I occasionally see players in PvP with unfortunately named ships or characters. Unfortunately, if they are on the other team, it is rather difficult to report them as you cannot right click. Is there some easy way I am missing or is this a bad design by Cryptic?
Typing out their name is not very effective. You might only see them on the screen for a few seconds and they might have a very long handle. If you mistype, the whole report is useless.
We are all annoyed by all the Normandies, but surely reporting it is a bit harsh?
I suspect that OP is more concerned with captains named after Austrian corporals or procreative acts rather than ships named Normandy, ENTARPRIZE, or Serenity

really?? just leave it be this has been going on for eons find something else to worry about don't be a naming naz...errr ....one of those guys
Open a ticket. State all the information you have, such as approximate time, what map you were in, etc. The GMs can see who else was in that match.
Remember that you won't get any feedback on what action, if any, was taken; just a form letter stating they have received your submission and are looking into it, and possibly one or more followup emails if they have any questions to help with the investigation (rare).

In PvP, if I see an Enterprize, it is the first thing I lock my disruptors on to. It might possibly violate the TOS, but it is hardly something I am concerned with.
I am talking about names which I think a reasonable person would find to be extremely crude, misogynistic, or outright hate speech.
I'm even willing to let the U.S.S. I TRIBBLE in your General Direction get a pass. However, once in a while (usually on the weekends) I see names that are clearly beyond the pale, violating not only Cryptics TOS but also decorum and human decency.

Thanks. I figured that if the GM's don't get the actual handle in the report they won't bother to do the legwork necessary to find out who the problem was with. Of course, I have no idea how thorough the investigations are, so I could be making an erroneous assumption.
I saw a ship with a blatantly obscene name, he must have done something to trick the filter, it was that blatant. Screen it, upload to your hosting site, open a support ticket, reward yourself with a cookie
I'm guessing that you feel impinged upon by their conservative morals??
I'm not saying you shouldn't be ...,
... but perhaps a more delicate manner would get the point across, without bringing down 'The Wrath of Mods' upon yourself?

While this isn't as exaggerated a complaint as some had about male chars in cropped jackets, I still think going so far as to report someone over your pet aesthetic peeves is silly. Only you can grow thicker emotional skin for yourself.
I'll sell you some weapons from New Romulus. Never fired, only dropped once.

Quite frankly I find your busybody attitude a bit disturbing .
It's not that I don't understand it -- I too felt the urge to stomp a player with a ship named after a modern day terrorist organization , but at the end of the day it's not my business to police the internetz .
See the next day someone else will come along and report me for 'Miss Piggy' (offensive against women ?) and 'Speedy Gonzales' (racial slur ?) .
See , perceived offenses are everywhere ... .

Well, it is not just a question of whether I find something offensive. It is a question of whether a reasonable person, especially one who might be personally targeted by a slur, would find it offensive. If I think a reasonable person would find it offensive, I do report it. I have been playing quite a bit lately and I usually report one or two offensive names a month.
If someone were to name their ship I.S.S. Hitler, would that be considered offensive, or show-accurate roleplay?
I think it would be the type of thing that might be considered a criminal offense in parts of the EU, so I would steer clear of it for what should be obvious reasons.
I really don't understand how people feel they have a right to not be offended.
Players certainly do have a right to play this game without being subject to harassment due to their gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or ethnicity and PWE has rightfully made it a violation of their terms of service for players to do so.
Additionally, PWE has a legal obligation to make a reasonable attempt to follow all the laws of all the nations where it does business, which includes the EU, where hate speech is considered a criminal act in many countries.
Even here in the good old US of A, I do not believe that telling the judge, "she doesn't have a right to not be offended," is going to save you or your company from being liable for a harassment or civil rights lawsuit.
In PvP, if I see an Enterprize, it is the first thing I lock my disruptors on to. It might possibly violate the TOS, but it is hardly something I am concerned with.
Enterprise violates the TOS, but Enterprize doesn't. Even though they tried to tack in on to the lineage of Enterprse ships, the H.M.S. Enterprize is part of a totally different tradition than the United States vessels, Navy or NASA.
It's even sadder that Star Trek didn't acknowledge the first five sail powered US Naval vessels, the motorized patrol ship in WWI or the WWII CV-6 Yorktown class carrier. I'll allow them to not to have mentioned the CV-80 Gerald Ford class that's supposed to be launched in 2025.
I'm not injured by it. I dont particularly like it when people pee in the pool for the sake of their own amusement. I figure they do it to get a reaction, so I oblige them. Then they cry about it and I laugh.

Your stress is your own. Get over it.
My God, people. What is wrong with us?? Why are we such sniveling whimps in this day and age??
This thread has now most definitely run its course, and isn?t providing any civilized discussion, so due to this as well as high number of flaming/trolling posts and/or reported posts in this thread, I'm closing this thread down.
For future reference please remember that it helps a great deal when posts which violate the PWE Community Rules and Policies are not responded to and are reported via submitting a Forums and Website Ticket (click here).
If you think any of your posts within a thread have violated the PWE Community Rules and Policies, please edit your posts before a moderator takes action.
If you feel you need to get in touch with PWE BranFlakes to discuss the actions taken by any Community Moderator, you can do so by submitting a Forums and Website ticket (click here).
