WRONG. The MOT is about whether the car is roadworthy or not - they can still pass a car if, for example, the tyres are marginally within the legal limit. If said tyres require replacing a few days later, that's not the garage's fault or problem. If something else that they checked, and was operable, fails a few days later it is, again, not their fault. If all was well at the time of the test, THAT's all that matters to them.

While I wouldn't necessarily be surprised if cryptic is running its shop out of the back of a moving truck, what does this have to do with the daily down time?

I also am getting sick of the daily downtime for several hours and yet still no fix to things like not being able to delete mail.

Why doesn't anyone realize that Cryptic/PWE doesn't care.

They are making PLENTY of money between all the other games they own. Believe me STO is small time compared to others.

They will just run this game in the ground and make as much money as they possibly can from everyone. They will run the game just enough to gain as much revenue before everyone quits. The LoR launch was a complete and utter joke and disaster. We are still having bugs that WERE ON Tribble, and why on earth they didn't fix before it went live, (oh yeah it reminds me of beta when there were hundreds of bugs and Cryptic didn't delay the game to fix them.)

I came back to this game thinking this company changed and things changed. I was completely and utterly wrong. Old bugs from CLOSED BETA are still in this game.

    Pathetic.
The Grim Reaper is poking around the servers again, so they have to distract him with shiny things.

    AKA, daily patches.

I am also sick of people making stupid jokes about the downtime "Oh the Enterprise is in spacedock" , "the ship has a plasma leak." etc etc.

Stop making the problem less then it is. It's major.

At launch Cryptic had nio choice but to launch - Atari (the then publisher & owner of cryptic) + CBS had set a had deadline, had they missed it, there would have been no STO!

What is 'Major' to you, is not to others.

Its not exactly a life threatening disease or war on your doorstep.

They are not doing any real maintenance, just restarting the server every day to fix the memory leaks that are due to bad coding and prevent a server crash. But since they are incompetent, there is a good chance the server is going to crash anyway...

It's beyond a joke now, and it wouldn't surprise me if people start cancelling their subscriptions soon. I'm thankful that I never purchased one in the first place.

    This.

I posted in the official LTS sale thread when it was first announced, that I was interested in getting it. Now I am cancelling my gold and just buying some account unlocks as needed. I definitely do not see the value of LTS/Gold given the current issues.

Yeah, but I understand his point. Lets face it, no 'casual' players will be paying for subs, buying ZEN etc. Many thousands of players on STO actually DO pay real money into it, and therefore is serious.

There are players who must have dropped over $1000 dollars into this game, many others have dropped hundreds of dollars. With $1000 dollars someone could have bought the latest game console with a stack of new releases to go with it.

With STO, we provide the game console (computer/laptop), we pay for the internet, so with the amount of money that the premium items/subscription costs, you would at least expect Cryptic to get their shizz together, and get this sorted once and for all.

EDIT: before anyone gets pedantic on the difference between console games and this, Remember, you dont see the likes of Halo, EVE, and the ever famous COD going down everyday after an update!

'I am entitled to more than someone else because I spent money' is also a very tired excuse.

They have to perform maintainance to keep the game running smoothly. Your life is NOT going to be irreversably ruined by your being unable to play a GAME for a an hour or two.

I hate it when people post things like this. It's called "Consumer Rights". Capitalism functions on the very basis of the fact that consumers are in control, they have *every* right to complain if they aren't getting what they want, and their wishes are either fulfilled or they abandon the company. The minute you force the consumer to just "accept" everything thrown at them is the minute capitalism breaks down and corporations can take advantage of consumers with poor products and high prices (as we are beginning to see world wide... hmm i wonder why)..

no, that is not a tired excuse, they are not saying that the deserve anything over you.. but.. the point that is being put across is that the money can go elsewhere.. as some have stated, cryptic is losing funds to other games (that suprising enouph, even after a major launch, do not have downtime more than once a week)..

it is a valid excuse, and i am sick of the sniviling fan boys who try to nock someone who has paid for a subscription down, and say they have no right to complain about the "product" they are recieving..

im all for maintnance, but in this industry, more than two maintnences a week, and not solving the problem, is un heard of.. further more, the argument that we dont understand code, so we shouldnt comment on it. well that is simple.. i might not fully understand code, but i do understan that i play three other games, and all of them (again, even after an expansion launch) are able to keep their servers up, have minimal bugs and issues, and only take the servers down once a week on the scheduled maintnance day. further more, if they do need to take it down, we get proper notice (not something posted a few hrs before the maintnace, and it actually fixes the problems they are addressing..

i hope that makes it easier for you and the rest of the super duper fan boy club to understand where 3/4's of the people on these forums are coming from.. (yes, the fan boy club is shrinking, i have seen people who just a few weeks ago were all for backing cryptic and their nonsense, are now complaining just as much as the very people they were chastising..

I'm reading through this thread and I am a little surprised with people who are arguing for what has become daily maintenance.

Once per week maintenance is great. This means you have everything under control and you are capable of planning. Throw in the every-now-and-then emergency maintenance and things are still good. But having maintenance every day tells me that you are desperately trying to keep things under control, and failing at it.

I'll be patient though. It's not like any other MMO has figured out how to release an expansion and not wreck their stability.

^Personally, they can maintenance all day during the weekdays, but please actually fix one thing before each weekend, either the mail, ship missing BOFF's, or 5 second removal/map manager error. These are major bugs, and it is going on 2 weeks and they still are not fixed, one of these would be nice.

Well, that may be fine for you personally, but not for everyone. I work nights right now. A mate of mine works in retail so his "weekends" are Tuesday and Wednesday because his store manager takes the weekends off. The world doesn't revolve around 9-to-5 office workers, no matter how much they like to believe it does.

I've been pretty patient with the constant downtimes, but I really hope this doesn't become a daily thing. It seems like everytime I decide to log-in for a bit the servers are down for one reason or another, and that's getting rather old fast.

Ok, so where I live it is in a european timezone of UTC + 1. I just woke up, thought i'd squeeze in a quick rommie mission before getting ready for work, and I see that there is yet more maintenance scheduled maintenance due. Today, you are lucky with me, as I shall be busy having birthday drinks, but for many others this will be getting stupid.

I am hoping that this maintenance is to ensure that we all finally get an uninterrupted weekend of STO. Its been a while eh?

I say shut the game down for a day or two, get everything that you need done, then get the game back up. I can imagine the majority of players would be happy with this.

couldn't agree more, just as I said here:

Well, if people don't like it they should use the capital mechanism in place for ensuring businesses meet a high enough standard for consumers, take your business elsewhere and if numbers drop significantly they will either have to shape up or ship out.

Complaining on a forum has never achieved anything in MMO history, didn't make Sony see the light, didn't make Blizzard see the light, wont make anyone else either. It is all about numbers, revenue. If people's actions impact their revenue then they will change their customer service or die horribly like most mmos.

Point is, we don't want STO to fail so as a strategy that is self defeating.

oh and by the way, a full day offline will do nothing.. what they need to do is stop rushing untested patches at us.. they need to sit down, figure the problem out.. make a patch.. test it on tribble (cause thats what it is there for, but never gets used that way lol) and then release it..

having a patch everyday is kind of making me feel uncomfortable.. it means that we are getting rushed, untested, code mixed into the holodeck server..

what im saying is taking the game down for a day or two will do nothing, as all of the "fixes" need to be built reguardless of the server being up or down. and once you have a proper fix, its a one time deal..

i mean, i guess all those other successfull games that only take their servers down once a week, and rarely have problems are on to something.. maybe cryptic should make some calls and ask "hey, how do your devs actually operate, we could really use some direction over here" lol..

Yeah, you maybe right, but when we say to take it down for a couple of days, we do mean, AFTER they have got all of their ducks in a row. I quite agree with you, their patches needs to be tested first, but then get EVERYTHING tested, then take the game offline for a period of a couple of days, so they get to fix most of the issues, otherwise, this will go on for months....

yes, but if you have a tested patch, you dont need a day, once the code is right, all you have to do is patch it, and boom.. literally an hr would be needed.. so again, the only reason we should ever see the game come down for a day or two, would be if they were moving the servers to like another building or something.. lol..

    Hi Captains,

The daily downtimes are just as frustrating for us as it is for you -- the last thing we want to have is the game down and you not able to play, but if we announce maintenance, I can promise you that it is because it is needed and is for the overall health of the game. We are working around the clock to get back to our normal, once a week maintenance. Thanks for you continued support.

    Cheers,

    Brandon =/\=

while i am sympathetic that you guys get boned.. understand, it is a west coast united states company.. they are not taking the servers down at 7 am pdt time to cause you harm. that is when (typically everyone in america) starts their work day.) that is their physical buisness hours..

so yeah, this is a point i will actually defend them on.. again, they arnt doing it to TRIBBLE europe other time zones off, it is simply the begining of their work day, and that is when most us based companies do their patches.. (trion/blizzard/cryptic/etc..)

oh and for the person who responded to your post with "their tears would be delicious".. well i can say that "your tears are delicious" lol...
