Dear whoever TRIBBLE my account:

mithie3mithie3 Member Posts: 18 Arc User
... you could have just taken my Zen, and my ECs, and my items, which already would have netted you a pretty good profit, but WHY did you have to delete my characters?

That was 3 odd years of effort!

Deleting my characters wouldn't have done ANYTHING for you.

I have invested at least 600 dollars into this account, and got much enjoyment out of it, and now it's gone.

Now I'm staring at a blank account.

Why do this? Sure, take my EC, Zen, fine. I wouldn't have been happy with it, but in the long run, it was a small loss. But why delete my characters? WHY? What could you POSSIBLY benefit from that?

I can't speak to your unfortunate experience, but this happened to someone I played with 7 years ago. It turned out that his wife didn't like sharing him with an online world.

For me, this was during the past weekend, when there were quite a few people whose account was compromised.

The issue lies in the fact that Perfect World does not check with the ORIGINAL email account for verification before allowing an email change, and once you change the email, you'll have access to everything.

I'm not certain what the exact cause is, but my mail account was NOT compromised.

Just as kids will go on the rampage breaking car windows, narcissistic people with little empathy will destroy what belongs to others, and do so with the delusion that it's some kind of accomplishment.

Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

They can if they still have them backed up. Click the link, ask about characters being restored.

As bpharma said, they have the ability to roll back characters, provided they have a proper backup. But try not to alter/play your chars untill you've recived confirmation that they can.

They did it a little over a year ago, there was a similar wave to what we see right now of accounts were compromised.

    Edit:

Thanks to thecosmic1, I found the guide to help you:

this is why its always good to copy your character to tribble once a month at least. Tribble has a different database and people that steal accounts usually dont bother with the tribble server copy.

Devs simply look at tribble and can at least, theoretically, have proof that you were X level and had X reputation and X items on your character.

Mithie3 I hope you get your characters back.

Mine are gone, possibly due to an account linking issue, though I've been waiting 8 days for a reply to my ticket so be patient.

    Support is currently snowed under.

Or did Cryptic give you your account back without retrieving your toons? Which would be a tad strange.

Anyways, you can blame cryptic for everything these days, but you have been TRIBBLE, with your email account, or your cryptic account, in either way. YOU have been TRIBBLE somewhere.

The responsibility was all yours, one of the weaknesses in your security was compromised so thats hardly cryptic to blame.

Dont be naive about hackers removing your account, there are plenty of people that find it funny to do. Why would they care 1% whether they delete characters from someone they hardly know? They might not even have known is was '3 hard years of work'.

If i ever get TRIBBLE into my accounts I blame me and myself only for not having taken enough security measures like changing passwords occasionally etcetera because of laziness.

When read the title i was expecting the following

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for Lobi, I can tell you They are Bound. But what I do have are a very particular set of traits; traits I have acquired over a three year long career. Traits that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my account go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will report you.

:D lol. Best thing ever! (I keep reading it in Liam Neeson's voice) O_O

P.S. I also ho[e that PWE Support can grant you your characters back. However, I've had a long time dealing with support for various games. They don't like doing extra work.

Excuse me? and why exactly is it that you are blaming the victim here exactly? how is it his fault that someone TRIBBLE his account? he hasn't taken enough security measures? hes 'lazy'? did it not cross your mind that anything he does doesn't guarantee the security of anything? and considering hes not the only one to have this happen lately how do YOU know that it isn't a problem on cryptics end? its certainly their responsibility to ensure he gets back his account intact. don't tell me they don't have backups, any mmo company that doesn't keep backups of their database is incompetent

claiming the 'responsibility was all the victims' isn't just ignorant its idiotic and offensive

just out of curiosity...why exactly would you do that...?

to me its 25% your fault and 25% cryptics fault and 50% the hackers fault.

the hacker part is obvious so no need to go there.
as for the other 50%; your to blame for not making sure your account was safe by changing passwords and such and cryptic is to blame for not stopping the hacker and a fail to their own security measures when it comes adjusting email accounts and passwords as their measures in this department is woefully lacking.

as its stated before by others; fire off a ticket and try get your stuff back, the toona likely in their database still. give as much detail as you can about them and explain the reason ect.. just wait on them.

It's much worse when the person TRIBBLE is a fleet leader or a T3.5 starbase >_<

The hacker immediately kicked all fleet members out, changed the fleet name, then started advertising that he was selling the fleet. He tried to blackmail a sizable sum out of our members, but we simply said "no" and started rebuilding from scratch. Thanks to the generosity of so many other fleets who heard about what happened, Caspian Rising is back up to T3 just a few weeks after what transpired (it took us over a year to reach 3.5 originally).

We did try to get a backup restored to get the fleet back, but after a lengthy investigation, Cryptic refused since the fleet leader had shared the account with 1 other fleet member despite the fact that a keylogger trojan was located on the leader's PC.

Some basic practices can prevent account hacking even if a keylogger gets through undetected:

    1) never use the same password between apps -- always use character variations to keep passwords unique.

    2) Enable PWE's account-guard

    3) register STO on a unique e-mail address with a distict password. Set one up on gmail or hotmail -- don't use yahoo (has an ongoing security hole that hasn't been patched). NEVER access this account from your STO PC -- use another device or smart phone to check it.

By keeping your STO registered e-mail isolated away from your STO PC, PWE's account-guard actually becomes viable since the registered e-mail address + password cannot be easily captured.

Once the upgrade gets sent to the main server, Cryptic will also update their main game download. When a new season (or in this case expansion) is added, I download the full game right from this page. If I ever have to reinstall "Star Trek: Online", I will not have to wait for the launcher to download a seasonal (expansion) patch. I will only have to download the mini-weekly patches.

Now, since I do this ritual every season (upgrade), I take the opportunity to refresh the whole game. Sudden game stops, experienced throughout the year, can cause corrupt files. As a result of doing a full install, I can eliminate any potential problems.

I kill two birds with one stone.
