Hardware for PVP, what would you recommend?

I'm already in the market for a new Keyboard. Space bar is deteriorating so I need a replacement. (Lol) And started to wonder, for Space PVP, what would you or are you going with as a Keyboard, Mouse, or other hardware?

I thought about this for a moment and the most important item in my entire arsenal is notepad so I can edit all of my keybinds.
Seriously though, I've been using the merc stealth for...a long time.
The software is garbage. It works, but I have issues sometimes on Win7 64 bit.
The keys are OK, but they aren't anything amazing either.
Using it as an actual keyboard, it's a little bit cramped.
On the other hand:
Being able to reprogram keys is great, especially in STO where every few updates one of my keys no longer functions like it used to and I have to change that.
The real reason I use it, is because of the WASD pad. It's REALLY comfortable.
I've been using it so long, I doubt I could actually play properly without that particular physical arrangement of keys.
It also has a really unique NUMPAD layout that I personally feel is great for gaming (take a look at those little arrow keys, that's where I bound my powerset presets).
There are probably a lot of better keyboards out there from a technical standpoint, but this is the one I use.
As for mouse, honestly I just need something responsive and fast. I own a handful of mice.
If you can manage tiny buttons on the side of a mouse (I can't), you might want to look at the razer naga epic or the logitech G600 gaming mouse.
Unfortunately this game is so inefficient and doesn't properly utilize your hardware your FPS will drop considerably to 45 or even 30 if you want to retain some of the eyecandy. So in that case a pretty High-end CPU/GPU is needed, but CPU alot more tho)
But to each his own, some ppl rock with 10fps i guess.

There's no tab on the J key, so I tend to fatfinger things on the right side of the keyboard.
The following keys are half-worn: EAFGCVM,
The following keys are completely worn: SDLBN.
Funny, they always went with RSTLNE on Wheel of Fortune...RT are fine, E is visible, while SLN are toast...
This is the first keyboard I've had in forever (cheap replacement for a too expensive keyboard previously) where the lettering faded before a key broke or went unresponsive.
I tend to avoid gaming/multibutton mice because of the size of my hands - what's great for typing really sucks for trying to hit those clustered little buttons. (If I lay my thumb flat against the bottom ridge of the keyboard, my middle finger is still sticking out past the top...the mouse (standard sized) is not even half the length from my fingertips to wrist.)
Still, every now and again I head over to Newegg and look at some of the mechanical gaming keyboards and those over9000 button mice, lol...
edit: Yeah, like the mouse that Drunk posted...there's no chance I could hit those buttons. It's 5.1" x 3.3"...about 0.75" longer and wider that my wee M100, so it would be a better fit...but the buttons, meh.

They are like super generic, but the upside is that the fancy media buttons are actually assignable in STO keybinds, and the mice have 6 buttons.
The keyboards tend to last about 6 months under heavy use and the mice...actually, I haven't had to replace a mouse in over a year.
Even had I paid retail price ($20 for each KB/mouse set) a 6 month lifespan isn't bad - my Razer deathadder cost me damn near a hundred bucks and barely lasted 18 months. Same with my last Saitek and Logitech keyboards - both near a hundred bucks and both maxed out at 18 months of life, with the Saitek having the most staying power until it developed a short in the backlighting and blew out my mobo's USB header.
As a PC gamer for more than 30 years, the first ten years of which we were all basically stuck with keyboards designed with WordPerfect in mind, and having used several of the top end "gaming" products, I have come to the conclusion that in terms of dollars spent, it's more efficient to use off the shelf standard stuff for everything other than competitive gaming. However, your mileage may vary, and I do know I could probably do better in PvP with some more macro availability.
For me, it's just not worth the cost. Ultimately its totally up to you. Don't expect even the most expensive of gaming hardware to play the game for you, but don't hamstring yourself if you really feel you need better gear to take it to the next level.

What we REALLY need is a keyboard that is ACTUALLY designed for games such as Star Trek Online.
Here are a few ideas that someone else 3 years earlier suggested.
A finger slider for speed.
Buttons to:
allocate shield strength
adjust power settings for speed, shields, weapons, etc
targeting
firing of phasers, torpedos or both
Spring-loaded multi-directional finger or mini-joystick rollers for direction and camera angle.
We need a someone do for gamer?s keyboards what Macintosh and Windows did for computers.
I am old enough recall the Draconian Stone age of DOS when you had to type HUGE amounts of characters just to do the simplest thing.

my spacebar broke about a year and half ago. one of the springs came out i think, i have to really hit it now for it to work....

I love me some mechanical keyboards. I have a black widow with cherry blues. Good if you like the clickity clack. They also feel great for typing. The only problem is I can't type worth a TRIBBLE on membrane boards at work now since they have to be pounded to work.
Looks like the Once And Forever Design with no progression or stream lining in sight.. :rolleyes:
