Piercing Plasma Rifle does not stop firing in autofire mode

Sometimes when using the piercing plasma rifle it will not stop firing after the enemy is killed. I have autofire turned on, this does not happen with other weapon types, only the piercing plasma rifle.

    ground weapons should not be effected by autofire. Autofire is for space weapons

    You would be incorrect, ground weapons can be set to auto fire when in non-FPS mode.
