Romulan Names

cyberpunkfalconcyberpunkfalcon Member Posts: 125 Arc User
Because of the upcoming Legacy of Romulus I thought I'd share something I found awhile back:
http://www.alt-starfleet-rpg.org/misc/romulannamegen.html

Even if you don't use the generator there is some great info for anyone who wants to come up with a good and authentic sounding name.

Enjoy!

Also for fun please post what your going to call your first Romulan!

I'm going with D'Manda Rihan Tomalak

I always associate Romulans with Ancient Rome. Because of that reason, all my Romulan and Reman characters are going to be named as such; I took inspiration from the Spartacus TV show on Stars. I've already decided my main Romulan/Reman toon will be called Varro.

My fella's going to be named Tenix Mheissan Valdore. :D Decided that I'd make him a distant member of Admiral Valdore's house, a character from the Romulan War novels by Michael A Martin.

EDIT: Either that or Hasaj Mheissan Tenix... Hmm! Hard to decide.

Don't know how accurate it is, but I used that :
    http://www.geocities.ws/rihannsuculturaldb/houses.html (explain the naming convention)
    http://www.holotrek.net/index.php/Rihannsu_Proper_Names (dictionary)

For the ship names, I'll use Roman lore or Romulan history names. For example, I use the IRW Donatra, or for my fed romulan, USS Rhea Silvia.

I honestly had no idea what a Romulan name should be aside from the characters I had seen in the shows and movies, so I did my best to gravitate towards that. I'm pleased with what I ended up with: Varina Aseron.

I still like the idea of Roman names for Romulans.

So I check out a list of Roman emperors for character names and Byzantine emperors for ship names.

Currently on tribble I have Subcommander Tarquinius of the R.R.W. Dicorus.

I think for a Romulan science officer (Fed or KDF) I like: R'Imus ir-Khoal.

For a Romulan tactical officer (probably KDF) I'd just call him D'Kaol na k'Manatran (the Outcast).

That's all I got right now.

    Legolas Link Spockson

    ;-)

No. But I have thought about how to get a pop homage in reasonably.

Considering a Reman named Retsam or Ortsaem as a nod to The Master from Buffy (similar makeup to Remans, same actor played The Maestro on Seinfeld).

    He is kinda Reman looking:

    http://www.fanpop.com/clubs/the-master-buffy-the-vampire-slayer/images/29898313/title/master-photo

In general, I'd say... Two syllables. Only two hard consonants maximum, better with one. Try to end on an L, N, M, K, or S.

In general, though, any name that works for a Cardassian or any Klingon name that doesn't start with a K or have an inflection mark will work for any non-human in Trek.

    Y'Know:

    Tebok
    Larna
    Taibok
    Elim
    Veral
    Parmac
    Hadar
    Leskit
    Hovat
    Preloc
    Prenar
    Divok
    Lurkan
    Almak
    Procal
    Molor
    Kodrak
    Kovok
    Darok
    Rakal
    Parem

There you go. There's a bunch of names. About 1/3rd Klingon, 1/3rd Romulan, 1/3rd Cardassian. I doubt anybody could tell them apart without remembering the specific character.

And you can always get away with ending a male name with an -ius or a female name with an -aria, -ia, -ara, -ra, -asa, -sa, or -a in any language in Trek. :-)

Pappa Squat's Quick and Dirty Romulan Name Generator.

Step 1) Pick a name you are familiar with.
    Examples: Betty, Steve, Andrew

Step 2) If the name begins with a vowel or vowels, drop them. Otherwise, go to step 3.
    Example: Andrew > Ndrew

Step 3) Place an apostraphe after the first letter.
    Examples: B'etty, S'teve, N'drew

Step 4) If the second letter is a vowel, drop it. Otherwise, go to step 5.
    Examples: B'tty, S'teve, N'drew

Step 5) Spell everything after the apostraphe as phonetically as possible.
    Examples: B'tee, S'teev, N'dru

You now have a Romulan name. Enjoy.

Adding further to the necro with the hope that this will resolve it. Instead of using a random name generator which may or may not return authentic results, maybe you should try consulting Romulan Language Resources, many of which have lists of names that have been used in both hard and soft canon.

To see your characters full name, bring up the status screen for your character - Where you equip things, then there's a button at the bottom called 'Edit Record'. Click that and you'll see - And be able to change, your characters full name. (And assign a title or write a biography).

I'm gonna have to wait for the server to come back up because I can't see what you're talking about. I had entered the full name into the profile when I created the character.
