Tried hard with my engineering and science builds which make up the bulk of my toons - but they are just not up to the job. I love them - but it seems STO does not(more in regards to the game in general - as they have made quite an effort in this event to make other things count then pure DPS - kudos for the attempt cryptic!). Oh well - can't beat em - join em.

Dusted off my uber tacscort - fully geared and rep'd out to the max- vapourized that baby!

Engineer and sci - tried to heal - use every trick in the book but the best I could get was 3rd place after 10 runs.

(too be honest I really just wanted to see if I could get it - it's crappy loot - an Accolade that I don't check and a Trophy that i will never look at - only time I ever been down to the trophy place on my ships is on the KDF side where you have to place your Bat'leth trophy to finish the Episode mission. Never been back there)

There is already a thread about this, and I've got 1st place with 2 SCI and 3 Engineers, was not really that hard to do.

I got 3rd place on one run with my Engy/Tank Ody. I think I could probably get 1st if I went Offense Ody or Sovy Refit.

What kind of gear were you using on your Engy?

If you have high threat control and decent dps, you can hold aggro on the entity and be able to heal all the damage you take, this also gives you points besides just doing damage.

By tanking the entity and putting out decent dps using a DHC command bortasqu with sensor analysis, my eng was able to get 1st place both times I tried today.

Another trick is to never stop firing even when it says to. A well built cruiser will survive the super attack, while many escorts won't, leaving less rivals to be able to win after.

I played 12 characters and not a single blasted one of them got First place!

Cryptic needs to either get rid of the stupid placement system or revise the accolade system.

Guess it depends who is in the match. The time I got 3rd place was in my Tank Fleet Excel eng - and there were not many escorts in the match.

All other times I played sci or Eng - there were lots of escorts.

I will be running this on 6 toons - 1 tac 3 sci 2 eng

I will keep track as best I can each time I run it how many Escorts are in the match.

Because each pug is a different make up - it would be hard to give a definite answer - without knowing what the other players were flying.

I will also put my Sci and Eng in escorts and see if that changes things to.

Got 1st place with Kdf tac raptor
Got no placing with kdf sci korath
Got 1st place with kdf engi voquv which spams pets and sci CC, and is all turrets + 1 front romulan torp build. (very poor dps in general)
Got 1st place with fed tac khyzon
Got 3rd place with fed engi healboat starcruiser (faw spam at 25 weapon power). All it did was heal people. (worst dps among all my ships)
Got 1st place with fed sci vesta (spam danubes, and heal anybody that needed healing is pretty much all it did).

I think this proves that you don't need to be a tactical dps escort to win place, or even be first in new CE.

Yeah - you should get a accolade for defeating it. The gear you get for first place was purple X - crappy shield and some mono armor.

One way Cryptic could do something without making major changes at this point is to give the accolade - - trophy when you complete the rep - so after 17 runs.

That would probably be a much easier coding thing and everyone could get it.

No way I like the placement system...I mean everything is this game is given pretty much to given to everyone for high gear weapon....but really they don't need to give out Trophies to everyone just for participating so everyone can feel good about themselves.... might as well give out special participation ribbons...Oh wait they do it's the shard.

I like when there's competition other than PVP in games...Racing or this.

yeah but the old one - didn't everyone who participated get the accolade and the trophy?

So what's the difference? (other that it failed 95% of the time on a pug)

That must explain why the only time I've gotten first so far was on my relatively under-geared KDF engineer in a Vorcha. Just sort of sat at 5km firing as often as I could, not doing what I thought was particularly overwhelming damage, and constantly healing.

I noticed that too - just keep firing no matter what it says - I kept blasting away this last time when it said to stop and I was taking the CE down a few % each time.

The trophy should be unlocked for anyone that actively participates in the event. This applies to every Fleet Action. Although adding it as a reward for completing the event project also works. Trophies are highly personal rewards that you can't show off to other people unless you invite them to your ship so there is no reason to restrict it. Lets face it. Some people that play the game will never get first place and punishing these people is cruel. Titles on the other hand is a good reward to restrict to first place.

I got a 3rd place in my not-very-well-equiped Vo'quv. I think it has to do more with staying on the target and who else is in the instance.

Got a 2nd place and another 3rd place on a couple of escorts that tried to play the way it was intended. Probably could have gotten first place by staying on target and healing myself.

At this point we should get the CE trophy after doing those 14 runs. Because the placement system has always been stupid. Outside of boredom, that's why nobody bothered with the Fleet Actions anymore.

The only option for normal people to get it is hope they can get 9 other people who will help them accomplish it. Which pretty much makes the idea of a "first place" trophy, worthless.

Thanks to Cryptic publicly promoting those stupid DPS parcers, everyone is running high DPS builds, that has made this game extremely too easy and took out any challenge there is. Even NWS has become too easy to get and allowing people to farm it for Fleet Marks.

And what is Cryptic going to do? Make it even harder?

If first place was so great, then why is the exchange flooded with cheap Purple MK10s,11s, and 12s?

There is no thrill in getting a purple like we did in the first year. They dumbed down the game.

Most people don't go to my house, but not everyone should get the Grand prize first place Trophy that I won.

Got first in a torpedo carrier sitting at 9.5k spamming plasma torps and elite scorpians and throwing heals at friends and grav wells at shards.

Only one of my escort alts got a 1st place. It probably needs more than just raw dps most of the time, depending on who is in there with you to get first place.

Got first place on a tac running the Jem'Hadar Dreadnought carrier. And I wasnt even trying. Didnt move except to get out of range of the AOE attack and then back into weapons range twice, otherwise I sat still and shot the thing. Its possible to not be in an escort and still get first place.

Had an engineer friend get first in a Temporal destroyer. Had a second engy friend in the same ship get 2nd. I got 3rd running the same carrier on my tac just launching fighters. I dont know what everyone elses problem is.

They really should just give out the trophy/accolade for finishing the Rep system event since in the old CE Event anyone that completed the event got it even if they were not helping at all. It's not like it would break the system like it's some overpowered weapon they are giving out, it's just a floor trophy.

I got 1st place with my 4 Feds and 3 KDFs (one of each class for both sides and the extra is a second fed engineer) on the first time through but I can see this only get harder to achieve as people learn the event more. My Feds each run the Vesta for each of their classes (so Tac is in the Tac variant, etc) and the KDFs were all in Karfi's. I hope that they do change this as I still do not like the way the accolade is achieved even though I have it.

Everybody that completed CE in the old system did not get an accolade or the trophy. It was provided only for placing first. Otherwise, it would not have been only one of my various toons that got the trophy and the accolade.

I've never healed so many non fleet members so I could add the points to get first....it promotes team play just differently.

Since there's going to be an elite version, why not just move the trophy/accolade to completing the elite a certain number of times like the accolades for finishing each of the Borg STFs a certain number of times?

Did they say there will be an Elite version?

Also, I did the safe bet: stay 9K away from that thing and take out the Tholians. I should heal others more next time though... except most likely they'd be near that Christmas ornament.

The devs are planning on doing an Elite version.
If it's fun, then I'd consider the re-design a success.

For this limited-time event, we didn't want to set the bar too high. All players should have a chance to succeed. Maybe we erred too far on the side of caution, but I'd much rather have tipped the scales to that end than to the opposite.

When the Crystalline Entity returns in the future, well after this limited-time Event has run its course, we fully intend to offer an Elite version for players that wish to have a greater challenge.

Also: We're currently investigating the bug related to the Matter Conversion Beam. Getting that to reliably deal its intended damage will raise the difficulty of the encounter a bit.

Think about it for a minute. Is healing team members for personal gain truly promoting team play?

I did this event 4 times in my Tholian carrier and each time ended up 1st place. Just heal a lot (not only yourself, also your team mates).
