Who the heck came up with the idea for the latest lockbox and what was he smoking?
Why were these boring ugly stupid Tal Shiar ships put in to the game?
I don't ever remember thinking to myself or saying " you know what I really want to get a Romulan Tal Shiar ship thats been assimilated by the Borg" nor have I ever heard anyone say anything like that.
Past lockboxes that featured ships seen on Star Trek shows, such as the Wells, Galor, and D'Kora were a good idea, and its no suprise these ships sell much better and are seen more then the other made up lockbox ships like the Jemhadar HEC, and Orb weaver.
I am mostly pleased with the LoR update and think the team did a great job, but this lockbox just seems like a waste to me. Neither ship looks good, and they don't have a boff or console layout good enough to make me want to put up with being seen in a ship like that. I could still get it for lobi, but the characters I want lobi on are different then the ones that I want mining claims on, and they are bound, so scratch that idea. The only other thing in the lockbox that interested me was plasmonic leech, but already got that off the exchange.
Anyway I just hope the devs know that if lockboxes are what fund the game, then they need to put ships that people have actually said they wanted to see in the game and not just keep making stuff up. If there are no good ideas for a new lockbox ship then don't make a new lockbox, just rerelease the old ones, and put new stuff in it like consoles and mining claims and such. Throwing TRIBBLE on the wall to see if it sticks is not a good idea, and won't sell lockbox keys to me.
Frankly I am glad it is this way. The ship look hideous and if they are also underpowered then there is a less of a chance of seeing them in PvP. I can't stand all the P2W time ships, galors and all other lock box ships.
Good move on this on Cryptic.
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
I think the aim might be for people who really want to go the distance to be a Tal Shiar. Not only can they have the Tal Shiar uniform but now they can fly an actual Tal Shiar ship. At least that's what I've been telling myself. >.>
Also I have seen a few requests for the Narada around, but more people seem to hate that ship than like it lol.
Who the heck came up with the idea for the latest lockbox and what was he smoking?

What may not seem like a good idea to you, seems like a brilliant idea to another. That said, I am indifferent to this particular lockbox. The ship designs pay homage to the work that was done by the Romulans that created the Narada. That ship was made by adapted Borg technology. There are many Romulan fans that wanted to be Tal Shiar and this gives them an avenue to do such.
Most NPC Tal Shiar use standard Warbird models so you can RP as Tal Shiar that way. This ship is just a weird monstrosity that doesn't need to be in the game.

That is your opinion and I respect that but, there will be many players that want them.
To the OP, just because you don't like something, doesn't mean that everyone will agree with you. I, personally, don't like any of the mirror ships or the Tal Shiar ships. Doesn't mean I'm gonna plaster a thread on the forums, calling the lockbox the silliest one yet. Besides, the drops for those ships in the lockboxes tend to be low. Although, admittedly, the last few days, I've seen a lot of people get them. But, it might just be their luck. Anyway. There are other goodies in the lockboxes, besides the ships. If you get the ship, don't unpack it. Just put it on the exchange for a TRIBBLE ton of Energy Credits. That's the beauty of packaged ships, they're not bound.
Personally I think these new lock box ships are a waste. I understand the need to avoid power creep but they are basically the same ships we have now with a different skin and a console. I am not impressed at all. Plus I thought my Breen Chel Grett looked ugly, these new ships make it look like a beautiful swan. the Grett is the best bang for your buck you can get. I actually may avoid opening any more of these boxes just not to encourage Cryptic to release any more ugly gimmick ships.
i belive it is mostly for remen to play nero didnt you notice the similarites? adapted borg missiles fireing from the ship there is a great romulan mission with two missile turrets if the ships missile is anything like that it will be quite fun to fly should atttract alot of business for people who play because of the newer movies weather it is good to fly or not people who want to play nero will make it work no ship is useless just the build
Put a scimitar in a lockbox, and it turns into a "shut up, and take my money!" Situation.
The devs have already stated the Scimitar will be a 3-pack bundle like the Odyssey and lots of people would be ticked off that the Scimitar would be available to Feds and KDF.
Personally, I have been looking for a Borg ship for my Liberated Borg Captain and her Liberated Borg crew and the Tal Shiar ships look much better than the Recluse Carrier for my Borg look. It has the right look of terror to the ship and the only ship that is better for terror is the Shadow ship from Babylon 5.
Put a scimitar in a lockbox, and it turns into a "shut up, and take my money!" Situation.
That's fine by me. I would open 200 boxes trying to get that thing if it was spec'ed properly and not some new skin over a similar build. It would give me a good reason to expand my Lobi holdings. I am pretty sure there are a lot of people that would do that same.

Probably true. I could see them doing an adapted borg Tal Shiar scimitar variant in a lock box as Cryptic has already set a precedent with the current lock box..
The "tal shiar" lockbox is a new low. It's a shame they sullied the LoR launch with it.
Yeah LoR is great except for this. The devs do get very close to that line they the said they wouldn't cross by putting a factions ship in a lockbox by just making it assimilated and calling it Tal Shiar instead of Romulan. It makes me worried that they will continue this trend, next will we see Feds able to get assimilated KDF ships and vice versa? Then how long after that will people want to be able to take the assimilated skin of at the ship tailor so their ship will look exactly like a ship of a different faction?
Soon there might not be a point to separate factions if this trend continues. I hope it doesn't.

Actually, its my opinion that the new ships as well as the narada pay much more homage to babylon 5s shadows than they do any real star trek story line

Pretty sure all lockbox ships can be purchased for EC on the exchange. How is this pay to win?

What i find sad is not your statement, but the profound truth that it speaks.

who doesn't get it that the new LockBox Ships are a Knock Of from the Narada from the 2009 movie?
The Art Style is exactly the same, of course it is not THE Narada, that ship is 7 miles long and would dwarf any Borg Cube in game, not to mention that Cryptic does not have the License to do JJ Abrams Star Trek stuff but only CBS Star Trek stuff.
So this is probably the closest they can get away with without CBS starting to get mad.
Just as visual reference in case you, for some reason did not see the new Star Trek Movies, or don't remember. (i don't know how casual fans you are... so *shrug*)
Cryptic made them Tal'Shiar Ships because Nero's Ship was upgraded from a small brown freighter-like mining ship to a huge black monster... by a Tal'Shiar installation inside the Countdown Comics, known as "The Vault" (which is also in-game and has a BORG Sphere inside it *hint hint nudge nudge* [the vault looks nothing like it did in the comic though... STO's looks better]).
The Tech was, as of the Comic and Movie, from the Prime, OUR, Universe / Timeline.
So it makes perfect sense that the Narada wasn't the only one Ship upgraded, it was a Prototype.
Why does it look nothing like the Borg technology we've seen before (Cubes etc.) -> because it was adapted Borg Tech, the Tal'Shiar practically TRIBBLE the Nanites and coded them to do what THEY wanted them to do.
If you've seen the Movie and read the Comics and add a tiny bit of imagination to it... these new Tal'Shiar Ships make perfect sense to exist as they do in STO.
Frankly, when i've seen the first screenshots of the Ship from Tribble i KNEW this was going to be in a LockBox soon.
Elachi? I wouldn't care, real Romulan Ships, can't do that, would devalue the faction instantly on release. Tal'Shiar, is technically NOT what we are supposed to be as Romulans, Narada look from the 2009 Movie -> PERFECT LockBox right now as Into Darkness pulls all the people into STO that have seen the last movie and just seen the new one.
And Frankly, i want these Ships more than i did the Tholian or Timetravel Ships.
LockBoxes are selling Monsterplay.
Monsterplay does not work for me if i can not have a Tholian Character on ground...
Monsterplay does not work for me if it is a Federation Ship.
I can very well make a Nero-Look-Alike-Character... works for me.
Except that the Tholians made their first appearance in TOS, about 28 years before Babylon 5 even aired.
I watched every single episode of star trek when it first aired in the 60s till i went into the army in 68. Yes, Tholians WERe created in the 60s, at least their ships, but i dont remember ever seeing a single image of them. Much later, The Defiant went back in time answering a distress call from the mirror universe and we see tholians in the flesh, but that was much much later and contemporary to babylon 5..
who doesn't get it that the new LockBox Ships are a Knock Of from the Narada from the 2009 movie?
Of course they're a knock-off of the narada.. but what i was implyingwas that the Artist who created the Narada for the 2009 star trek film, took a great deal of inspiration from babylon 5 which was on TV in the 90's.. Even its size is equivelent to a shadow cruiser..
Who the heck came up with the idea for the latest lockbox and what was he smoking?

take a moment to consider that your personal opinion is not shared by everyone.
these are awesome looking ships that a lot of people are excited to fly. they also do share similarities with the narada which has been asked for, and considering this is one of hakeev's ships in the expansion it would soon have been asked for.

ok... that is... possible
but i really do not see much of a connection there besides them being black-ish and having some... tendrills or whatever you call those arms.
scale wise the Shadow Ships are rather small compared to the Narada i'd think.
but even if there was some inspiration taken from there, the results are good.
37 Tal'Shiar boxes now and that's what I get, every single time. How is that worth the price I paid for keys to open those boxes? Yet every time I turn around I see on chat yet another person got the main ship.
No matter what lock box I open I get the exact same thing.
Lobi Crystals
and
Doff Packs.
I care nothing for the crystals as I need an obscene amount to make them worthwhile and I seriously do not care for Doffs. So explain to me Cryptic why do I keep getting the exact same thing no matter what box I open?
Yeah the main ship if only a .4% chance but holy TRIBBLE with the amount I see always popping up in chat, it seems almost everyone but me is hitting that .4%.
