Actually, when we get given our new character slots, I think I'm just going to reg another SF toon, just so that I get a (brief) chance to fly my T1 Connie without it getting instantly blown up.
I am currently playing to lvl 50 in TOS
I am using the Exeter class ship but with only the blue phasers
my crew is outfitted with TOS uniforms and only uses the TOS phasers that level up with you.
So far I made it to lvl 30

Hmmm, no, no, no tier 5 connie please. I really can't say why, it just feels wrong, for some reason. However I really see no logical reason why it wouldn't be available, except CBS or whoever apparently saying no.
If I saw someone flying around in a tier 5 connie I would feel compelled to switch to my klink and pick a fight, just for old times sake though. Win or lose who cares, if you think see Kirk you have to take a shot at him, honor and glory for the empire demand it

This is far the best discussion on the tier 5 connie, i'm in favor of it for four reasons and still use my tier 1 on most of my characters.
The first is these are rebuilds and not originals (for that matter all of the new ships are rebuilds because nobody keeps original equipment on them), so technically they are viable at va like so many have posted!!!
second then people can use it ingame and be more competitive with missions (pvp, pve, etc...) plus look at the ai version at va and see their hull and the reuben james has aft phasers and torps at va a 43000 hull points,
third the models are ingame use them to their most potential!!! It was pointed out in the beggining of this post that they were customizable (three of mine i kept that way thankfully) the devs recently redid the jem hadar and breen sets so they look wonderful on these ships and the reman shields make it look totally extra-terrestial, the aegis set looks like a tos refit to the tos connie, basically they should make all the ships available for tier 5 so not to waste these models and as well allow the customizations to be restored to the tos connie.
last is my personal feel, I originally bought the game game for two reasons the tos connie and the lifetime membership, and it is my favorite ship.
There is one change i feel should be done, combine the tier1 connie with the tier2 cruisers (connie refit, exeter, excalibur, and vesper classes) so that they are interchangeable in customizations with each other. Since these ships are modern redesigns and all basically the same size it would only make sense to allow them to use the parts from the other ships plus this would allow for many to loose the 2200 feel and make them more appealing to a majority.

It is possible but kinda challenging to use. James T Cat will have his paws full in some missions, but Ive done very well with this setup. I think if they where to add 500hp to the hull and double the boff and console slots, that wold suit me just fine. In the meantime while the fat cats in the corporate world are counting thier coins, this cat will still be out the giveing this ship a name, they may have burried the USS Enterprise, but the USS KIttypize will never die!!

I moved to an exeter just to give it more survivability....though I may move back to the TOS E after I hit 50.
Today I hit lvl 40. So far the enemy ships haven't been too hard save for the Rom D'D which is requires luck and skill.

Who's to say it'd be obsolete? The T5 variants are retrofits for a reason; they are overhauled or new models to bring them up in line.
Recently, I've been thinking a bit about other show and movie things I want to see in STO, and have come to the conclusion that the long standing controversy about the T5 Connie seems like the perfect backdrop to get around the problems with licensing the JJverse Constitution specifically.
Really, the JJ Connie is a fair bit better then the original one, so the idea that prime universe Starfleet going back to the original designs and making a modern ship that ends up looking like that one isn't too implausible. Bonus points if the STO version includes the gatling gun phasers as it's bonus power.
I don't think it's ever really going to happen, but if there is a T5 Connie that's really what I'd love to see.

If it's mainly for PVE, why not make TOS "campaigns" and missions through the foundry that feature TOS-only stuff. Have it be like a TOS theme park.
