They are near identical in performance, but Fleet AC has better boff layout if you are running 7 energy weapons and a torp instead of 8 energy weapons. I use Aux2bat to keep these ablilites at global cooldown, so I use in my Lt Cmdr slot TT1, BO2 or FAW2, and APO1, and torp spread 1 in my other ensign slot.
The 2 tac boff slots let you use 2 rare male romulan tac boffs there for more crit chance/severity then the excelsior can have.
Plus the Fleet Assault cruiser is just the best looking ship in the game using the Regent model with the fleet skin material on it.
The Chel Grett is a purpose built warship though so at least that one makes sense, just look at it's boff layout.....it's pretty much an Escort with less turn rate and more hull/shields while the D'Kora and Galor are very obviously Cruisers.
Yes, definitely agree. However, by immersion I meant in terms of being a Starfleet officer. I find it annoying that arguably the best cruisers in the game are all non federation ships bar perhaps a handful, the ships mentioned thus far in this thread being a part of that exception.
Inevitably the sovereign itself should be every bit as powerful as, say, the Galor or Breen or even a Klingon cruiser. Make no sense that you have to have a fleet shipyard at Tier 5 just to access a sovvie that performs as well as the fleet excelsior that unlocks at tier 3 fleet shipyard?! Especially if you consider how much the ship itself kicked TRIBBLE in the movies.
Now I am kind of interested on trying an assault on my engi toon....but I love how my Excelsior holds its own in estfs consistently often getting higher damage then escorts. Things to ponder...
I know, right?! Amazing ship and it never fails to surprise me how well I do in it even in PVP. I had an 11 (kills) -3 (deaths) win yesterday. DPS is great but durability is what I find often wins the day. Hopefully the FAC will be equally as fearsome, if not slightly more because of the extra tac options.

Ok, I have a noob question. Is the fleet embassy the exact same embassy as the one everyone uses on Romulus? I never tried using it before and yesterday I was looking to see if their was a specific transwarp button, similar to that for the Fleet Starbase, but couldn't find any. I know, stupid question, but up until yesterday I never gave Romulus much of a second thought.
The sovvie is definitely the nicest looking ship of that era, your right!

IF the current change to EPtX powers goes through on tribble, I would now recommend the Sovvie over the Excel if you plan on running anything higher than EPtS1. Anything higher, and you have at least 2, more likely 3 ensign engineer slots that are completely wasted.
If you run EPtS1x2 and add an ET1, then you will find the Excelsior to your liking. Otherwise, wait and see what comes of this tribble EPtX debacle. If it goes live with this change, then get the sovvie.
Fleet Assault cruiser is the best if you are running aux2batt. Personally I love mine, looks nice, and packs a punch. Hell I just did a 2v4 FvK arena and gave those klanks a good swatting while my team mate exploded (sorry, its true).

Haha. That's interesting to hear. As of April 12 on Tribble, ALL EPtX skills shared cooldown is now 20 seconds down from 30!! Which means that people running double Aux2Bat will now be able to keep up with the 100% uptime of the EPtX's. With the cooldown from Aux2Bat, we'll be able to run any EPtX skills back to back every 20 seconds (down from the old 30 seconds). Can anyone say immortal cruisers?!?! O_O

I find PVP more exciting lately in a cruiser... I chalk this up to months and months of researching builds, skill planner, PVP boot camp, and of course more than my fair share of having my a$$ handed to me by every conceivable PVP'er... I am happy to say I learned my lessons, licked my wounds and have come up with a semblance of a ship build that makes people think twice before attacking me alone.
That being said, the more I hear reports on the Imperial the more impatient I feel about getting it! Why do we fleets have to wait 13 days after completion of Tier 5 in order to purchase Fleet ships? Seems unusually cruel...

You know, it's interesting how many utterly broken ship builds start with Aux2Batt and Technicians. I don't understand why Cryptic is crippling emergency power for most players, while leaving in this nigh-exploitive combo.

They aren't broken at all. They allow cruisers to tank and deal out heavy sustained damage, which is exactly what they are supposed to do. Everyone complains about how escorts are far too tanky, this at least helps the cruisers become a force to be reckoned with.
"Allows cruisers to tank"... By throwing away Aux power? No TSS or HE for heals. Even disregarding the power level issue, also has a conflicting cooldown with Aux2SIF which is an outstanding tank ability.
That and the fact that these Aux2Batt builds only become viable with a triplet of purple-quality Technicians, which means that this supposedly core mechanic for cruisers is only going to be available to people who have put significant effort into the doff system.
I very highly doubt that the way Aux2Batt works is intentional.

Sure you lose aux power for heals, but thats why you have to be careful about your timing. Or alternatively if you're taking a pounding you can pop an aux battery. Of course, it also has the secondary effect of pushing your weapon, engine and shield power through the roof. This assists in tanking because your increased speed is increased defence, and your shields will regenerate faster. In addition if you are dealing out heavy sustained damage it is likely escorts who are not being healed externally will be forced to break off or risk destruction. Frankly the cost of the technicians is no different to say running multiple attack pattern doffs on an escort, which are also obscenely expensive.
Given how it states quite clearly on the doffs that it reduces cooldown of powers by 10% when used with aux2batt, I believe it is working exactly as intended. Get rid of that and it really will become 'Escorts Online.'

Given the changes incoming to EPtX abilities, Escorts Online is about to arrive. The ONLY viable build for a cruiser anymore is Aux2Batt. I personally don't use it. I've tried it and it cuts into my healing role too much in PvP. Given the new change, I will either be forced to use it (not sure how the new cooldowns will effect it) or roll an escort. Or switch to Elder Scrolls Online, which is what I am leaning towards now.
