Hi Captains,

We will be bringing down Star Trek Online tomorrow, Thursday, April 11th, at 5AM PDT (click here to view in your timezone) for maintenance and to apply a new patch. Patch notes can be found here, and we expect this maintenance to last for 5 hours and 30 minutes. The test server may also be unavailable during this time.

Thanks for your patience and understanding,

- The Star Trek Online Team

Ah, bugger. Usually I don't mind the few hours downtime, even though I live in mainland Europe. But 5.5 hours, from 2pm to 7:30... that sucks hardcore. And most of the time I'm the one preaching reason to all them complaining smegheads. :(

This is what I'm going to listen to as I engage the Entity for the first time: http://ds9.trekcore.com/audio/audio/emissary/2-wolf359.mp3

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

Beam: Fire-at-Will no longer drains more Weapon Energy than intended.

Just to clear it up: lets say I have 2 Beams fore and 2 beams aft, And if I have 6 enemies dead ahead, and 6 behind, I loose about 50% of my Weapon power.

But if I have all 12 enemies ahead and none behind. I should loose 25% of my Weapon power, since only half of my weapons are firing. But until the patch I think I could have been loosing the 50% as if I had enemies behind.

Sounds like a good time to do some maintenance around here.

Hmm - no - they have not learned the Scotty trick yet - say it will take 8 hours and have it done in 5.

It could turn out to be an 8 hr patch.

In fairness, in the 6 months I've been here, a patch/maintenance cycle has ended on time at least three whole times. Maybe even four.

    Place your bets accordingly.

5 to 10:30? Does this maintenance involve a Remmler Array?

Problem is, if it takes more time -and it nearly always does-

it could end up keeping server offline until First Contact Day/Day of Honor end

with the off beginning during Europe time 2 PM.

This would cut the last day of the Event for all European folks. :(

Considering their precedents, they should have thought about doing this in another time window.

After all, not every day is the First Contact or Honor Day with relative rewards.

You know, extraordinary situations needs extraordinary measures.

Anyway, you're doing a great work on the game. ;)
I still dream from time to time about using the Gateway to doff off-game in spare minutes as we were told

I've been in the game for a little over a year now and I never did Crystalline Entity. Not once. The horror failure stories were quite discouraging, to say the least.

Should I be glad or sorry?

I'd say glad. Tried it once and gave up after one hour of minimal progress. Can't wait to give it a try after patch.

I have to say: Your guys timing is just aweful... Today i was hoping to get home from work early and might do some gaming BEFORE the patch... you guys ruined that... Now I see it is 5 hours in my timezone and I wonder, why you guys cant do this like from 08am to 1pm MET when most people work over here? Or like soemtimes?

Because they do it when they are at work and you don't pay them enough to make them work overtime.

Well, the time waiting for the game to come back up could be used for other things. Go out and enjoy the sun, go tour the town, etc...

Or you can go and play other games while waiting. Of course if all of PWE's servers/games are being worked on just go play something else. I'd make suggestions, but I'm not plugging other games here.

No stability and disconnect fix? Since the last patch, the only time I have been stable in game is when someone has a saucer seperation, or other unique ship power. Before last thursday I was stable the whole time. Now, if someone I'm playing with doesnt have saucer sep. or unique ship powers, its just laggy and disconnects.

The Entity Rep is just way cool! Thanks.

5 1/2 hour downtime, seriously, you had better not stick with tradition and actually get this one right. The usual balls up after this amount of downtime is getting old..

And I am glad to see "General server stability" is not mentioned since that is usually a neon arrow to "Somethings gonna crash soon"

Something is wrong with the launcher.

Usually when there's a patch, the launcher allows you to login and stat the game (but upon playing, it can't pull up our characters).

This time, it appears I can't even login to use Tribble. This is quite the disappointment. First Tribble crashes (repeatedly I might add), now the launcher won't let you login.

Well, back to Star Trek: Bridge Commander.

Tribble may be offline aswell, or the entire login system while the upgrade is going on

Probably are putting in Hardware Changes too. That would explain the longer downtime.
