So I am lvl 30 on tribble and the only choice I have is an engineering cruiser that turns like a whale. Please tell me when LoR goes live there will be at least one other ship to choose from.
Besides the fact that the ship doesn't offer a chance for Sci and Tac captains to use Lt Cmndr BOFF skill of Tac or Sci officers, it also requires two engineers for the stations, which most tac and sci captains would not have at this point.
At least allow us to apply our ship token to an allied ship. The disappointment at reaching lvl 30 and not being able to use Gravity Well, Attack Pattern Omega etc. is truly crushing.
As it stands now I see myself having to use the Mogai for an extra ten levels. For my science Captain it actually is a better choice as I actually get to use more powers in that ship than in the D'D.
Thanks for listening.
(Alternate suggestion would be to make the Cmndr Station in the Commander D'D universal to allow all captains to enjoy it.)
Didn't you hear ? a lot of people like to play tank whales, so every LoR player has the opportunity to try one for himself :P

I find this line of replies sadly hilarious. We put a lot of work into the massive list of fixes/changes above, and ya'll are hung up on the ability to skip our content. =p
i'll admit after the mogi(sp) going to the D'd is a shock as up until that point you are basically just flying escorts as the 1 and only option unless you some how manage to get a a couple thousand dill and use an ally's ship. other wise it's here have a cruiser
yes but due to the changes for the RCS console it wont be MUCH of a beach whale ....at least can still wiggle around XD
-_- i want to fly it already lol
that or give us access to the ships we have already bought on holodeck to use on tribble -_-
You think that if you get +1 more turn from RCS consoles your whale will suddently turn to a dolphin ?

The D'ridthau? I really should pay more attention to the ship configurations when I log back on.
its going to be the first ship i buy once LoR goes live...seeing as the devs STILL dont allow us to ...oh idk..TEST the ships -_- (Any ships not just the romulan ones)

Yes, It's really great that it got one, and the poor Fleet Galaxy is stuck with not even universal ensign

This is what concerned me. There needs to be more ships, or at least different congis. if you have levelled up as an escort, which we all pretty much have then you are forced to take a d'deridex cruiser.
now fortunately its such an iconic ship that it will probably soften the blow but the only other option is to use a fed or kdf ship which is an option, but not an ideal one. i think at the very least there needs to be one escort option, even if its a tier 4 mogai.
Erm Tac captains don't have to fly tac orientated ships. Science don't have to fly science orientated ships. Don't understand people's mentality around this. Engineers in an Escort become near enough indestructible and Tac in a Science is just plain nasty.
What is 'lame' about the D'Deridex is the sudden shift from something like the Mogai to space whale.
wish i could but since tribble doesnt track purchases made on holodeck...(no i dont get any test zen -_-) and the devs dont have a cost to the c-store ships i cant fly my kdf or fed ships :P on a romulan that is lol

the problem you seem to have missed is there is 1 option only, unless you want to spend money flying kdf or fed ships, or use an inferior lower level ship.
not only is that limited in the visual side of things but it hampers gameplay if you have gone through the first 30 levels playing one style and then given a ship does is the total opposite.
I have the same issue the other way around why should I be forced to fly an escort for the first 30 lvl's. There needs to be less escorts in this game not more.
I also think you should have to have flown 1 of each type of ship for 10 lvl's before you can be promoted to VA.

I fully intend to lvl my first Romulan in a bird of prey
if I can't get one thats lvl appropriate ill use the older ones
My take on this is that it illustrates the fundamental game play problem STO has been plagued with for a while ... the slow turn rate of large cruisers seriously outweighs the limited tactical benefit of cruisers in combat regardless of you faction.
It would be okay to have cruisers turn like whales (even though the Galaxy class and D'ds in TNG and DS9 moved pretty quickly at times) if there were SERIOUS increases to DPS or hull/shield points to make up for the fact that your cruiser/dreadnaught moves like a beached whale.
Cryptic either needs to make cruisers and dreadnaughts maneuver more easily or they need to update the cruiser/dreadnaught specs so they can take WAY more damage than they already do and deliver way more DPS in combat. Bigger ships should mean a bigger power supply to shields and weapons ... then at least you won't feel so helpless when escorts fly circles around you and hit you from all sides.
In the immortal words of Captain Sisko: "It may not be what you believe, but that doesn't make it wrong."
Don't believe the lies in this forum. I am NOT an ARC user. I play STO on Steam or not at all.
Make smart use of Battle Cloak. Get all Romulan Boffs who each have the trait that reduces Cloak Cooldown. Why? Battle Cloak adds a huge (and I mean HUGE) bonus to turn rate (My Ha'apax was at turn 30 with 2 Mk 6 RCS consoles while cloaked).
Constant Cloaking will let you set up for cannon runs.
You think that if you get +1 more turn from RCS consoles your whale will suddently turn to a dolphin ?
I got a very Rare MK VIII RSC console and my Whale turns quite nicely.
The problem is that most NPC ships tend to Fly right at me like they are trying to ram me or something and it gets pretty hard to bring my DHC's and my Quad cannon to bear.
Using the Battle Cloak helps quite a bit when trying to reposition the ship and if all else fails load Tractor Beam Repulsors 1 and get yourself some breathing room.
Playing Romulan with the KDF I noticed that some Z-Store ships became open to me even though I did not own them.
The Battle Cruiser with the push console and the BOP with the Quad Cannons.
I liked the Quad Cannons so much that I ended up buying them on the live server
On one hand, I actually appreciate a less is more approach in theory, as I think MOR SHIPS isn't always the answer. But on the other I would like to see the Romulans flesh out more over time, even though it likely means inventing a bunch of totally non-canon ships for most tiers.
In the back of my mind I wonder if on some level Cryptic is thinking towards at some point allowing us to build new parts into lower tier ships (adding console, weapon, BOFF slots) for a later season. The Romulan setup feels like something that would work under that sort of system.
There's still another piece of the puzzle to fall into place, being it a down the road feature, or more ships. Hard to say which yet.

The +1 version of most of the Romulan Ships are rumored to have 1 or so unversial Boff stations so it looks like we'll have to pay for Science and Tactical ships.
At least if you go with the KDF has your ally you'll have access to the BOP @ T4 and will be able to set it up has you like without have to give up the Battle Cloak
I'm loving the way RCS is working now...I put that badboy on the Big D, and it makes a difference....also when you cloak I can get the D'deridex to turn on a dime, so it won't take me 2 years to turn her around like a ship that size normally would.
I still think the D'Deridex should have a bridge layout 'similar' to the Nebula. It's well rounded with a slight leaning towards control, which is especially helpful with the extended activation arc of science abilities and limited turning capacity of the ship. It would also have just enough tactical capacity to make use of all those weapon slots, without being able to match the offensive power of a proper attack ship.
I realize the D'deridex was the Romulan's answer to the Galaxy, but I really don't recall it being used as a tank as much as it was used for intimidation and control/manipulation(lots of things categorized as science skills in this game).

What Cryptic should consider before releasing anything.

the problem is you give up resistance for that and that's a cruisers bread and butter so you turn faster but go poof a lot fatser
