im not a spambot either, and is the forum software accurate? It says *you last visited 12/31/1969 i guess i havent been here in a verrry long time lol.
No you aren't a spambot. That does is a very special date. It's know as the Epoch. The beginning of time. 00:00:00 Jan 1, 1970.
It's used on a time format called Epoch Time in which date/time is measured as a number of seconds since the Epoch. It simplifies time calculations immensely since it's just a number. Don't have to agonize over leap seconds or leap years oare any of that stuff. It's all taken care of in the time conversion routines.
As this is your first visit to the new forums, it considers you new Your join date shows June 2013. The "can't start a new thread until after a specified amount of time" is in place to stop spam bots -- it's a pretty short wait, and since we've put it in place, there has been virtually no spam. We're happy to remove this for you as you're clearly not a spam bot (and I just have -- log out and back in. I also made sure everyone else in this thread can make threads). Anyone else that's in this same boat who reads this message at a later date can send me a forum PM and I can manually remove the restriction.
Thanks for understanding!
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=
I'm glad you posted this I had a very frustrating first week with the game, couldn't understand most of what was happening, full of questions yet unable to find threads that were discussing the subjects I was having problems with and of course unable to start my own threads.
I was so incredibly relieved once my posting restrictions relaxed, maybe you should have a sticky at the top of The Academy board offering new members the option of contacting a moderator to be "switched on" -spam bots wouldn't be able to do that
I am a fully new player to STO and I must say the new player experience in game and in the forums is really bad.
The UI is a mess imo with little help helping u work out where things are , what they are, how they are used etc etc. No ingame chat, no new thread creation in the forums. So u cant even ask !.
its pathetic. Honestly im not sure im gunna put money into this game. if it were just the new player experience, that I can overcome. but the performance of the game is terrible, and im running a 780 Classified and a 3930k based rig >.<
Anyway I couldn't create a topic in the tech support forum about the performance issues, nor could I ask for info about certain new player aspects, so im just replying here to vent and hopefully get a moderators attention to remove my restrictions -.-
They will not remove the forum posting or chat restrictions. You either buy Zen or you must wait the 2 weeks. Since the game is FTP the measure is taken to try and keep people from making multiple accounts and spamming or trolling someone due to whatever nerd rage situation has befallen them.
The game is always laggy around a new Season because everyone comes out of the woodwork - and this is especially true on weekends.
If you have specific questions about the game feel free to ask them here or in any active - IE, not more then 30 days old - thread about the subject. Someone will answer you.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
is this why people post in threads long since buried and then necro them? as a former mod myself from another game its extremely annoying seeing new players resurrecting a dead thread.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

Yeah, new players cannot post new threads so they try to find an older topic about their issue, not realizing the forum has a 30-day rule. Of course I think the 30-day rule should be 60.

9 outta 10 of those necros are from years ago, I don't think a 60 day rule would matter.
I simply meant that closing a thread at 30 days seems too quick. Most of us can remember back 30 days to continue a conversation. Plus there are a lot of conversations which keep coming up, like a T5 Connie thread, that the 30 day rule just seems too quick to me.

Im not talking about lag. My game latency is fine, im talking about FPS. The number of people online has no bearing on that.
So far as iv determined from searching around, Season 9, or maybe even the introduction of season 8.5 introduced massive performance issues.
However I cant be certain as iv only just joined the game. All im seeing thus far is a badly optimised MMO. Whilst it also being, imo, unpolished with small but irritating bugs, like tabbing out causing the game to go into windowed mode and forcing u to have to go to the options and set it to full screen every time.
The game has been out in release version for a good long while now and the micro transactions are way into the P2W category, with loads of stuff for sale, so I honestly cant think of a reason why the developers havnt polished this game up by now as they cant be lacking in money.
I'm a new player, and this has been a problem for me. At least let us post in The Academy! I have to hunt all over the internet to find answers to some pretty basic stuff, would VERY MUCH like to hear from and get to know others playing this game, instead of finding outdated replies or answers that don't quite match my questions.
Anyway, I've got an issue with the personal stealth field I have on Ground Missions. Don't recall where I got it from, maybe a Kit? Anyway, what is the best way to be using this? When I turn it on and try to sneak around to flank people, my Away Team members all come running with me, we all get seen and get shot up. Any advice would be appreciated!
It's all a little confusing still, but I'm loving this game!
I'm not sure if this has been brought up and answered, but here goes... Why is there not a player matchup forum or even a topic players can post in to find other players to play with?
Yeah, I can't seem to create new threads either, which is a pain because I've been playing for about a month now with an account here...it seems silly that I have to wait longer to post.
This is driving me crazy too. I've had this account for almost a year, if not more, and I can't make a new thread. I noticed some continuity errors I want to point out but I can't figure out where to post it!! GRR!!!
I guess I'll just write it down and SOMEONE will see it.
1) In Hassan's fight club, the scorpions are introduced as being from Dewa 3, but isn't Dewa 3 New Romulus? I never saw any scorpions there, either when I was exploring the planet for the first time or after level 50 when I got to explore the colony and stuff. There's nothing even remotely like a desert scorpion.
2) Tovan and Rinna:
a) in Romulan culture, last names are the house names and have a prefix. So technically their names should be Tovan tr'Khev and Rinna t'Khev. Just wondering why it isn't.
b) When you find Rinna in Installation 18 (Playing as a Romulan) You talk to her and say "Rinna, don't you remember me?" And she says "Oh yes, you're *name*, Tovan's friend? is he here?" blah blah. But in the beginning, the tutorial I think, Tovan says "I have a favour to ask. I have a sister, her name is Rinna, I want to try to find her." Giving the impression that this is the first your character has ever heard of her.
Does he say it that way like it's the first time only because it's the first time the player is hearing about her, but the player's character already met her? That doesn't make sense. Yet there is clearly recognition when you find Rinna on Nimbus.

I see this is your first post in the forum, so you're new to the forum system. You have to post a few times to prove you're not a spam bot. Or perhaps Smirk will see this and be kind enough to override it for you like BranFlakes did for some of the previous people.

They're on New Romulus somewhere. Their name if you target them is something like "Dewan Arthropod". I don't remember exactly where they are, it's been so long since I spent time on New Romulus, but they were definitely there before the Nimbus zone was introduced.
2) Tovan and Rinna:
a) in Romulan culture, last names are the house names and have a prefix. So technically their names should be Tovan tr'Khev and Rinna t'Khev. Just wondering why it isn't.
I assume that's from Diane Duane's Rihannsu books, or some other licensed work? The only thing that's canon for STO is the TV shows, live action movies, and STO itself. STO's writers pick and choose things from other licensed sources (like the Vesta, or the word Rihan), but anything not specifically mentioned in STO is apocryphal. Like with all Star Trek licensed fiction, you can accept it in your personal head canon if you want, with the understanding that it loses any continuity conflicts. Besides, I doubt you could convince every player in the game to obey that naming convention.
b) When you find Rinna in Installation 18 (Playing as a Romulan) You talk to her and say "Rinna, don't you remember me?" And she says "Oh yes, you're *name*, Tovan's friend? is he here?" blah blah. You might have them on that one. Though I always found it odd that if Tovan is your good friend, he wouldn't have mentioned his sister earlier. They probably just need to tweak that line in the tutorial.
i'm going to have to go find them on New Romulus now... thanks for answering that for me. romulans are my favourite humanoid species so I notice that kind of stuff. Plus when youre in the Sherlock fandom too you pretty much notice everything.
The first i heard of the prefix was in the Rihannsu books, yes. Its a pity those arent considered canon. Oh well. But really, if they're going to call the new homeworld Mol'Rihan then really.... eh, it doesnt bother me that much. Tovan tr'Khev doesn't have the same ring to it anyway.
Hhmmm.... no I haven't done that. I will do that right now. I remember doing a mission with my Fed that started out on New Romulus and involved the Iconian gate but I haven't gotten that far with my Romulan yet. High time I finished my older characters instead of creating tons of new ones.
Sorry, that was off-topic. What I was trying to say is that hopefully soon I'll get my Romulan back on New Romulus where she belongs and then I can find those arthropods.
Ignore this Still downloading the game, but while reading this forum thread it appears that if I don't post something to the forum until I need help, I can't start my own threads. If that is the case, I am posting now. If not, oh well, I at least get to see if my forum account works

So yeah I just submitted a request for clarification to STO Online and was emailed with. We do not concern ourselves with these types of questions unless there is a glitch in the game. Please use "THIS" forum as a resource to answer any questions you may have. (So Polite ^_^)
...aaaaaaaaand I can't post here. You know someone is laughing about that at technical support!
Anyway aside from the minor irritant of not being able to start a new thread and ask a question that could help a lot of new players I will take a stab in the dark and see if anyone will help me out here.
I have a Romulan Valdor. I will only ever play "This" ship in this game (Favorite Ship). I am a level 29 Commander and I want to expand the number of (Ship Loadout slots) from the base-line model out to the 32 slots that all the online documentation say is available so I went to the C-store bought 10 ship loadout slots and have NO IDEA HOW TO APPLY THEM!!!
So the question is: How does one Apply additional Ship Loadout Slots? Easy right?
Any help would be amazing and will return to you seven fold in this life, promise! ^_^
How did you ever manage to pick the one thread that tells you exactly what NOT TO DO in the forums to ask your question...
Oh the Irony!
If you have actually purchased the ship slots, go to Earth Space Dock and stand in front of the "Select Your Ship" NPC.
(you'll be looking toward the BIG Window at the ships in the space dock and at the right side of the group of consoles)
When you open the window it should tell you near the bottom of the left side of the screen (starship list) how many slots you have.
Remaining Slots: x

LOL, blind rage at reasonable but still annoying red-tape will do that to you. But the thought process was sound.
1. Can't do a thing in Game.
2. Contact game support.
3. Told to ask fans in online forum there to support fans.
4. Locked out of forum as a new guy for SPAM concerns.
5. Google reasons one can't access forum.
6. Find thread that sounds vaguely informative about the lock out.
7. Agree with sentiment then scan responses and see that someone else was resourceful enough to fire off a quick question and get a response so they can continue their game.
8. Repeat number 7.
9. You responded with the answer (and you rock by the way) thank you I will give that a shot!

Edit: Never mind the first question. The warning seems to have gone away now. For some strange reason.
I'll ask my other questions in a new thread.

I prefer an old thread with the same topic instead of creating new same topic threads all the time.
We already have about 7 Odyssey/Bortas Uniform threads created within 3 days. Not to speak of all the T5 Idontsayit threads.

I just started last night, and am wondering where I can find one of the Steamrunner class ships? I don't see them as available for purchase.
Thanks in advance for enlightening a n00b.
Wrong thread to post in. :P
Also, this is a necrothread, but Cryptic is likely to ignore it for some reason.
U could have ansered his question. Its from the steam store u cant get it any other way or i would have one steam rip me off before never again
