I have chosen a side

jake477jake477 Member Posts: 516 Arc User
Based on my personal taste, the dev blogs, the uniforms, and what i know about the Romulan story and canon i will chose:

KDF

Everyone seems to be choosing the Federation, that's weird to me, the Federation have been against the Romulans since United Earth. The Klingons have a history with the Romulans, good or bad. Besides if you were a Rebel/Smuggler in the Romulan flotilla you would hang out in the bad part town in Qonos in the bars and clubs, not admiring the Galaxy Class on Earth Spacedock. The uniforms look bad TRIBBLE, compared to the federation, you can still get the smuggler outfit anyway from the neutral set and that looks better than the Federation variants. Plus its more logical for the Klingons to help you out anyway since they have also have history of giving arms to small bands of Rebels like the Maquis in DS9 to fight the Cardassians hence the Juggernaut episode of Voyager which was the inspiration that created the Bio Neural warhead for the game.

Klingons seem more open and honest about their feelings toward us anyway and i rather have that then the Federation bottling up their true intentions and Sector 31 breathing down our necks, we already have this new enemy and the Tal Shiar.

More weapons, more guns, orions, perfect for a smuggler Rommie like Han Solo.

Who would you ally with?

You have an Empire Veteran tag under your name. Would anyone be shocked that you chose the KDF? :)

I will make one of each. After that, who knows? Whether I make a 3rd will depend on how much I enjoyed playing through the content with the first two. But the next 30 days will be full of me leveling 2 Roms and 1 new KDF - take advantage of the new Klingon tutorial and missions. After that I'll probably just return to my Dilithium grinding and wait for the next season. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

The same, for nearly the same reasons. :)
Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
    unfortunately:

    NOT LOYAL ENOUGH!!!

I won't be a full KDF player, The Elements promitting but i'll just use them to take Sela, Hakeev and those weird aliens down. Besides the Romulan uniforms on that side looks so much cooler and more smuggler than colonial warrior (even the Colonies i believe would ally with the Klingons)

I'm federation guy now because i HATE the Klingons, i love Romulans more than all the other species so i'll do what good Romulan does, use and abuse them and get all need and do my own thing. The Klingons respect independence, the Federation could hunt you down, i don't need that.

My first Romulan Republic character will be B'Ran, a Liberated Borg (science). He'll be allying with the KDF.

My first Romulan (Mendak) will probably side with the Federation, just because I identify more with them than the Klingons.

I plan to have at least 2 Rom characters so will choose both.

I think the Fed side will be better for teaming up, but I do think a lot of the KDF ships go well on the rommie side. and the uniforms look cool.

I have 3 toons on tribble at the moment ( 2 romulans and an alien ), i have experienced both Klingon and federation alliance's, the kdf side may have less shiny's but its fun. When LOR launches i plan to have my romulan on the fed side and my reman on the kdf side ( quad disruptors and their green bolts of energy look good from a mogai ).

I think I'll be going much that route myself, I like the Typhon Pact logic of the Remans having been taken on as a Klingon Protectorate - ok it doesn't fit STO timeline, but still...

I'll do one each and maybe a third. But I find myself moved by the RR story Line. I find selecting KDF seems to make the most sense. KDF if they don't like at least let you know. It would seem to be a situation more comfortable even to a traditional Romulan player. The uniforms look nice to my KDF eyes they do.. The fed allied uniforms remind me of a uniformed doorman in Manhatten (*grin not seriously, but I gotta stay in character!*)

And, after all, a certain romulan sacrifices his life to save a Klingon... whom am I to not honor his choice?

I'm still fleshing out the details, but I do know that my Reman male (name and class undetermined) was born shortly before the Hobus incident, and has been bouncing around the quadrant ever since. As a member of a formerly subjugated species, he's mistrustful of the Klingon would-be conquerors, and is more comfortable allying with the Federation.

See I happen to like the fed Romulan uniform. But that is a matter of personal taste.

As for which side I will choose. I would go with Federation. From a Lore perspective, I think it make more sense.

Following the Dominion War and Nemesis, The Romulans seemed to be warming up to the Federation, so it seems a logical progression that they would be more receptive to the federation then the Klingon Empire, which they have historically hated.

Fed Aligned Liberated Borg Romulan, either Sci or Tac, haven't decided yet. While I do like some of the KDF Romulan uniforms better than the Feds, I plan on using a Romulan uniform anyhow, and already have invested Fed side, so I don't see that switching is advantageous for me.

First character: Tarleya, Romulan tactical officer, will ally with the Federation. Why? Because the Klingons only promise to help hunting the Tal Shiar and we also need lots of help rebuilding. When Hobus went Nova the Federation immediately sent aid while the Klingons tried to conquer part of our space and the Federation has the Vulcans. Conquering them with the Klingons is probably not what people understand under "Reunification". (OOC: Worf's face when he saw Ba'el's ears killed the Klingon/Romulan alliance for me.)

Second character: Vranek, Reman engineering officer, will ally with the KDF. Why? To kill Tal Shiar goons and anyone else who tries to keep the Remans down as brutally as possible.

Third character: Designation not yet decided, liberated Borg science officer, still undecided but probably Feds. Why? It's the more efficient thing to do.:D
FKA K-Tar, grumpy Klingon/El-Aurian hybrid. Now assimilated by PWE.

As a side note, I love the fact that names are not unique here. Reading this this thread I see people sharing the names of their future characters as well as what side they're going to pick. When threads pop up on other game forums regarding names, people are always like "Nope, not sharing because it will be stolen." Love being able to see people share their names, factions, and back stories without fear of having it being stolen. Good stuff.

I decided a long time ago that my first Romulan will ally himself/herself with the KDF. But sadly, there are a couple of downsides to this:
    - inherited and brand new bugs and glitches (cause it's the KDF - they're never given as much attention as the FEDs...)
    - male characters' facial expressions get all angry after choosing the KDF side... (not sure it's gonna get fixed...)

Anyway, I'm thinking of making a Romulan Sci for the KDF and later perhaps an Engineer Reman for the FED. Despite the fact that STO is all about escorts and dps, I'm not planning a Tactical - got bored of them a long time ago.

You could always play a tactical officer in a cruiser set-up!

My 2nd Romulan character will likely be a Liberated Borg Romulan tactical officer.

My general idea is that the character was never actually assimilated by the Borg, but is instead the result of the Tal Shiar's tinkering with Borg tech...an attempt at a super-soldier.

He or she will be a sleeper agent within the Republic, loyal to the Tal Shiar, but willing to fight the Tal Shiar in order to cement D'Tan's trust.

Someone had mentioned before in the thread that the Romulans had been warming up to the Federation in Nemesis. That alone would be the basis for my own Romulan character going with the Federation. Janeway and Picard are icons for me when it came time for me to choose a side between Fed and KDF when I first started playing back in Feb 2010. Sadly, due to computer issues, and a cheating bf, I was unable to play the game until recently.

So, I will be going Federation, mostly because of the influence of Voyager and Janeway, and a dash of what Picard brought to the TV screen with TNG. I never have been a fan of the Klingons, but I did find the Orions interesting.

For me, it's a no brainer. Remans are more attractive because they are the underdog with psychic powers and heightened strength, as well as unrivaled in their technological exploits as evidenced by the Reman scimitar far surpassing any other alpha quadrant ship in fire power and cloak technology. Remans also seem more trustworthy than the Romulans because they are the downtrodden slave class of the Romulans, used primarily for mining and as shock troops in military campaigns, and therefore less likely to exploit others as the Romulans did to them.

A Reman-KDF alliance seems to be a a more logical choice because the Federation, tbh, seem like a bunch of honorless opportunists. In the 24th century, the Federation entirely ignored the plight of the Remans because they deemed the Romulan oppression of Remans an internal matter. Now that Romulus and Remus are destroyed in 2409, the Federation comes offering aid and expecting that Remans will wholly ignore the Federation's stance on the Reman issue during the last century and that they'll form an alliance with the Federation. Are you joking me? It's clear that section 31 will do anything to get their hands on Reman cloaking technology. Their intentions are clearly not honorable. The Klingons, aside from requiring Remans to serve in their military, have nothing to gain as they already have cloaking technology. It is also likely that the path to Federation citizenship, if were ever even to be considered as a viable option, would take much longer to acquire than a KDF citizenship, years, in fact. However by pledging our loyalty to the Klingon Chancellor and Emperor and by serving in the ranks of the KDF, the Reman path to Klingon citizenship would be all but guaranteed. Moreover, independence is not a viable option as it is likely we would be attacked and enslaved again by the Romulans and the Tal Shiar. We welcome our Klingon brothers with open arms :D Qapla'

I'll probably end up making my Romulan character ally with the Federation, but mostly because the fleet I'm in is much more established Fed-side (same players on both sides). We only have maybe 4 or 5 active players and our Fed starbase is only just about to hit tier 4, I haven't even looked at the KDF fleet starbase in a long while but I know it's much further behind.

I will be rolling one of each. along with maybe rerolling my kdf orion sci as a Gorn sci (simply due to the fact that right now, orions have access to 3 traits to choose from...while gorn only have 1 -_-) because after LoR rolls out, I will be able to have a much greater customization to a Gorn :D
