To be honest there shouldn't be another doctor at all, the Timelords had 12 lives/regenerations, lets just count that shall we.
    1. William Hartnell
    2. Patrick Troughton
    3. John Pertwee
    4. Tom Baker
    5. Peter Davidson
    6. Colin Baker
    7. Sylvester McCoy
    8. Paul McGann
    9. Christopher Eccleston
    10. David Tennant
    11. David Tennant (how easy people forget that he regenerated after being shot by a Dalek in the street but transferred the physical change into his hand in a jar during the episodes 'The Stolen Earth / Journey's End')
    12. Matt Smith

Now this takes up all his lives/regenerations itself, not including spin-offs such as the one with Peter Cushing as the doctor, but now John Hurt is announced as the true 9th incarnation of the Doctor moving Christopher Eccleston and those after him 1 down meaning Matt Smith is actually the 13th Doctor. So unless they write into the 50th anniversary about how this was possible and the Doctor renewing his regenerations somehow there will be no more Doctor Who unfortunately, i'm quite upset actually as i've been a fan since William Hartnell started it all off.

Would you include Richard E Grant? He played the Doctor in a cartoon miniseries that if I remember right was shower on the Bbc website, about 2003.
Also I hear alot of people don't count Paul McGann as that movie wasn't a bbc production
, now I don't k ow the facts as to weather bbc were behind it, but it did suck for something doctor who lol

Ecclestone was pretty close. Matt smith had the personality of an amazing doctor but didn't get the scripts to back it up (Only a few real gems, and lots of yawn).

I'm hoping the next Doctor who is a face I don't recognise and a name I've never heard of, but more importantly, I hope Moffat starts delivering like he did with "The Empty Child" and "Blink" again. Hell, even "The Girl In The Fireplace" - I'd take more of that.

    David Bowie
I would dread to find out who his companion might be.

    Perhaps Jennifer Connelly?

there's a rumor that the next Doctor may be a woman. If so, I think the next Doctor should be played either by Terry Farrell or Nicole de Boer.
Something about them playing characters who look young but have the experience of Multiple Lifetimes just seems so Right

While they might be willing to buck tradition and go with a woman, I doubt they'd choose someone not from the UK too. That's too much for them to handle at once. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

It's Frobisher from Torchwood, surprising but not without precedent (Romana II, Colin Baker).

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

I think this casting was fated - I looked up Peter Capaldi on IMdB, and among his previous credits was a small role in World War Z - credited as "W.H.O. Doctor".

Didn't he play a Roman character in one of the episodes with Tennant as the Doctor?

I'm glad they picked someone older. Maybe now we can get away from the idea that every Doctor needs to have a love affair with his Companion. :)

Interesting. Is he still sporting the Fu Manchu mustache and chin strip? If so this will be the first doctor with facial hair, though I think it makes him look like Dr. Stephen Strange from marvel comics somehow instead.

First moments after regeneration, looking in a mirror: not a girl (whew!), still not ginger, and...(sees facial hair)... I'm the Master!

You are absolutely right. Peter Capaldi should dye his hair ginger!!!

And if he thought himself The Master, that might explain that whole 4th doctor thing (Tom Baker) where he got pwned by his younger self. After all the Doctor always wins.

So was he actually the Doctor pretending to be Lucius Caecilius or John Frobisher?
It's not that important but they could probably make an interesting story out of it.
