Starbases kill small fleet

Fine work Craptic. You made it that the fleet of my heart gave up by joining another fleet with a higher tier status cause we cant do all that farm stuff with 8 ppl like a fleet with 150+ members. Thanks for that.
Btw. fleets with a high tier are selling access to fleet stuff and getting richer and richer. There is no place for small fleets anymore, no place for fun just grinding and one must be part of a big fleet to get access to those fleetshield stuff what is necessary in pvp or buy the access to that for Millions of ec.
Is ist that what you want Dev's? Kill the fun in this game? Force ppl to be part of a huge fleet instead of a small one with a familiar atmosphere and ideals?

Thats it i'll leave this game now.

It's "Massively multiplayer" not "merely multiplayer". There should be advantages for larger groups.

small, active, willing-to-donate fleets can still achieve anything a large fleet can

    just slower

and when you do get there, you'll feel more ownership over your success than you would if you were in a big fleet.

    I do not agree...
I think building the base and the embassy shoul be much less expensive than now (it's not only a matter of time)... only provvisioning should be expensive so that a small fleet and a large fleet can have the same chance to build their base/embassy.

Large fleet can be advantaged by special project to improve the base/embassy look or buffs or some secondary function (ex. lower transwarp CD, or transwarp to some more destinations... commodities seller, research labs...).

    Oh they have small fleets?

    That's quaint.

You know, you could apply for the 12th Fleet, which is the large fleet with the small fleet feel... :D

Although it is tough I wouldn't say that small fleets are dying of these starbases, I started a new fleet less than one month ago and we are just coming up for T2 upgrades now and we have a little over 100 characters on the roster some of which are alts.

We reached T1 in 10 days with only 30 characters on the roster including alts so... hardly dying, we're still growing

i agree it does become very hard and expensive for smaller fleets. We have about fourty people total in ours, but outta everyone that is active it is basically me and the leader who do all the donating. It does become a grind, and an expensive one at that, but on the other hand it also gives me something to do. So yea, wish it was just a TAD easier for smaller fleets, but it is what it is.

A fleet of 8 grinders can get further then a fleet of 40 of which only 2 donate. See below

    On that note

We have a core of roughly 10 people in my fleet. Except we're all grinders and donate to the fleet. We're not growing as fast as the larger fleets in the game. But, we're also not in a rush...

people cried for another set of goals to throw resources at to get better stuff.
the starbase, embassy and rep system is exactly that.

much easier goal than balanced diverse endgame systems with multiple directions of specialisation that doesnt give clear gear advantage.

I'm sorry, but being told that you'll have to grind for a minimum of a year, and at maximum a hell of a lot longer than that (assuming you put all XP projects on cooldown once per day, and have the upgrades firing off as soon as they're available) to reap the rewards of a system is in no way shape or form an acceptable situation.

Indeed - one of the main problems that makes it hard for small fleets is dilithium - unless the leader or hes friends happen to be heavy cash users and just buy the dilithium.

At current speed, the fleet im in will reach tier 4 in about 2 years.

All the other resources are ok - all the projects slow down and get stuck behind dilithium.

So what would a normal player do? join a random cheap fleet, get soem fleet credit - then leave and look for a T4/T5 large fleet.

If you are in a small fleet and is needing of fleet gear but do not have a high enough tier to get what you want, there is an ingame solution already.

    1. Get provisions for what you need from your own starbase.
    2. Get invited to a fleetstarbase which is sufficiently advanced for the gear you want.
    3. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR FLEET
    4. Use the fleet starbase facillities to buy your gear, using YOUR provisions

    Example:

Player A of Family Fleet needs Elite Fleet Weapons, he requests an invite tfrom Player B of Giant Fleet to Giant Fleet`s starbase.

Player A buys gear from Giant FLeet Starbase using Family Fleet Provisions.

Player A is geared! Player A did not leave Family Fleet.

how is that ingame solution already?
provisions are not personal - they belong to the fleet.
You cant access another fleet stores without leaving your own fleet.

The "giant" fleets dont invite people - they sell access for huge amounts of EC - enriching the leader and hes friends but not the whole fleet even further.

For ships, yes. For everything else, no. All you need to do for those (fleet weapons/shields/deflectors/engines plus embassy boffs/doffs/consoles) is get invited into the starbase/embassy of a fleet that has unlocked said items. From there, you spend your own FCs and Dilith, and consume your own fleets provisions.

Note: I am in no way saying that the availability of out-of-fleet purchases is a solution to the underlying issue of ridiculously prohibitive fleet holding progression. Merely pointing out that there does exist a mechanism to purchase things you haven't unlocked yet from those who have.

Read again, Player A uses Family Fleets Provisons to buy from Player Bs giant fleets starbase.

THATS RIGHT, you dont have to be a part of giant fleet to buy in giant fleets starbase.

You just need to be invited to their map.

There are lots of giant fleet type fleet which invite players for free to use their facilities, theres a whole channel for that which invites to embassys amd starbases which can be used for this.

Form fleet alliences, you dont have to disband your small group to be gearedup, you dont need to pay an extraoribtant amount of ec and dill as donation either.

Just find a friend, its an mmo. Shouldnt be hard.

    This is my position also.

Just pointing out something in the system the people in small fleets can use.

At the end of the day your own membership "killed" your fleet. There are certainly options contrary to growing a small fleet but the onus is on you to at least find like-minded members who are in it for the long haul. On the other hand had you considered recruiting or looking for new members? If you really have a good atmosphere there are a lot of people who would be attracted to a friendly, no drama environment.

Why should I make my Fleet Holdings available? People just will just shop my stores empty.

Well, this issue was one of the major concerns. So we tested it. As it turns out, people will be able to use your Fleet Stores, BUT if they do purchase something, they will use their OWN Fleet provisions to do so. So all in all, you are completely safe.

Thank you for sharing this link. :D It's awesome to see players out there who are not trying to fleece others.

    yeah, i know right? :D

shame it doesnt extend to ships, but at least if this model stays the course, at least you can focus on Millitary to get Fleet Ship Access, and rely on friendly bigger fleets for the rest of your gearing up.

Hypothetically, its an advantage to small fleets as, you only have to be able to provision for yourself and use the other friendly big fleets facillities for actual buying.

Question, does this open up the Odyssey Uniforms too?

I'd assume so. Those don't even require provisions to buy.

All good and well with going to a other fleetbase and use your fleet stuff there.
But it still doesn't help out the main problem of completing the fleetbase it self.
That problem is still dilithium : your in a fleet you got a starbase you want to compleet it.
This still kills small fleet because of the hassel of going to difrent fleet base every time you need somthing people just will not do that.

The agrovating thing is every thing being put in new in sto will cost Dilithium and not a little bit 28k for mk 12 wapons for your ship in the new reputation thing 28k x6 beams as a minimum for a cruiser you can only rifine 8k a day.

Thanks. The Phoenix Division will find this very useful. We're only T3 right now.
