The Crystalline Entity is back! Gosh I hope it is going to be a lot easier to defeat then to other one. I remember spending 2 hours 1 day trying to kill it and a few other times. LOL we never did kill it on the teams I was on.
It lost its healing and instead absorbs power which it releases in a shockwave. Things can still go south pretty hard, but the thing that made fights last forever has been removed at least.
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone

Is there a guide to the new version floating around anywhere?

During the community events on the test server, the strategy seemed to be:
1. Shoot all the things
2. When the CE is in absorbtion mode shoot all the things except the CE
3. If somebody continues shooting the CE GTFO before the shockwave
4. Resume shooting all the things
There's also a few science powers that remove its damage buff. They kept changing how that works on the test server, so I'm not actually sure how that works now.

Sounds simple enough... How can you tell when the CE goes into sucking mode?
If I remember right it gets a progress bar like the siege dreadnoughts in starbase defense. Could be misremembering and it's a boff pop up.
My sequence is hardly an ideal strategy, but without it's healing the STF PUG standard "shoot the things until there are no more things" will eventually kill it.
Well one thing is for sure, it's very pugable now. But it's so easy now, its like the original CE that there is no challenge at all. Still wish they kept in the previous version and just dumbed its regen so it was doable.
But what I HATE the most of the new CE if you want the CE accolade, you have to be in an Escort. Which means if you are a Cruiser or Science Ship Captain, tough balony if you ever want to see it.

Scoring has changed, so the bolded above is not necessarily true:
Yes. There are still trophies granted for receiving First, Second and Third place each time you run the encounter.
To head off further questions, here's some insight into how you are scored during the event:
You will be scored for each of the following, at various amount of tracked "contribution points":
* Every point of damage dealt to the Crystalline Entity
* Every point of healing given to anything on the map
* Any Tholian ship you help destroy
* Any Large Crystalline Fragment you help destroy
* Any Small Crystalline Fragment you help destroy
We attempted to work in additional scoring mechanisms for "Damage Prevented on Self" as well as something for Controls/Debuffs, but were unable to get them in and tested before the event is scheduled to go live.
Thank You, thank You, thank You for that kind of event - as not only the more unusual Scientist skills help against it but it also is neccessary to coordinate the efforts a bit. Just made 2nd place in my Vesta - but I'd of course appreciate it if more than just making damage were to count towards making it to the first ranks.

Um...
It still very heavily favours DPS ships. You can do that with a cruiser or sci or escort but it's very strongly weighted to doing dps at the expense of everything else. A decent escort is doing 8-13k dps. There's no way you're getting close to that HPS. Even within the realm of those ship types it still favours DPS heavy builds and ships that support that.
But that's beside the point.
There shouldn't be a first second or 3rd place in cooperative PVE. Ever. It is bad design and it needs to go. It completely transforms the experience of cooperation with new group of people into a competitive race against your teammates. Run any of the FA's, and you'll find people positioning themselves to do the maximum dps, even if that leaves other people to disable bases or repair facilities or whatever.
If you're the guy in the JHAS zipping around are spamming CSV and TS3 you can do the most dps and get the most points, but that won't necessarily help the team that you're shooting at the wrong time or agroing things that shouldn't be agro'd or whatever. But if you're not trying to do that you're missing out on the best loot which is the first and second place rewards.
This is a great fun new event, and it can even be done on more then one character. I was really afraid this would be an hours long fight, but 15 minutes is good.
Thank you Cryptic, and thanks for the event for it!
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.
I'm glad to see Cryptic incrementally adding new content like this, but I have to say, this event is far too easy. There's basically no way to lose as long as your team isn't afk. Also, I get a lot of graphical lag and sound effects cut out intermittently. I don't have this problem anywhere else in the game. Other than those problems, I like it. I particularly like how short the event is. It's good to have a mix of content, some that takes a long time and some that takes a short time to complete.

I don't like the new map/placement compared to the old one with the broken-up planet. Whenever I get behind the CE on this new map the atmosphere effect takes place and my entire screen turns white until I get back to the other side of the CE. Very annoying.

Last time I killed the CE was before they fixed ramming speed and anyone in a tier 4+ cruiser could just oneshot it.

It's actually both (mini-contact popup and progress bar) as well as a particle effect (though that's hard to see in all the chaos).
An astute observer may also notice that it stops launching shards and firing beams during the Absorb phase.

Nope, you only get a shard on the first go, then you have to wait until the next day...

Yep. And when they get the thing in that didn't quite make it for this patch, that will be less true. Have patience.
