What do you do with your old ships?

malakhglitchmalakhglitch Member Posts: 55 Arc User
I am only a Captain and so still have a few ship slots open, but by the time I reach Vice Admiral I would have all slots filled since I got the Ambassador-class from the Temporal Ambassador mission.

So do you just de-commission the ships or retain them? Or maybe you buy ship slots and make like a pack rat?

I mostly kept my older ships. (Still got my original Miranda from the Original STO launch). Others I replaced with Fleet counterparts and say they got a refit. (More item slots, more storage. ;)) 1-time or reward ships, I'll keep in storage. C-store ships are just placeholders for other C-store ships (for consoles).

Be aware that you can always drop C-Store ships and get them back again since you paid for them. If you do have these and want to dismiss them, make sure to take all the consoles and devices off first otherwise you'll lose these things.

The "free" ships that you get when leveling and lock box ships... all of those cannot be gotten back - you'd have to pay for them again. I'm not sure about mission reward ships (like the Tier 3 Ambassador.) The Tier 5 Ambassador is not being offered anymore so you could not get that one back.

The Rear Admiral ships (the LAST one you get for free) are worth keeping since they are good enough for end-game play. The lower Tier ships aren't powerful enough to do anything serious at end-game (Vice Admiral) because your foes are more powerful.

Personally, I have kept my "Enterprise" ship classes but dismissed my Miranda, Akira... If I need to I might drop my Tier 4 Exploration Cruiser since I have the option to get the higher tier Galaxy.

If they would complete the range of models that you could mount, it would be nice.

I keep them, as I'm not in danger of running out of ship slots. The only "new" ships I get are the mirror universe ones.

I take my old ships out behind the shed (the Shed being Wolf 359) and put a bullet into their bridge.

I usually just discard them, so that I can make room for other ships I might get. I don't have a lot of ship slots so I have to manage with what I have.

I discard older (free) ships as I outlevel them, and only if I need the slot.

I have yet to buy a ship slot for any character, but there's always a first time :)

I've purchased a ship slot before I figured out I could dismiss them. Then I only hold them to keep my consoles and things.

I mostly use them as free storage for alternate weapons and sets and such. Although most of my characters generally have at least another ship or two that I tend to bounce between if I get tired of a playstyle with them.

I'm keeping them all mothballed until Cryptic lets me put a BOFF in command and use them as a space away team. ^_^

This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!

For now, save your free starter ships and use them to store set pieces. Once you are stabilized in the game, you can delete them and free up space for other ships. They are useless for combat, and you can buy them back with two days of dilithium grinding if you get misty eyed.

I have fitted each ship with a set for a specific play style and i use them in missions & STFE.
The only ships i don't use is the giveaway Odyssey. This is my storage ship.

Hate the design, don't like the boff slots, don't get me started on the turn rate and i could continue. The only redeeming quality is the number of slots which makes it the perfect storage vessel. If only it could hold DC and DHC the i could store then on it also.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Decommission mine and hoping the other ships in my dry dock will get some use with the Fleet Admiral system that might exist when the level cap is raised. Lowest rank I have is Tier 5 ships.

Only ship I really kept was my old T2 Connie. Mostly because the name she originally came with was actually the name of my hometown, Tacoma. I did replace her recently with the Exeter refit though but kept the name, registry number, and design. Just wouldn't feel right getting rid of her. I mean... what are the chances of a ship with a randomly generated name being named after your hometown?

Any other holdouts that don't get decommissioned get used as storage for equipment I wanna keep and not use up bank slots.

Good points raised about them being extra storage. I'm gonna be keeping all of them, even my Light Cruiser, for as long as I can. :D

I think the Tier 3 Ambassador can be received again by repeating the Temporal Ambassador mission.

the way they setup boffs its really have to have several working ship types..

they all seem to need different powers.. so switching is a nightmare.
