A zoo for pets :)

What do you guys think about having a zoo for our pets?

What I'm thinking of:
- special featured construction project to add a garden/zoo to the embassy
- you could even make several projects out of it for different environmental zones. E.g aviary for the birds, some other for the Khellids etc.
- could also be called research station/garden/zoo whatever. This could even add some daily research missions
- Animals in zoo are only provided by players in the fleet and by means of depositing them in a special (large!) zoo bank (can be taken out of again)
- having a pet of each could provide a little accolade or a small unique reward pet (meaning if you yourself have one of each. Not the entire fleet. / could also be the fleet though. Would add some social interaction)

I think this would make a really nice and pretty addition to the game. At the same time it would free up inventory space. I know that there are a couple of pet collectors out there but if you want to have one of all you're running out of space.

Alternatives:
- individual zoo for each player
- different zoos on different planets for different types of species
- an actual fleet holding instead of featured project (I think that would be a little much for most but I'd love it personally)

In case this is not an option I'd suggest the establishment of a pet bank with one slot for each unique pet that can be obtained in the game. Purchasable through the C-Store for 500-1000 zen. I'd buy it (after I'm done boycotting for improvable customer service that is of course ;) ) If I had the choice though I'd prefer the zoo. This is more about a cool addition to the game than just about solving inventory issues.

Further ideas from the thread:
- A room inside the ship for the pets. Including a pet terminal/bank that adds or removes pets from the room
- A tribble terrarium (love that one :) )
- If one just wanted to deal with the inventory overflow pets could be added to a power bar to summon the pet without any inventory space used (as in SWTOR)
- stuff them all and hang them on the walls aka a trophy wall for pets (Klingon side)

I will continue to update this post with ideas posted below.

    How about add a room to my ship where i can put my pets? outside the door is a terminal that opens a pet bank, add or remove the pets and they get added or removed from the room. enter the room and you can watch the pets do whatever it is they do.

    I'm not so sure.

    Can we get an expansion that gives us Dinosaurs and Orca Whales?

    SWTOR has a good method for dealing with pets. Basically, clicking on a pet item removes the item from the inventory and adds a summon power to the power list. Can carry as many pets as you want and no inventory wasted on pets.

    We also need a Tribble Terrarium to store all the Tribbles we get.

    LOL! I was just gunna say this.

    I support this idea about having something like a zoo for our pets.

    But, for the longest time STO players been asking for a Tribble Terrarium, witch i strongly support.

    After all, Having Tribbles in STO the way it is, it is considered a mini game.
    So why not have something to show our Tribbles off and have a place to store them, instead of taking up space in our inventory and bank slots.

    And if there ever was a Tribble Terrarium integrated in-game, I would really like to see it as an individual player project, like either our fleet dil mines or rep projects, having to complete projects and finish upgrades to have our Tribble Terrarium look unique for every player in STO.

    Hello,

    I am have been playing since beta and have accumulated a large number of these items that are taking up space. I know this a has been brought up before, but it needs to be revisited.

    The needs to be a change way vanity items are stored. They need to become a captain power.

    Example once a pet is obtained you can either "use" it normally (so if not bound or needed for trading, missions, or crafting) or you can "add" it and it will come like a captain power. As a power it will take up no room in storage but it cannot be used for missions (horta crafting, epohh or bird raising)

    To keep the vanity items from cluttering up the set power window, non-combat powers and abilities will have their own tab.

    Besides pets and vanity items Transwarps and T4 Diplo/Maurad skills will also be there.

    Here is a list of things that should be come what I call NCP (non-combat powers)
    * Non-combat shuttles/fighter pets (Danube, Phoenix, Captain's Yacht, etc...)
    * Gekli Companion
    * Fireworks
    * Non-combat exocomps
    * Non-combat Horta (Hatchling, Dilithium) [once they become powers, you can not use them in crafting you will need to grab another]
    * Small animals (Targ, Alfa 117 Canine, Driclae Pup, Jackal Mastiff, Sehlat, etc)
    * Personal comm codes (Suliban, Azura, Vov'wI)
    * Captain only Tribbles (Radan, Fleet, Mol'Rihan, Nukara)
    * Vanity entourages
    * Raise-able pets (Tropical Birds, Epohh) [once they become powers, you can not use them in crafting or turn in]
    * Holiday items (Flight Packs, Party Poppers, Ice Boots, etc.)
    * Data Recorder

    Things that should not be stored this way
    * Consumable combat pets (Reprogrammed Drones, Romulan Distress Call, Scorpion Fighters, Turrets, etc)
    * Combat Horta (Horta, Polytrinic, Eisilum)
    * Anything that goes into a hangar
    * Ship devices
    * Any other tribble
    * Anything consumable
    * Mission items

    Now, I know what you are thinking, how will Cryptic/PW make money if all this space is freed up? My answer is people will but more pets and shuttles from the store using Lobi and Zen.

    Omg yes. Anything to get the little buggers out of my inventory. And my bank. And my BOffs. And my alts inventory. And my alts banks. And my alts BOffs.

    Many of us have been saying it for years now, but we also really, really need a pet inventory tab ala CO. It works so well and I have no idea why they won't bring it over here. Give me a CO style pets tab with a zoo/terrarium and I'll be a happy captain.

    But fish tanks are one of the keys to having a ready room as awesome as Picard's.

    Thanks for all the suggestions! I added them to the first post! :)

    As for inventory space, I view that more as a nice, yet very important, side effect. Personally I'd just love to have a space where I could watch all the animals at once in a nice surrounding. Or simply put: A zoo :)

    the Klingon way I like it . mount them on trophy slots in ready room or mess hall. set the races apart some. Klingon gets them dead and stuffed, rommies put them in the terrarium in ready room alive. and feds who cares about them they suck .

    So going to kill the targ pet for a trophy rather than let it loose to wander the ship and bite anyone who is not doing their job?

    I'm entirely in favour of this idea... I recall the "Terrarium" from Kingdom of Loathing, where you stored all your pets except for one active one you carted round with you. Having an actual physical location where you could visit the pets would be great.

    (I mean... there's a hard upper limit on your inventory space... and new pets keep coming out... and you need inventory slots for, like, stuff you actually use... so, sooner or later, you're going to look at exciting new pets and think "nope, don't have room for that". As things stand.)

    If it's just another vanity pet that has no benefit, then it's useless and goes to the wall. Besides Disruptor pistols make quick work of lazy and/or incompetent crew members.

    Seriously...right-click > discard > ok...inventory space created.

    really what purpose do they serve besides "oh look what I have" when people generally don't care?

    Tribbles and other pets have their uses besides vanity. If you raise some of the pets, you can turn them in for marks. Most of the test tribbles give a small bonus to some abilities, which makes them at least slightly useful (I carry around a IDIC tribble, which gives a notable bonus when combined with the other two career path IDIC tribbles). If nothing else, you can farm tribbles to make tribble carcases for dilithium. People are reluctant to get rid of pets because you never know when Cryptic will rework something that will make that biothermal dampener (or tribble, or targ) useful instead of useless.

    I support tacking a vivarium onto the starbase or embassy. Let us put in tribbles, epohhs, targs, sehlats, whatever critters we might have (although you can put pets in and take them out, they don't breed or get eaten!) Add an extra tab for space pets, and one of a kind gear. Make it a special project if you must; at least it will be a special project that ends up being useful!
    "Susse-thrai" had been the name bestowed upon her, half in anger, half in affection, by her old crew on Bloodwing; the keen-nosed, cranky, wily old she-beast, never less dangerous than when you thought her defenseless, and always growing new teeth far back in her throat to replace the old ones broken in biting out the last foe's heart.
    Romulans: left one homeworld, lost another, third time's the charm?
