JJ's Star Trek I set the grand stage.
JJ's Star Trek II focused on their biggest single Villain.
JJ's Star Trek III I believe will focus specifically on a Federation-Klingon War.
I'd estimate that we'll see JJ's Trek 3 some time after 2016, though before 2019. The Enterprise is on it's five year mission, and I'd be willing to bet that the third film in this trilogy will focus on the retelling of The Undiscovered Country.
It'll take place after the five year mission, in which it'll include a huge Klingon-focused story, likely with Kirk trying to bring peace to the table with a Klingon chancellor (who may, or may not end up assassinated by his own people). Considering the cast (last I checked) had signed on for three films, this would be a good place to conclude the story. It was specifically mentioned in this film that war with the Klingons was inevitable, and the Klingons played a substantial part in Kirks time. What better way to end the trilogy than to have the Federation and Klingon Empire come out of it's conflict and negotiate a peace treaty?
Star Trek 1: kind of like the pilot and the origin story all in one with a dash of Balance of Terror
Star Trek 2: Space Seed TOS.
Star Trek 3 TOS Klingon Federation war kind of like "Yesterday's Enterprise" where the Organians never stopped the conflict and the main villain is the Klingon Commander Kor.
As Commander Kor said in "Errand of Mercy" after the Organians stopped the conflict Kor told Kirk had the war began.......
"It would have been glorious"
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] "This planet smells, it must be the Klingons"
Even in TOS, the Organians didn't impose their peace between the two sides until the conflict began to annoy them personally.
So, the movie could feature lots of cool combat scenes between Starfleet and the KDF, and then a "covert" mission to Organia that culminates in the seemingly primitive and pastoral Organians basically telling both sides to sit down and shut up because they're becoming bothersome. Maybe some nice SFX-heavy sequences showing weapons failing to fire or delivering something totally silly (a photon torpedo hits a deflector screen and explodes into a spray of pretty flowers), controls becoming too hot to operate (but only when they try to use those controls to attack one another), etc.
I think it wont be the Klingons. I think it will be the Borg or V'ger or BOTH. The Narada was a self aware ship full of borg tech it very likely it called for backup when Kirk was blowing the hell out of it.
If you read the prequel comics to the first movie its The Narada thats more or less running the show and was the true villain of the first movie.
Got to love comics/novels that create a story out of something that wasn't even very vaguely hinted at in the movie.
I dont know about that. When you watch that movie its villain Nero is weak but when that ship first appears its like HOLY {BEEP} WHAT THE {BEEP} is that thing. The prequel comics Countdown and Nero did have help from one of the writers of that movie.
u do know a "supernova" can only travel the speed of light yer... which means even if it was to blow they would have about 20 yrs if not more to get ready and remove all from the planets so sorry but JJ trek if a load of rubbish and not based in fact!!
at last! people are finally beginning to see the light that jjcrapverse is just that. how it took this long for people to realize how TRIBBLE his product is i will never know.
i hope berman or okuda takes back trek from abrams, because he is really going to destroy its name before long considering he is now working for a rival sci-fi show in star wars...
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

Jam, if you want to stick to unmodified science, a supernova in one system is not going to destroy planets in another system 20 ly away.
However, if you play Fed missions through the Romulan chain, you'll uncover what happened to cause the Hobus supernova to destroy Romulus. (Don't know if KDF-side makes the same discovery - turns out I don't enjoy playing Klink enough to get that far.) Let's just say it wasn't a natural phenomenon...

Well we've had Romulans and Klingons, and an enemy from kinda from there own side sooo...
I think Klingon's or Orion's.
Klingons if finishing the trilogy as a War Film conclusion
--- or Orion's with lots of sneaking around, a plucky few making the difference when they jump out onto a shuttle with the fleeing evil bad guy. Also aside from Romulans and Klingon's there were one of the only other races to have a ship fight the TOS Enterprise and have a villain being chatty in person (rather than a view screen - Tholians) (Journey to Babel) TM (Just in case that is the plot).
Besides all the Tholian CGI would cut into the lens flare budget.
Also its almost certainly going to be a 2016 release that being the 50th anniversary of when Trek first hit the screens.

Because most aliens having human-like features - or even only forehead ridges of one form or another without much variation per their ALIEN environment - is TOTALLY scientifically probable. How much technobable is spewed in Trek shows to explain away things or to fill in plot holes? Quit acting like everything that's come before hasn't done the same or worse.
People seem to forget this is just a movie, not a documentary. I liked the 2 new films and can not wait for the next ones. But they will not beat the originals. After jj trek is done they should add real things in the movie and series.

NOT! every Alien was like this if you watched every trek series you'd know this
AND! If you watched the TNG Ep Chase they gave a reason as to y so many were which is scientifically plausible so...
One thing about Trek that people should think about is a LOT from it has been made in to todays Tech so... again the science is there to back up most things u seen on film...
JJ trek is not one of them
OH and since when did the Enterprise have 72 Torp Tubes coz in new film it does...

Right, because Berman, Braga et al didn't ruin the TV franchise at all with Enterprise and it's soft rock theme tune and the movie franchise with Nemesis.
It will be a good, solid, entertaining movie that certain fans proclaiming themselves the sacred guardians of 'real Trek' or just plain 'JJ haters' will rip it to shreds while the bigger, more accepting Trek audience will enjoy it.

Sound familiar?
No, no it doesn't. Trek aside it wasn't even a good action movie.
My prediction which follows established model:
Contrived story possible rip off of (homage to) previous movies/stories, token female character in state of undress. Mindless violence, very little explanation or logic as to plot lines. Little to no continuity across the film or series as a whole. Gratuitous deus ex machina and lens flare so bright you go blind watching it in 3D.
I mean seriously, these last two films make The Phantom Menace look awesome; which is will undoubtably be the same thing said at the launch of SW 7.

Ill leave this here and walk away....

Aid in leading the Romulan Star Empire back to its former greatness.
Join the Romulan Praetorian Guard and teach those epohh loving hippies what it means to be a true Romulan!
