Nein. Nyet. No. I'm an escort-level pilot, and I still say no. There's enough problems with overpowering burst DPS, without making it even easier to achieve via an ensign-level rapidfire ability.

Would like also AtSIF on engineering ensign as well ? to complement your Escort Online style of ship ?

I say YES to Rapid Fire at Ensign. The beam equivalent (Beam Overload) exists at Ensign, why not Rapid Fire?

I'm hardly an advocate of escorts, however, since T1 Miranda class ships can load dual cannons, and beam overload exists at ensign, why not? It would provide a bit of variety for the lower tier ships.

I would rather that all ensign slots be Universal.

Because beam overload only affects one weapon for one firing and does absurd drain that cripples all the rest of your weapons in the process.

But if you wanna change it so CRF only boosts 1 of your DHCs and only for one volley, then yeah dropping it to ensign might be fair.

Otherwise, the OP I wonder if he's just trolling the current trend in cruiser-vs-escort threads (probably).

Drop all abilities to Ensign, so it's Ensign 1, Lieutenant 2, and Lieutenant Commander 3. For Commander ranked BOFF slots, allow them to select a Captain ability.

    Discuss.

edit: To clarify, mind you, it would only be a Captain ability through Commander rank.

    Tac - APA, FoMM, TI
    Eng - RSF, EPS, NI
    Sci - Scan, SNB, Scattering

or just make rank 4 powers for commander slots

Or create a new set of Commander powers, that are only available at commander level. So then it's just Ensign, Lt, Lt. Commander possessing rank 1 2 and 3 of all the variety of powers, and Commander becomes something different.

Would fix a lot of the BOFF headaches for both developers AND players.

it would benefit some cruiser and science builds, but it would need a downfall to explain why CRF1 is better then CRF0.

    I'm all for it.

I would even go one step further and turn Rapid Fire, Scatter Volley, Fire At will and Overload into universal energy weapon powers, availlable for Beam Weapons and Cannons likewise.

Personally i find some powers, like Scatter Volley much more handy than Fire at Will for my playstyle. You can control much more the area your weapons will fire at, in contrast to Fire at will which just fires "at everything" in sight.
Similar for Overload vs. Rapid fire, the chance for a complete miss with Beam Overload is way too high for my taste. So i end up using Cannon weapons on all my ships, just because the availlable Beam Weapon powers are not as good as Cannon powers.

In my opinion the seperation of Beam/Cannon weapons and their different start level is just too arbitrarily and doesn't make really sense to me.

On the other hand, it would open up a lot of diversity for everyone if all those powers where availlable at ensign level and for all energy weapon types.

This seems to work out a lot better for escorts than other ship classes and also sidesteps issues regarding beams...

What exactly is the point of this suggestion anyways?

How about we just up the DPS on cannons and have done with it? Remove the whole cannon rapid fire idea, since everyone runs at least level 1 all the time.
