TSI seems so grim and sad these days its like nothing in the game is fun anymore
Well maybe we are tired, most of ous have played since launch, even with all the new mumbojumbo stuff pvp isn't getting more fun. Its getting harder to kill its getting harder to heal really terrible players if we talk about the pug aspect, sub-nuke really have become an on off button. Elite fleet shields, doffs, boffs and many star-base items makes the game seem even worse when it comes to getting new blood into pvp.
No doubt I have made a handful of new friends the last little while. Some great players have emerged the last while that have all come on board post f2p.
I am not convinced that Cryptic can continue to attract new pvp players forever though. I do hope they start following through on planned/promised changes to pvp. The type of players we all like to compete with and against have had lots of issues with that end of the game for 3 years now. I know for myself I don't really care enough anymore to honestly get to upset about it. I PvE almost all the time now. I do the occasional PvP when someone asks me to join them, I guess when someone needs a ringer for a match or so. I can still believe that. lol
Whats frustrating about LOR for me... is I know I do have some old friends planning to come back... and I know the stuff that they left over 1-2 years ago is still here in full effect. I don't see it going well.
Yea as an outside looking to try and come back, the game doesnt seem to have changed much since i stopped playing, Most spam wins is all i hear from people still pvping. Kick the tires and ligth the Fires Anroniosalieri..........
The only hope we have right now for pvp is to make it a community thing, the ques are ridiculous, rarely will you find a good game between the pug stomps, and the "BS" spam.
Even as a community thing, pvp has suffered. Fleets have come up with 'rules' that enhace their chances to win based on their vision of a 'metagame' (no engineering team), and use their community prestige and reputation to host tournaments uinder these rules.
Virtualy everytime I have played someone latley and win, they come back with 'I want a rematch' and stack as much garbage on the team as possible, the general idea in pvp has become "what can I do to make you lose" - instead of "what can I do to win". - People arent interested in making it fair so that everyone has fun, they want to make the match as frustrating as possible: this is a big reason people have been turned off pvp. The only fun pvp has become interfleet pvp, where the goal is to have fun, and not to 'beat' someone for bragging rights.
- All said, the pvp community in STO (by virtue of its lack in numbers) is generally amicable, and tight. Fleets that use whatever cheese they can are pointed out and news travels fast.

obviously they dont care and never will. come on guys youre smarter than that. im just happy i cant log in, woulda got sucked into the game again. oh well, but for what its worth. what happens to people who spend their time in game trying to help other pvpers, foster good pvp, and arranging pvp matches?>

anyway maybe ill try again, but probably not. to anyone left from the good old days*, to anyone who cares. this is minmax signing off, with one last big fat
Its simply the old and the new generation. Some old gen players can apparently evolve. I havebt been in Season 1-2 so i guess im not so old of a player i guess. But overall the changes from 1 2 and 3 werent so significant under atari anyway lol. The same thing will be said about us 2 years from now, and so on and so on. about the 3rd and 4th gen if they are even able to exist asssuming STO's servers still run then haha.
I wasnt trying to make TSI look bad or anything, not my intention at all.
I just think alot of our opinions are purely subjective and has been driven either one or another direction and further evolved our opinions that way. I dont think anyone is always right or wrong about things.
For me it's less about evolving to gameplay changes like happen in a games like EvE, but w/o going into a long post, instead not liking the massive course change to gameplay over the last year to year and 1/2. It's a matter of desire, not ability to adapt. Play w/o any +1 ships, special consoles, rep bonuses, stf gear, lobi gear, doffs, etc vs others w/same restrictions in fvf and/or kvf, and/or kvk and you'll see the difference in the gameplay.

I hope to see a new warzone, while Kerrat is still fun and where I spend most of my time at, I could use a change. Also some new type of PVP match queue besides just Arena and C&H. Arena is so boring.
Maybe they could add pvp versions of some of the Fleet events, sometimes Fed will be defenders, sometimes KDF would defend the starbase or transports, and it could alternate every day or few hours.
Anyway I think PVP will go through the usualy chaos after big updates, new rep items and passives will go through several balances then turn out ok.

I have never been a truly top notch escort pilot and probably never will be. I'm not good enough to do this oneshot alpha stuff that is required these days (and I'm too lazy to get all the necessary boffs/items to buff my crith/d beyond good and evil).
I liked DPS cruisers (tac and sci) and have always been a big fan of pressure damage setups, but that's dead and there is no indication that it will ever return. Too much of the game is now about the "pistol duel"-style combat and not the tug-of-war that I used to love. The game has too much damage (fairly reliable oneshots by the top escorts pilots even against carrier-strength targets) and too much healing/resist (the death of pressure) at the same time. The skill requirements for good players have gone up (super alpha escorts) and down at the same time (SNBing and attack runs don't require good piloting anymore, only a jump console).
In PVE, you see on average negative resist on the targets because of APB/FOMM/Scan. In PVP we have to deal with >50% average resist. The 40s GravPulse still hasn't been adressed. Warp plasma still doesn't show up correctly. Balancing is now done by people that don't even know how the cooldowns on EPtX work. There really is no hope that this will ever get better.
If one encounters a new setup that one cannot beat, one usually can't say "we'll retrain some boffs and be back in a couple of minutes" anymore. Now it's "we'll have to get several new lockbox ships and items and reputation on some toons, see you in a couple of months". The low gear threshold was one of STO's greatest strengths, "Get to level cap, grab a good shield and otherwise white items, and you are ready for competitive pvp". That's entirely gone now.
but I have a lifetime sub, so I will complain and demand the return of the good old times until they shut down the servers.
exactly the way i feel, all that apply to me verbatim. ive sorta learned to love escorts, sorta. they are as durrable as cruisers used to be back when they worked
i got the legacy pack. im not giving up just yet. and no, im not replacing the red tag with a green one. dont forget about the middle child cryptic
Now that LoR is released, granted some kinks will need to be worked out. Are Cryptic now gonna live up to the promise of PVP getting some real attention?
Forget the petty lock box whining, the P2W bs arguments and all that nonsense.
This is the true question:
Is it the PVP community's turn to get the proper attention as promised by Cryptic?
The measure could be:
A PvP environment in which a true tournament can be run without any "real" complaints and without any community made rules
Thanks for the post, Naz. I can only say that I hope your question is answered with a "yes."
I think your second point about creating a no complaints (or shall we say, "no bs"!) PvP environment is really complex. TBH, it is unfortunate that we, the players, have to self-regulate at all.
From what I can see, though, achieving a well balanced game--which I completely understand is difficult to pull off, esp. when unique abilities are available on a faction-specific basis--will require a reevaluation of STO from the ground up. Minor changes here and there, new PvP maps, power balances, etc. are simply not going to fix the systemic issues that plague PvP.
My biggest fear is that the devs will implement a new reputation system and call it PvP's salvation. This is entirely the wrong approach. I don't mind a rep system that is PvP focused, but it needs to be accompanied by some pretty dramatic reevaluation of the whole PVP system.
One answer is the Guild Wars 2 answer - in PvP you effectively have a copy of your character and ship, which is limited to PvP equipment and abilities.
A lot of development work, but 'easy' in the sense of 'conceptually simple'.

I don't even think it would be that hard really... they have the doll tech from the shuttle stuff... they have the system to create -s gear... so -p gear wouldn't be so hard.
The only issue would be us... those of us stupid enough to talk Cryptic out of doing it. lol

What about a rep system with a twist? A system where you don't grind for traits but an unending grind for gear. That way power creep can be limited or slowed down to an extent. This way, its not about who can afford the best gear no more. Cryptic get the grind factor which they somehow deludedly think is what we as story players and not just pvpers want and we start to get a grind system that is palletable.
Who the hell wants to do the same dull nukara missions over and over and over and over for a solid month or 2 on multiple toons? I sure as hell don't. A good alternate, add marks of choice to PvP arenas. That's a step in the right direction.
If you guys meaning Cryptic want us to grind, for god sake, make it fun and appealing. We grind enough in real life...

1. I don't! (want to do Nukara=) DOn't make me do it, no more!!!
2. I agree, allow us to PvP to advance in PvP. This would not feel like a grind. We could just do what we love to do.
I also play Old Republic--quite a bit these days, actually--and while this game is not perfect, I do like the fact that my I can earn all of the top-tier PvP gear by simply doing PvP. don't have to go slaughter PVE Jawa NPCs (or whatever) to get my PvP gear. In fact, I could level my entire toon, after reaching 10, just doing PvP and PvP dailies. Holy heaven I love it!

Agree. I mothballed most of my toons! Levelling up the Reputationsystem for six toons with this boring missions once, is far more than enough. Won't do this again!

Because it's dependent upon Klingons getting exclusive and extensive attention, and that will never happen.
It'll get promised and then pushed back again, and again, and again, just as always.

The only chance we have are even more gentlemen's agreements and more NO-BS tourneys.
Cryptic will not prioritize us over the RPers of the game.
Thankfully we can still keep the game fun despite their attempts to **** things up.
Maybe we need a NO BS RP PvP Tourney!
Surely if we RPvRP we will get the attention we deserve!! :P
