I really want to try to Diversify the feel of weapons, I feel a good way of this is the procs.
I am looking at strength and weakness, much like the shielding system revisions i put foward, where each weapon can excel at a specific objective.
Phaser:
- 10% Power per weapon shot.
Disruptor
Deals an additional 3.5% Damage per point of damage to hull, But 3.5% less to shielding.
Plasma
Burns the hull for X amount of damage over X duration. Ignores shielding
Tetryon
Deals an additional 1% Damage to shields, but 1% less to hull. stacks up to 3 times.
Polaron
Debuffs the target shields, increasing bleed effect by 1%. Stacks up to 3 times, lasts 6 seconds.
Anti-Proton
Reduces healing to shields by 1% for 6 seconds. Stacks up to three times

Phaser:
2.5% Chance to shut down a random subsystem per shot.

So phasers haven't changed.
Disruptor has a 2.5% chance to strip hull resistance already (shields need to be down)
Plasma hasn't really changed
Tetryon strips shield resistance already (shield only).
Polaron leaches power from subsystems.
Antiproton has the higher innate crit hit so they are good for a crit build at killing shields quickly (as are tetryon).
A good team will already use differing weapons for the varying procs that could be chained for good effect.
That's what weapons training does, building up critical chance and sev percentage etc.
For example, polaron with high weapon skill combined with the same skills used for energy siphon is brutal, it just sucks power out of you.
Tetryon with high weapons training (and specialisation) does a hellish job of stripping shields.
Disruptor is really really effective at eating hull.
Thing is, part of the problem is things die so fast, its really hard to tell.
But i think if the survival rate was above 10 seconds, it's still need to be buffed
to be recognizable.
just last night a funny statement was made
"pick the color you want and shoot"
and sadly, thats how weapons are.
i'd love to see weapons have a special way of damaging, and an armor to counter it.
Example
Damage type :Quad Damage to shielding Countered by
Tetryon plating :0.65 of ever 1 point of damage Damage done to hull, is converted back into shielding.
There already is on both counts. Each weapon has its own proc and effect.
There are shields designed to defend against certain weapon types and there are armour consoles already.
I think you took the comment too literal.
I use disruptor because of its alpha capability once you are through shields. Other ships may use tetryon to make my life easier at getting through shields.

How about somebody running Phased Tet Arrays/Banks (w/ Nukara console for the +10% Acc) and the partner running Fleet Elite Disruptors, Romulan Plasma, Nanite Disruptors, etc, etc, etc...?
D/P Polarons and Polarized Disruptors as part of a Leech Tandem?

Ugh, I need more caffeine...
See I played with leech and standard polaron a few nights ago.
I removed that set because I could sense the calls of "HAX" coming my way.
However, a heavy drain shielded ship is far less susceptible to the effects.

I tend not to remember too many of my deaths in the game - they're not really memorable usually (outside of some of the epic ways I've managed to kill myself - I really love that Mega Torp, so much epic fun to be had with that compared to blowing myself up with a THY Omega)...
...but, the fastest I can remember being killed on my Fed Eng in his Chel Grett was against a Krenn/Korath Tac/Sci tandem using D/P Tets and Elite Disruptors with Leech and Tet Glider.
Drain resistance applies to each effect individually - doesn't provide any sort of limiter to the total amount that can take place at a certain time. So where they may not be much of a return on a couple or even a few things...you spam enough - fast enough...
I had shields, I had no shields. I had hull, I had no hull. I was flying around going whee, I was not flying around going whee. It was pretty awesome...lol.
No that I dislike or like the changes, but you do realize the embassy consoles plasma DoT stopped working a long time ago and I'm not entirely sure the reputation weapon's bonuses are working either.
...
Sure you want to start changing how the weapon's secondary affects work?

I am trying to increase the degree of specialization of the weapon,
so they are more unique.
buff up the secondary to have more of a noticable effect.
So people say "Oh TRIBBLE#@ tetryon, my shields are gona get it"

ResA - Phaser, Polaron, Tetryon
ResB - Antiproton, Disruptor, Plasma
...creates some interesting tandems.
