I've always liked plasma. Attempted a few times to create a plasma DoT build, but got side tracked. . . stupid ADHD. . . Now, with my Romulan, I'm going to attempt it again.

What's always bugged me about plasma though is that its DoT is so easy to get rid of. HE is one of the universal boff powers that every ship runs, which makes the DoT just one click away from clearing.

In PVE don't have to worry about that, in PVP it can be a problem, but sometimes it can have the advantage on some people maybe popping earlier than truly needed.

If you play a Sci officer, dot them up, and Sub Nuke Beam them. Granted you lost your dots but depending on what your fighting you may have forced out their only hull heal.

For PVE, Plasma Energy Weapons are fine.

For PVP, Plasma Energy Weapons are not ideal. As mentioned earlier, too many endgame shields have Plasma Resists (OMEGA Rep). The idea of the Plasma burn proc is nice, but Hazard Emitters eliminates that.

For me, I'm a traditionalist. Romulans don't use Plasma Energy Weapons. They use Disruptors. So stuff along those lines are ideal for me. The Disruptor proc has always been reliable. The only thing is that the proc doesn't stack if it procs from different sources.

I kinda like the idea of what someone posted earlier about them using Plasma since IG Vulcan ships come equipped with Plasma weapons.

Plus if you think about it, Plasma sets them apart from the Tal Shiar. If the TS and RR both used Disruptors how could someone really tell the ships apart?

Most of all its probably because of the game, each faction has a specific damage type as their main. Maybe one day they plan to make Elite Fleet Plasma weapons for Romulans or maybe something else...bigger.

Apparently, they reconcile this discrepancy by having Tal Shiar use disruptors while Republic uses plaz. Why a bunch of rag-tag rebels would retrofit all their ships with new guns instead of simply continuing to use the preexisting disruptors confuses me as well.

Obviously, the in-game explanation is that if we did the completely canonical thing, way too many enemies would be using disruptors, since the canonical disruptor users are "Romulans, Klingons, and Breen".

someone forgot the cardies - yes they are yellow, but still disruptors. which bugs me alot about the true way story arc, cause the npcs fire with phasers, which is totally noncanon.

In all honesty Plasma isnt noticably worse than any other energy type in pvp any more. True there was a time when everyone ran MACO / KHG / OMEGA / Borg shields, all of which have more plasma resistance than anything else, but now everyone in pvp seems to run Elite Fleet Shields which DONT. Well some do but not all. And the ones that do also resist phasers I think.

So by all means, go plasma in pvp. I do on my fed. Its great when you come across the rare individual in an escort who HASNT taken hazard emitters and you just burn them to death. Then again my FHEC can burn most escorts to death during the time hazard emitters is on cooldown :P
