Do we complain about sleeping, or any of the many other day to day things we normally do? No. So I'm going to sit back, play with my Tribble (sorry CAT) and just wait it out like 95% of the other people playing the game. :P

Well, the time waiting for the game to come back up could be used for other things. Go out and enjoy the sun, go tour the town, etc...

Or you can go and play other games while waiting. Of course if all of PWE's servers/games are being worked on just go play something else. I'd make suggestions, but I'm not plugging other games here.

except i get off work at 7am CST, and by the time this is up it will be time for me to sleep so my free time just got shot by this terrible maintence window and overly long patch cycle they choose, it seems rather excessive to me to have a 5:30 patch time, if its tested and working, just get it on the server and turn it on, but of course the 30 minutes to copy the relevant data, then another 5 hours of them "testing".

    God I hate that attitude.

My primary online/STO time is an hour before work in the morning, lunchtime where possible and, if I am lucky, an hour or two in the evening.

Today's downtime means that I won't be able to play at lunchtime, and it'll likely cut into my evening too. Do you 'hear' me having a tantrum about it?

No, because I realise that the GAME isn't all about me and what I want, that the downtime is usually a necessity and that there are other things that I can do during said downtime.

I really do tire of today's society of people who act so entitled about everything!

God I hate that attitude... Your sentence: "No, because I realise that the GAME isn't all about me..." Seriously? My Point was ONLY that it is every thursday the WHOLE free afternoon people from Europe MIGHT use to actually play. What would I care if it takes your lunchtime-playing time?! I bet a lot of people would love to have this patch aroung their lunchtime or worktime. All I am adressing here, is the anti-european patchtime, which could be solved be changing patching times OR maybe by several servers like we experience in other games, where the european area has its own running server... That way patching downtime wouldnt interfere with people actually playing...

TO your "Do you 'hear' me having a tantrum about it?" You just being here in the forum shows you are having some mental state... just like all of us being here ;) so maybe you would do yourself a favour and stop critizising people for their opinion and state arguments that are actually worth the time reading ;)

When talking about reading, thats what i will do now...
See all of you later... INGAME

The game does appear to still be down, the launcher says "Unable to authenticate", even though the home page of the game says that the server status is UP and green. Very odd...

I was looking forward to playing today, as I actually have time today to play, unlike usual, but the game doesn't want to cooperate. Please get the game back up soon.

actually they are starting the patch WAY outside of normal work hours for them - 5 am?? So that means they get up at 3-4am to head into Cryptic to start the patch - ouch!

Yeah, probably since its a long patch they're trying to get people in early so that if something goes wrong, it wouldn't start to eat into peak hours.

As an network admin I have always done major patching/upgrades/outages during non-business hours. They probably looked at the time when the fewest players are on and picked that as their "non-critical" time period.

    Hi Captains,

We will be bringing down Star Trek Online tomorrow, Thursday, April 11th, at 5AM PDT (click here to view in your timezone) for maintenance and to apply a new patch. Patch notes can be found here, and we expect this maintenance to last for 5 hours and 30 minutes. The test server may also be unavailable during this time.

Thanks for your patience and understanding,

    - The Star Trek Online Team

I understand that maintenance takes time, but it's pretty inconvenient for the European players.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

This is what I'm going to listen to as I engage the Entity for the first time: http://ds9.trekcore.com/audio/audio/emissary/2-wolf359.mp3

    :D

A tune for your first encounter with the new CE..hmm...

Maybe the boss encounter music from FF7? or maybe 'Dare' (and gods no, not the horrible travesty Linkin park one they laughingly call a 'homage' - heck may just cue up the entire transformers 2006 animated movie ost :) )

..eh, I'll likely play my 'music to kick butt to' playlist..a bit of Lordi, Iron maiden, Bolthrower....

I don't get why it takes 5 1/2 hours to do minor changes, I understand the last week 6 hours since there was some huge changes. What are they doing in these 5 and a 1/2 hours? Uploading the new changes and eating some burgers and a nice cold Coca Cola ;)

Anyway, in no offence, could you all stop moaning here seriously, I am getting utterly fedup with you guys saying "No, this attitude is this and that"! Your being just like a Vulcan!

PS: I am not moaning for STO downtime, I understand this is a really hard game to code ;) Good luck and hopefully it will not take the estimated time!

Doubtful, Red alerts get busted every time they add a patch. Either fix them or remove, quit d...g around...

So they should do it at a time that would suit Euro-players but would be inconveinient to US players - probably their primary playerbase?

Let's face it, they can't really win - there isn't a time that they CAN take the server(s) down without it upsetting one of the game's demographics.

the Europeans don't think about this at all, lets face facts here, the larger Star Trek fan base is in the US, Star Trek in general did worse in other parts of the world, all series and movies, thats just a simple fact, so it stands to reason the user base is also larger in North America than in other parts of the world, get used to it. Canadians and American's are the most hard core dedicated and largest group of trekkers and trekkies period :D
