Light Cruiser Refit - Merian Class

Seeing as Cryptic has gotten the rights to use Mark Rademaker's starship designs in Star Trek Online, his Merian class would make for an excellent refit, or even retrofit of the Miranda.

Hopefully they are still planning to incorporate more of his designs into the game than his Vesta and variants. I certainly would love to see more, like the Merian and Spirit classes.

I believe that They only obtained permission to use the Vesta Class ships.

Unless I'm mistaken, They would have to renegotiate for anything else.

Actually, according to Mark Rademaker's website, they obtained permission to use his designs in general. The problem is instead with Cryptic deciding whether or not to use his designs, at this point. If you need a quote, I can get it.

I have a quote about the matter:

    In other news:

CBS in the shape of John van Citters gave me green light to get my starships in Star Trek Online.

I'm preparing a list of questions and tech specs that I need to sent to Cryptic, see how and if we can shape this. To be continued. :)

It can be found here: [link]

It should be more than possible to get his other ships in the game now, with the only obstacle being the decision to use them as well as the time and effort necessary to make them.

I would LOVE to see the Merian class in STO. It's one of my all-time favourite designs!

As the Merian is basically a re-skinned Miranda - it is essentially a Miranda-type with a pointy Saucer - I have a feeling we will not see it as a T5 or T6 ship. Bringing the Merian into the fold would just up the demand for T5/6 Miranda-types - and that would just up the screaming for an end-game Connie.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

I would love to see the Merian replace the ShiKahr.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

I would not mind seeing that ship design as part of a ship skin pack for the Miranda along with the Saratoga side mounted pods, the Soyuz parts, the Anton TOS parts, and the Lantree no rollbar option. After buying this pack, the much maligned Light Cruiser would have as many as 8 design options.
