If you could choose a villain and story aspect for ST3 ... what would it be?
If its another shoot-em-up, then Klingons. Get a fleet of them in there: Kor, Kang, Koloth, Chang, & Gorkon. Show ground combat to show why the 3 K's were Dahar masters. Kill Chang.
I'd kind of like to see a story with a dominate exploration theme, or at least some sense of wonder, though. Tight writing. More "City on the Edge of Forever" less splashy "The Motion Picture". It'd be great if there could be a sympathetic, thought-provoking antagonist similar to the Romulan Commander of "Balance of Terror". Actually, he'd be interesting, if only for the comment made in the episode that he felt that in some other life they might have become friends.
We really should acknowledge that this is a reboot. Yes, he gave the alternate timeline, but that was an olive branch; it wasn't a justification for every change. It was simply his way of saying, "Hey guys, I'm completely revamping Star Trek and I'll be making several changes... but I'm doing it in an alternate timeline so the Trek you love still exists."
It wasn't meant to explain away every single change he made. Some changes were purely because they wanted to change things, which is exactly why Klingons and Romulans developed foreheads.
The alternate timeline wasn't added to explain every difference the between the former Trek and the new movies. It's a revamp. Things are going to be different. The alternate timeline was added to preserve the 40 years of Trek history, and it completely and totally accomplished that.
Trek is Sci Fi and a product made for television and movies it is not real and for it to continue it has to change to still be relevant in todays markets.
I went to see this film with two friends, neither of whom had any interest in Star Trek and are au fait with "today's television and movies" even they thought it was a bad film on many levels.
Thats all it is. Thats all it will ever be. Something the TV companies can put adverts inbetween and make some cash. Something they can sometimes put on the big screen then sell on Blue Ray. Its a product like Coke or Pokemon, not something to live your life by XD
I don't "live my life" by Star Trek, Star Wars or any other franchise. I do however aspire to a creative ideal where entertainment and life is about more than just fast cars, faster women and loud explosions. Which is what I feel they turned Star Trek into, which is in my opinion banal.
It just happens to be better than most other Sci Fi ( with the exception of Doctor Who :P ). But hey by all means keep you Picard jim jams on and grow that Mirror Spock goatee if you want
You might not like my opinions or the opinions of others, but puerile insults just weaken your own opinion. I have neither Picard "jim jams" nor a Mirror Spock Goatee and my opinion is just as valid as anyone else's with or without them.
