Membership Subscription Suggestion

kryimssonkryimsson Member Posts: 17 Arc User
I have been playing this game for a short while and I have accumulated a decent amount of lockboxes. I would say close to 60 or so. I noticed the only way to open them is buying keys at 10$ for 10 keys. Or the exchange for ridiculous fees.

My suggestion is similar to what another MMO does.

DCUO also puts out lockboxes, albeit not as often as STO but what they offer for subscribing members is unlimited lockbox openings. I think if STO wanted to get people to subscribe I think this would be a huge selling point.

Anyone else? Thoughts?

Never will happen, The lockbox scam is their money maker.

Now as a Lifer, I'd really approve of that. Free keys forever? Hell ya.

To be a bit more realistic... Maybe a subscriber doff mission to open 1 box a day/week? Like how they have the NPC to refine a bit more Dil for subscribers. That would be more possible than free unlimited.

Or... Add a 5 pack of keys to the 500 Zen Stipend.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

This has been suggested before but, tbh, I don't think cryptic will gain much by you subscribing.

I wouldn't be surprised if they make more money by selling keys than they do via subscription fees.
    Well I can't forget a face but I won't remember y'all.

Gold members get a 500 Zen Stipend. They can use that to buy 4 Keys if the wish.

And STO doesn't want people to Subscribe. The only reason this game has a Gold model is because of all the LTS members who existed prior to going FTP. If STO never sold LTSes they would be a complete FTP game with no Gold option at all.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Yes they far supersede subscription sales with key sales by leaps and bounds easily.

To follow DCUO's lockbox method, Cryptic would have to make the lockboxes incredibly rare and bind on pickup. Also, all items within the lockbox would have to be bind on pickup as well so no more getting lockbox ships off of the exchange.

If they didn't do that, then the exchange would be completely ruined. I could just open thousands of lockboxes for free or open up my friends' lockboxes for them. There would be no point to lockbox keys anymore since to open up a lockbox for free would just require knowing an honest subscriber.

What Cryptic/PWE could also do is add a rare drop of a key and/or an ultra-rare drop of a pack of 5. This would help feed the frenzy to buy even more. They could also include it in a manner similar to the Hidden Lobi Scavenger Hunt except even more rare.

This might happen for one key pr day, or week... But unlimited... About as likely to happen as a Borg Cube grab-bag...

Oh look... a Borg cube grab-bag!
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.
