I'd like him a lot more if he had the Superior Operative trait.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
Aside from the uniform issue, he doesnt speak like a Romulan and uses idioms and slang no character in the game should be using. I cringe everytime he says something.
He comments constantly even when he isnt on a bridge station, department head or Away Team. He didnt beam dowm but still adds his two cents.
Its MY story not his.
He isnt my first officer, he isnt my buddy and I dont really care about his personal relationships.
Either make him an NPC or a Boff but not both.
My only wish is that when you are indoctrinated that he is the one you get shoot. Even if its just a hologram.
If I wanted companions with stories, I'd be playing SWTOR.
I can only hope at some later point he dies a slow painful death
I have always wanted BOFFs with their own story and voice work.
The Trek characters in the series had their own progressive story about who they were and where they came from. It's great to see this happening in STO.
Just another reason to love this new update to the game.

Good news, there are two other factions in the game that don't have companions with stories.
I like having a story, and I like having to not have to create my own reason to have an attachment to my BOFFs.
I do like your idea of Tovan being the one you have to shoot, it would certainly tie to his story better.
Does it matter to other people? No, I actually loved the story, and why should his story have any meaning in PvP? PvP doesn't really matter, in my opinion.

Tough, it's how Cryptic wants it to be, and if you don't like it, oh well.
Anyway, good story, I love this sort of stuff. Hopefully the other Bridge Officers, Satra, Veril, and Hiven, get backstories like Tovan has.

The new Klingon starting missions give you one, actually. Without being able to create a character and play the tutorial it's hard to get specifics, but some character who dies in the tutorial under your command, and upon reaching First City your first job is to notify her next of kin, who then joins your crew.
This character isn't locked the way Tovan is and can be immediately discharged, renamed, etc, and his story ends shortly after he joins you, but the same can be said about the named female Reman who joins your crew shortly after Tovan.
The blog itself, not at all, pretty much story stuff. But some people like backstory. It helps with immersion, and I for one love that our Boffs are more then a bunch of nameless (figuratively speaking) officers.
As for the character himself. He is pretty good as officers go, HY 1, which he has does pretty good damage. especially on Plasma torps with the DoT.
Honestly, half the time I don't dismiss the beginning Boffs with the romulans, is they are actually WORTH keeping. ground or space they have some great skills that can really help. and it is so much easier to keep the rag tag bunch around then try to find someone new with equal or better skills.
At least give us the option to get rid of him when we reach level 50. He can still be present on the ship in an adviser role and annoy us during missions, but I'd prefer complete customizability of my crew.

Believe it or not, just like Lisa in this pic a lot of people actually play this game because of the story.
That's a fun link.... and personally I enjoy reasons beyond "I wantz Shinies, NOW !" to kill everything that moves. Makes all the murder and mayhem much more satisfying.:D:o

Since no one's seen content past level 21 who knows what happens to him. He might even let you change his clothes once a certain mission has been achieved.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

.
I like a backstory too.
I honestly cant stand the story the Devs are telling. Its not my story. I would prefer to give myself and my BOs their own story rather than one one invented by someone else that I dont like and am forced to ignore.
Every thing in this expansion is FORCED. Forced to be a farmer. Forced to be in the Republic. Forced to be a Fed.
Truth be told my character and BOs had their stories created years ago waiting for the Romulans. Everything the devs have created pretty much doesnt fit.
Comments
at the moment we can write our own, but for the specific set boffs I think cryptic should add a bio themselves, if not already planned.
edit - companion style boffs are a welcome addition though, especially if they get VO as well.
Would be nice to see the Feds and Klingons get one somehow? Perhaps in a future FE series somehow?

It doesn't. But for those of us who care about story, it's an entertaining read.

I still want some content to fill the gap till the 21st lol.. its down times like this that make me less likely to play until then.
Your Javelin deals 125417 (89066) Disruptor Damage(Critical) to Tholian Recluse. > lol

More meat for the grinder.
Awoken Dead
Now shaddup about the queues, it's a BUG
I think you should have to shoot his sister. You finally find her, then you shoot her.
Im suprised they didn't make him our boss and put us as his boff
Seriously though I have not met him yet but I already hate the guy

He's a spy... but if you remove him BOOM trilithium explosion.
I disagree 100% with this. Disagree so much.

Eradicate the Romulan.
well the way he barks commands and gives orders and offers his opinion, it often feels like you ARE his BO.
he needs to learn his place.
