Someone good, decent and will fit the role well enough to make it his own

I think part of what makes Doctor Who work is the fact that the actors who play him are usually unknown actors before they get the role. It makes it easier for the audience to accept this person as the Doctor because they have no previous associations with the actor.
So I'm hoping for a good unknown actor.
On a side note... while I really like Matt Smith, this is the first time I've ever been ready for a Doctor to go. Normally, I dread losing the current Doctor, but for some reason... I'm kinda looking forward to a new Doctor this time. Maybe Smith has just run his course.
As Russell Tovey lost out to Matt Smith last time round I would like Russell to get the role. That said both Matt and Russell are young, so maybe a more mature actor should take up the role. There has been speculation though that there is a possibility that David Tennant will once again regenerate as The Doctor, but I take any truth in that with a pinch of salt.
The anniversary episode in November should be good though, with John Hurt, Matt and David as The Doctor.
I am so glad mart smith is leaving, I do not like him atall, what a rubbish replacement for tennant. I watched tennant and eccleston happily and now I drop in and out. Since smiths take over I haven't enjoied near as much,
The Thick Of It' star Peter Capaldi, who plays foul-mouthed spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in the show, is the latest to be linked to the soon-to-be vacant role of 'Doctor Who'. Bookies William Hill have reported a flurry of bets on Capaldi taking over from Matt Smith. Capaldi has already appeared on the show, in the episode 'The Fires of Pompeii'. [Digital Spy]
To be honest, I have a list of several actors I'd like to see in the role, Kriss Marshall, Stephen Mangan, Colin Salmon and Emma Watson, but if I had the ultimate choice of anyone, it would be Bowie. His performances in The Man Who Fell to Earth and The Elephant Man were amazing, he could easily play the Doctor, and I would imagine something like a cross between the 8th and 10th incarnations

Likewise, I don't even watch it anymore. I stopped watching after Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, and only watched the last episode because it was the last one in the series I got sick of the Pond's relationship, hated the retconning of River Song, and to be honest, never liked Matt Smith in the role.
Colin Morgan has great potential, but his youth might play against him this time 'round.
I wonder if Moffet would consider either of his actors from the Sherlock series? At three TV movies a series, they wouldn't be tied down. Either would make an incredible Doctor, though I think Martin Freeman would be superb, and is just the right age look for the next Doctor in my opinion. That he'll be wildly popular due to Sherlock and The Hobbit is a plus.

For older choices: Anthony Head, Colin Salmon
Didn't I see something being announced at Comicon about John Hurt?

And he played a brilliant role in Torchwood: Children of Earth, if you haven't seen that yet, it's the best series of Torchwood
I have been confused since I heard that Hurt is actually a past Doctor not a future one. So is the 9th Doctor going to be called 10th now, ... or will Hurt play Doctor 8.5?

Nobody gets in until the Federation decides to make bigger doors.

I have no idea, it's going to be interesting finding out
Hell yes. However who is this 'Doctor Who'? I was under the impression Matt Smith was playing a character called 'The Doctor'.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

To be honest there shouldn't be another doctor at all, the Timelords had 12 lives/regenerations, lets just count that shall we.
1. William Hartnell
2. Patrick Troughton
3. John Pertwee
4. Tom Baker
5. Peter Davidson
6. Colin Baker
7. Sylvester McCoy
8. Paul McGann
9. Christopher Eccleston
10. David Tennant
11. David Tennant (how easy people forget that he regenerated after being shot by a Dalek in the street but transferred the physical change into his hand in a jar during the episodes 'The Stolen Earth / Journey's End')
12. Matt Smith
Now this takes up all his lives/regenerations itself, not including spin-offs such as the one with Peter Cushing as the doctor, but now John Hurt is announced as the true 9th incarnation of the Doctor moving Christopher Eccleston and those after him 1 down meaning Matt Smith is actually the 13th Doctor. So unless they write into the 50th anniversary about how this was possible and the Doctor renewing his regenerations somehow there will be no more Doctor Who unfortunately, i'm quite upset actually as i've been a fan since William Hartnell started it all off.
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

Ah I thought it was 14 lives, but now you say 12 that sounds more correct lol,
My friend has this idea , whereas all the doctors previous regens combine and start a new life cycle from 1 again lol. Would be interesting if they do that, means the show can go on.

NO The Doctor originally could only regenerate 13 times. However Russell T Davies did away with that with Christopher Ecclestones Doctor. By saying That The TimeLords regenerate as a way of cheating death. Therefore Russell T Davies paved the way for many more regenerations.

If John Hurt is a future Doctor, then how would Matt Smith's Doctor know about him?
Because people assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff.
And the limitation to the regenerations is easy to retcon, since "The End of Time" - the Doctor is the only Time Lord remaining in his universe (the others are either locked away in the Time Vault, or in one case running around in E-space), so he might well have all the energy of their potential reincarnations available to him.

I don't like to correct as a rule, but I have to point out it's a Time Lock. Also, if you're counting Novels and Big Finish audio's as canon (which I do) then Romana came back from E-Space and took up the presidency of the Time Lords, presumably to be deposed by Rassilon when he took over

He's not a future Doctor, but a past one. He's the same Time Lord as the Doctor and the incarnation that ended the Time War. What he did to end that war was so horrific he forfeited the 'right' to call himself The Doctor, as we was NOT living up to that name. Instead he's kind of The Incarnation That Won't Be Named, existing between Doctor 8 and Doctor 9. (as near as I can tell anyways)

He plays a past Doctor, not sure from when, but I suspect he was the one that ended the Time War

No he is a future Doctor not a past Doctor. From where in the future that is yet to be discovered.
