If they're going to complete the trilogy then they need to use NOMAD/V'ger.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
I think Karl Urban had the right idea when he said the third movie should be about exploration. We've had our Big Adventure against the Big Bad twice. Now we need to be Boldly Going Where No Man Has Gone Before.

That works in episodic TV. It doesn't work for movies when people expect lots of pew-pew and over-the-top action. For example, no one would want to watch an Avengers movie where they just walk around Central Park capturing muggers. The foes in movies need to be larger then life.

agreed.
that premise works great for TV serial drama....but not self contained 2 hour cinematic entertainment.

First, they can find plenty of villains while exploring. Up until now the villains have been Romulan and human. Let's meet a strange and nefarious new race.
Second, I honestly don't think you have to have a personified villain to have a good movie. The "villain" can be a situation the crew has to deal with or a quest the crew has to accomplish and be exciting. There's no one particular villain in Inception and that is plenty exciting. Of course you have to have the Avengers fight a big bad, its a comic book movie, but Star Trek is not the Avengers.
Maybe it could "The Enterprise encounters something at the edge of known space that puts an entire planet at risk. The crew must race against time to save the day" or something. Like a disaster movie (Twister, Dante's Peak, The Day After Tomorrow) only hopefully a lot less cheesy. Man vs. Nature is a time-honored type of fiction (or non-fiction for that matter).
I also don't think you have to have pew pew to make a good movie, but that's just my opinion, I don't expect a lot of people to share it.
I think the enterprise should crash on a planet that they know nothing about and have no communication with anyone .
They try to find away off the planet , but have great difficulty getting home, blah blah blah they all are apparently dead by the time the story finishes lol
"We're looking for Nuclear Wessles. Nuclear W-e-s-s-l-e-s"
"What does it mean, exact change?"
"Let me guess, they don't have money in the 23rd century"
"Captain! There be whales here!!"
I really don't want to see this one re-made, JJ will just make it a disaster.

On a side note though: seeing as its a "new" enterprise, in an "alternate" reality, they should just make their own plots up. Add more klingons or romulans this time around.
I am not a Mod. I am just a player. You have been informed

LOL.. make up "new stories" with "new plots"... geesh you don't get JJ-Trek at all do you? It's all about crapping on EXISTING stories and characters... JJ isn't creative he's just in an unfortunate position where people let him make movies for reasons few people understand...
Personally... I'm hoping the Department of Temporal Investigations makes an appearance and puts and end to this whole "alternate timeline" and then we can pretend it never happened
I'd love to see their take on the mirror universe. That would be stupid, but fun.
I think you just described all of the JJAbrams Star Trek movies to me. They're fun, but don't make any sense at all (and causes pain if you try thinking about the things that happen in them for more than a moment).
I would like to see Kang, koloth, kor, maybe even a young general chang make appearances.
Don't forget Gorkon. The implication was that he was another one of the mighty warriors before he became a politician. Just look at the cane he, um, acquired.
For the film, there needs to be a discovered archaeology clue that forms one point in a path leading to an ancient, apparently powerful macguffin. Maybe even something, at first, extremely desirable sounding. The Enterprise must race to uncover the galactic bread crumb trail while playing cat and mouse with the Klingons whose spies have uncovered what the Federation knows. Eventually it goes from cold war to hot, until Kirk realizes the macguffin can destroy all sides of the conflict. Then he risks all to show his opponents just what danger all are in, eventually winning grudging respect and a promise that on this one thing, all parties will cooperate either in destroying the macguffin or in keeping others from discovering and using the powerful artifact. Cue Federation men in black leather.
I nominate the Guardian of Forever for macguffin. Second choice would be the Planet Killer.
Not sure about villains, but am I the only one that hasn't been able to get this quote out of my head since this whole alternate timeline thing started?
You and I are of a kind. In a different reality, I could have called you friend.
... geesh you don't get JJ-Trek at all do you? It's all about crapping on EXISTING stories and characters... JJ isn't creative he's just in an unfortunate position where people let him make movies for reasons few people understand...
I thought they did great service in honoring the original cast. The actors did an awesome job in bringing the original Enterprise crew back to life, and the humorous mannerisms brought many a wonderful laugh.
oh ..... and JJ didnt write the movies, he just directed and produced.
Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman were the writers.
Perhaps you should go on a Orci and Kurtzman nerd-rage instead ???

Id just like to say good job to everyone who moaned and cried like a child in a store about JJ....now we got some hack director where his biggest thing was rise of the planet of the apes....way to go team!

good point!
I wonder though if a production team that are admittedly not Trek fans would pick up on the potential there. I also wonder if we'd recognize the character, since he is never named and since Mark Leonard is sadly not around to portray him.

Trust me, there's no way to remake this!! :::: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gr82dZpCr48
Yeah , only the Wales can communicate with a entity that's harming earth lol.
Tbh I really don't know where jj trek can go. As much as I like the action packed films, there just not as satisfying as watching traditional trek.
JJ might replace the whales with a dinarsour ,
Captain we have a T Rex.
Say again.
We have a T Rex.
Oh god lol
