I am sure a silly questions, but with the current ship sale was eyeballing getting maybe a DPS escort to try on my Engineer. I see the Sao Paulo Refit, but I do not have the "Defiant" ship in my inventory...

Can I buy this pack and get the ship, or do I need to buy the in-game "Captain" level tac ship 1st?

Most Kind.

You don't have to buy the Captain level one first, however, I would not advise getting the Sao Paulo refit, as it's still a Captain level (T4) ship, and you'll spend most of your time using the T5 ships.

    It's a T4 not a T3 that comes with the Quads.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001.

The Sao Paulo is a T4/Captain ship itself is not really good for endgame. However, the skin and weapons can be used on the T5 Defiant.

If you have gone LTS recently and gotten the all the vet rewards, your should have gotten the 600-day Vet ship token for a Tier5 Tactical Escort Retrofit (T5 Defiant), Galaxy Retrofit or the Intrepid Retrofit.

With the purchase of the Sao Paulo and the T5 Defiant, you can customize the T5 Defiant look to be the Sao Paulo, add the Sao Paulo weapons (that auto level with your character) and you will have a T5 Sao Paulo with Quad-cannons that will be good for endgame.

How do you know if you have the 600-day token? I believe that if you go to ESD ship dock, go to the person that you purchase ships from, select the T5 defiant and the price should mention that you have 1 vet ship token.

This may be outdated, but STOwiki.org (http://sto.gamepedia.com/Phaser_Quad_Cannons) mentions that you can only equip ONE quad-cannon per ship.

    Hope this helps.

EDIT: Captain/Sao Paulo is T4 not T3. Corrected above.

Captain is T4. Commander is T3.

    Progression goes like so:

    T1 - Ensign/Lt - Miranda
    T2 - Lt. Commander - Connnie/Saber/Nova
    T3 - Commander - Cheyenne/Akira/Olympic
    T4 - Captain - Galaxy/Defiant/Intrepid
    T5 - Ra/Va - Every bloody thing

's all good. It's basically a mandatory mistake you get to make as an STO player.

Get the Thunderchild for the Point defense turret... it's a must on all my builds and has served me big time.

However, its a T4 ship (or was it T3), so along with that, you should get the Defiant Retrofit, wich will allow you to get the Fleet Defiant for 1 fleet module...
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

The first few months of my career in Starfleet were tough and I tend to block them out, especially the part of having to clean the warp cores... from the inside... :D
