At first I thought the lack of access to Federation uniforms was due to just visiting the Romulan tailors but visiting Earth Spacedock I'm still limited to just Romulan uniforms.
I get it that Cryptic is all about making Romulans feel unique but at the same time the character is still a member of one of the existing factions. The player should have the choice to put them in whatever faction clothing options are generically available.
Will this mean I couldn't use any of the CStore costumes for my Romulan? While that would certainly save me some money it would be rather foolish for Cryptic as it would cut off a revenue stream with an Xpac that will likely draw in both lapsed and new players.
It's the same situation as with the ships. Cryptic wants to lock in the use of Romulan ships so Romulan players don't feel they must pick certain existing "best" ships to preserve the "uniqueness" of the race. But all that does is limit, savagely, the options of Romulan players. And if Romulan ships aren't kept up to speed with those "best" ships it will create a strong sense of resentment among Romulan players.
More options Cryptic, not less. I thought from past Cryptic games I've played it was a lesson the developers had long ago learned.
Romulans don't get access to Federation uniforms because they are not part of the Federation (or Klingon Empire). The Romulan Republic is a faction of its own. We get to choose an ally, but this system only matters in regard to PvP and Fleet Starbases because Cryptic apparently didn't have the resources to implement 3 faction PvP.

Well, if that's Cryptic's attitude it's certainly going to take a burden off my wallet. I was planning to switch up to Romulan after seeing the backstory but now knowing I won't be tempted by the oodles of CStore appearance items for both clothing and ships? That's a major plus for me.

Too bad for Cryptic.
There's already at least one Romulan costume pack planned.

This.
Really now? So why give a Romulan a Fed uniform ('Yesterday's Enterprise') as a quest reward, hmm? How many Klinks get Fed uniforms (i.e. uniforms they can't wear) as a reward?
Doesn't stand up to logic. So Romulans can fly your ships (hell, they're GIVEN the ships) but not wear their clothes? Sure you can drive my car but hell if I let you wear my jacket!
It's an oversight. Unless they have a dozen or so Romulan vessels (and bridge packs and costume sets and...) ready to drop within a month of the expansion's release (that would be 'by late June'), it doesn't make fiscal sense. They're going to such pains to distinguish the Romulan Republic from the Feds and KDF.....but forcing them to buy/fly Fed or KDF ships? Does not compute. As it is, I have a sneaking suspicion that Romulan ships are going to be palpably inferior to their Fed and KDF counterparts and if that's the case, people aren't going to want to fly them (outside of RP purposes) anyway.
The whole point of a f2p game is to give people a reason to buy TRIBBLE from the cash shop. Anyone remember when the Galaxy Dreadnought was first introduced and people whined and wailed about how overpowered the Spinal Lance was? I'm pretty sure that controversy drove some sales (and is why most MMO expansions launch with at least a few OP features.....which are nerfed after the initial rush). Coming out with a new faction and not allowing them to wear the uniforms of the faction they ally with would only be done by people who are allergic to money. Pretty sure that description doesn't fit PWE.
Your whole point shatters and sinks at the fact that Romulans are not allowed to use T5 ships of other factions. Also, they are not given the T1-T4 ships, they can only buy them for dilithium, not with ship tokens.
And the Galaxy Dreadnought was at no point in time overpowered. It always was big nerfboat they actually had to improve.
FKA K-Tar, grumpy Klingon/El-Aurian hybrid. Now assimilated by PWE.
Sometimes, if you want to bury the hatchet with a Klingon, it has to be in his skull. - Captain K'Tar of the USS Danu about J'mpok.
First to the OP, why do you want to wear Fed uniform for your Romulan character when he or she is not part of that faction. The ally uniform that you get is not Fed uniform, it Romulan design and only named fed uniform to distinguish it from the normal Romulan uniform.
@remianen; they didn't give you fed uniform because the fed don't use the uniform type they gave you. If you look at it very well you will see that it a Romulan design and variant version. Just like the way the fed have soo many different type of uniform. They simple name it Fed or KDF uniforms so people can say, I got a cool uniform when I allied with the fed or KDF. That how simple it is.
"You ask why we give our ships computer normal emotions. Do you really want a warship incapable of loyalty?"
I'm perfectly happy with my Romulan toon not having access to official Federation / KDF uniforms - as other posters have stated, your Romulan toon is part of the Republic, not Starfleet or the KDF.
On the other hand, when I'm playing my main Fed toon, I would like it such that any Romulan BOffs I recruit for my Fed crew via the embassy progress be permitted access to both Federation and RR uniforms - this permits for cases where the Romulan BOff is a full-fledged member of Starfleet or an exchange officer from the RR. Much better than the survivor rags currently available.
Laws of thermodynamics as applied to life: 0 - You must play the game. 1 - You can't win. 2 - You can't break even. 3 - You can't quit.

And yet, warbirds can be named with the U.S.S. (United Star Ship) designation. The ships can wear the "uniform" but the characters cannot.
Motto: I'm just playing the cards I'm dealt, one Ace at a time.
Why would Starfleet allow non-starfleet/Federation to use their uniforms?
One thing is borrowing them their ships (wich most don't seem to take advantage off btw), but those have IFF's identifying them as Romulan ships. A Uniform would not signal that distinction.
On the other hand, why would a Romulan officer want to wear the uniform of an ally? That would be like the US marines adopting the British uniforms just because they are allies and doing missions together.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
So you want a fed toon with romulan benefits, why play as a rommie if you want to look all fed'ed out? Starfleet is so dull compared to the rommies and klinks.
I think it would be a good compromiss if "loaned" Boffs could be able to wear at least the Alliance Uniforms. Not fully Starfleet/KDF but also not fully Romulan Republic.
A thing in between.
And like I said, to be able to and not must to.
I understand that special mission Boffs like Breen, Jem Ha'Dar shouldn't be customizable and be true to their race because of the tasks to get them.
But Embassy or bought Boffs are easy to obtain and therefore be more integrated. My opinion..
I understand fully the reasoning behind not allowing Romulan Republc characters to wear Federation uniforms. What I would be in favor of instead as a C-Store unlock is a true Federation Romulan. That is, A rare Romulan who has eschewed both the Republic and the Tal Shiar who has bucked tradition and found a new home within Starfleet. (After there are Federation Klingons so why not?)
How about letting Romulans at least use accessories that we buy from the C-Store at least, such as the only decent looking boots for women, the Seven-of-Nine ones?
All-in-all they should be more flexible. Also, I'd love it if you could roll a Federation Romulan, or could just join the Federation outright as a transfer/exchange officer etc., all kinds of pathways and options could be allowed. Just use your imagination, the possibilities are many.
And specifically for the Seven-of-Nine outfit, the only Star Fleet identifying marking is the comm badge which would take 5 seconds to edit out, so incredibly doable it would be sad if they didn't or just let us use it anyway...
I might be mistaken, but if I recall correctly you are asked to "join starfleet" during the speeches for selecting your alignment.
Even if your are 'on loan' to starfleet and not a full fledged starfleet member you should be able to wear their uniforms - without any SF insignias. At the very least you should be able to wear any non-standard clothing item. (including T'Pol, 7 of 9 and other CStore unlocks which are not current starfleeet uniform)
Since you're new, you should know the site frowns on posting in threads over a month old, and this is from back in May/June.
Everywhere I look, people are screaming about how bad Cryptic is.
What's my position?
That people should know what they're screaming about!

I thought since this was an ongoing testing environment and old bugs crop up a lot, that the rules were a little different for Tribble Forums. I mean how are the devs going to address old bugs if they can't look at an old thread from when the old bug first happened?

the klingon ones are there but a bit hard to find (I accidentally randomised one to klingon shoulderpads)

Or to put it another way, British troops under the command of American Generals in WW2 didn't get to change their uniform too.
