My beef with the latest update.

tonybudztonybudz Member Posts: 16 Arc User
Ok, here's my beef.

1. Ya upgraded the whole game changing the entire control panel framework and colors.

Why would you do this, it's annoying, now we got red, blue, greens, oranges every other color of the rainbow blinking at us along with photon torpedo's flying. Damage points scrolling up and down the screen as your attacking a ship and floating identifiers on every object on the screen. I know what Bird of Prey looks like, I don't need to read it, where's the OFF BUTTON.... IT'S TOO MUCH

You didn't fix the stupid "description window" that pops up every time you highlight a ship function in combat, very annoying, how are you supposed to track a warbird when you have a window popping up and blocking your view telling you what that weapon does?

Warp Cores now too? As if we didn't have enough stuff to add to our ships..

You've taken a game that was sorta cool and warped it into something that has made me 100 percent certain I will never buy a lifetime subscription to, that much you've certainly accomplished.

I would play a couple hours every day, now it's like eh...once every couple days is fine,,soon it'll be once a month.

Oh yes one more thing, since the servers always disconnect players, might you have it automatically reward someone and put the items in their inventory because if it throws you out and you come back and everyones collected rewards it happens always that yours is missing.? It would be nice.

Last but not least, if your going to have the Borg do damage then you should allow us to see what's at least being damaged. Having your ship explode with half strength shields and a little report saying hull stress doesn't quite explain it when you never see anything coming.

All in all a very "Disappointing Update" to the point where I'm not even interested in the Romulus thing, sorta lost interest...

Perfect example of messing with something that wasn't broken.

AND... its pretty easy to find too.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

While not completely, but for the most part I agree with OP.

The UI change was completely uncalled for, it looks stupid, non-star trek and not to mention the color orange is completely unklingon.

Missions that were working perfectly are now rewarded with a crash to desktop.

These are my beefs that keep me from logging into the game.

As far as the UI is concerned I think people either like it or hate it. I actually really like it, in fact I think it is such a major improvement I can't imagine wanting to go back to the old interface. A lot of functions have been made more logical and intuitive. But there are also many that haven't been changed that should have been.

When I first saw the youtubes of the UI from beta I thought the primary colours looked simple and truly awful. I think there may be various factors that are making it look bad for people, because with the updated textures the game/UI looks stunning now, with a few exceptions (over sharpening of character and some ground features).

I'm playing on a 17" laptop screen that is full HD resolution, with a AMD 6990m card (1 generation old) with all the video settings in the game maxed out. I even turned on the DX11 beta feature, but not sure if it made any difference. The space battles are pure eye candy, in fact to the point of initially being visually distracting.

Warp cores allow some extra flexibility as to how you gear up, for instance I run a fed sci ship with Jem'Hadar engines XII for the extra +5 weapon power, now I can use a warp core to replace that and get engines that give me a higher turn rate.

It made the use of Shooter mode a pile less frustrating... now I can actually select which glowy to use! Plus... it's LCARS. LCARS is more Trek than weird spiky whatever it was any day.

Op let me guess, you never played a KDF character did you? The UI for KDF was HORRIBLE, it tried to burn your eyes out half the time. You (as in the player) could not change the colour with the old UI which is why they have changed it and updated it. It feels a little fresh but give it time and it will grow on you.

As for your beef with the borg and damage, there is a combat log which is a part of the default chat layout, just have a quick look in that. Alternatively install ACT and get it to parse your damage given and taken.

As others have stated there are options to turn off and fully customize your experience. If you'd have put as much effort into looking through the options as you have this rage post you might have found all this and not made this post.

As for the guy saying this new UI is not Star Trek...I take it you've never watched The Next Generation or heard of LCARS?

It is through repetition that we learn our weakness.
A master with a stone is better than a novice with a sword.

Has damage got out of control?
This is the last thing I will post.

The UI is probably the best thing in this update. So freaking tired of Fed blue and KDF red. In fact I can actually enjoy my KDF more now that I can stand playing it longer since the red isnt destroying my damn eyes.

Just bear with it, They have losts to fix and will get around to it. Cant enter Crystaline event, cant delete email, Romulans cant enter Kerratt until level 50 and then it adds them to level 14-20 zones. Romulans cant train Boffs, many costume bugs. and the list goes on.

I think first to be fixed will be the PVE events, then the ability for Romulans to enter Kerrat and other PVP events. then the Boff abilities bug, then last will be the costume bugs.

Actually, I like almost EVERY new thing they've added! I thought I wouldn't , I really did, usually I'm the most skeptic about changes of all , yet this time, I'm really impressed with it!

Not only does the game work faster for me, and doesn't slow down at all (as it was starting to before the launch), I really like the new look! It's so much more better than the old.

    And more closer to STO.

Each to their own, my thoughts: if someone doesn't like to play it , then don't play it.

    If ya do, then do.

I think it's great all the changes! I just hope they fix the glitches now.

I feel your pain. The UI on tribble a week weeks back was pretty acceptable, until they added all the eye strain color coding rainbow.

Red Blue Green White Purple Orange Yellow

Wow.... I almost have the urge not to continue playing until they fix the damn UI to some acceptable levels. I'd rather have the old UI back at this point. The game looks messy now.

I get why they changed the UI, what I don't get is why for those that preferred the old UI couldn't have an option closer to the old one. It's ascetics; some are going to love it some are going to hate the change. Why not at least make an attempt at tossing both a bone win/win

    this is a facepalm statement.

A: the previous UI was way way LESS star trek, this one is a bigger leap forward with LCARS if you so choose waaay better than the bland blue.

B: You can change the klingon UI to be red if you want, look in options........

aaaaand the more I read your post the more I realize this is just a troll post, but it still stands as a post to others who may thnk like this.

What I can NOT understand weather you like the update overall or not why they would stop allowing you to target a team member from the team list on the left side of the HUD. I do tribble and give my bug reports but this feature removal makes no since to me. Did someone feel healboats and tanks had it too easy in this game as far as keeping my tacs alive with heals and such? As it currently sits I can not keep up with enemy targets, manage all my cooldowns AND pan the camera around space "trying" to find the ship name that needs a heal because I cant select them from the team menu now.

And yeah, the STF's are getting totally lame with the constant insta-death from nowhere and lack of being able to keep up with healing teamates. There is NO freaking way a engy-tank spec driving an cruiser with over 54% defence against plasma should die 6 times in Infected elite. This is a major change as non of these missions were this difficult before this update.

Even if they change / fix nothing else why nerf an job that is not easy to do in the first place, space healers and tanks? I do not get it at all or is there something Im missing as far as quickly finding and selecting team members in trouble?

Not a happy camper...love my Tal Shiar and Romulan ships though.

Wait being unable to target your teammate on the HUD is intentional? That is the dumbest thing I have heard in this game.

Yea, Iv'e stopped even trying. Probably by the time they "fix" the issue I won't have the habit of tossing out heals any more.

what's up with all these new forum account users?

the STO forums are turning into the SWTOR forums.

STO was fine without all these "new" people. in fact fine enough to launch an expansion. can these idiots hurry up and skitter back over to the other game they hate and quit filling this forum with stupidity?

what is the OP even going on about anyway. you can use the old layout if you wanted.

STO was fine without all of these new people? Hope you weren't referring to me. Kinda short sighted of you to just assume I am some sort of new player just because I have not felt the need or urge to post on the forum till recently. One reason I avoid forums in general are the troll comments and the like. Thanks for confirming you folks are still being lame and name calling on forums. Very mature... (OMG, I just noticed your "join" date...are you freakn' kidding me? Aug 2012? Oh yeah your Mr. long time STO guy on here, lol)

What grinds my gears is that they had been totally unprepared for the big update. Their servers unable to handle all the people that downloaded the update making it take many hours just to download and then once downloaded having to wait many more hours just to get in and that was assuming a unknown error did not prevent you from logging in.

All the bugs that still are not fixed like getting knocked out of missions 5 sec after entering it for example.

    Server maintenance almost every day.

this is the exact attitude that allows developers to be lazy and push a broken unfinished product aka LoR

get around to it? what ever happened to being correct...... out of the box? oh yeh, complacent audience and online patching.

i remember when there was no internet, if it wasnt perfect outta the box it was defective and you got your money back.
