Please Make Special Event DOffs Reclaimable

ussfuryussfury Member Posts: 142 Arc User
Please leave a post in this thread if you have gotten a special event DOff (Exocomp, Reman, etc.) and lost him though the course of performing DOff missions and would like the opportunity to reclaim them.

[edit] to address the concerns about "never ending reclaimable DOffs" as an exploit, I suggest being to claim one special DOff, once a year. If you loose your DOff during the course of the year (or even during the event itself) you need to wait until next year to get a replacement. And then again, not if you already have one on your roster.

I am seeing a lot of scattered messages about people loosing Exocomps and the like during standard DOff missions. Why can't we reclaim them? I can understand limiting us to having one, but why not set it up like the IDIC Tribble "vendor' where you just get the "you can only have one of these" message if he is still on your roster?

Yes, I know we should be careful when assigning DOffs to missions, but some folks have just had the bad luck of a mission disaster or other unfortunate event happen and lost their DOs though no fault of their own.

We can't sell them. We can only have one. We can only get them once a year for only a few days. What is the harm in making them available for multiple redemption?

[edit] and I say "pseudo" petition 'cause it's not like were angrily demanding it or will go on strike, but we just want to be heard since it just makes no sense not to reclaim them.

I can agree with this. It does kinda make sense.

Well, it used to be that the mortality threshhold was set byt the risk factor of the assignment. At one time missions with "Extreme" risk could kill ANY doff. They usually didn't. But it could happen. But that got fixed (thankfully), now the only missions that kill green or better specifically say so.

Given the potential exploits this would open up, it's not going to happen.

The exception to this, (which has always been the case) are mission with RED TEXT that warn you will loss the Doff in question (e.g. Execute for Incompetence, Officer Exchange). But even then, the only way to lose a Purple Doff is if you want to, or refuse to read the warning...

I support the idea completely but we all know it wont happen, fixing this would take time away from new monetizing projects.

Well yeah so they still can't die on normal mission, just wen you want to send them to the grinder to get Dil, so if they allowed you to reclaim the doff over and over one could just keep killing them over and over like a Cylon?

Or, like me, send the DOff on a "escort a shapeshifting prisoner to Starfleet security" where the red text was off screen, hidden at the bottom of the scrolling mission description.

I am pretty careful with my DOffs, but the mission said "escort", not "hand over" or "turn in" so I was assuming I needed an capable officer to escort the shapeshifter. Not that my officer WAS a shapeshifter.

Now I see the mission has the shapeshifter in a bucket as a consumable to hand in. Much easier to understand and you don't loose your DO.

And what mission kills BOs for dil and what prevents people from just killing off blues for dil? is there no ooldown? I mean, you can only get the event DO for a few days a year and a 20 to 24 hour cooldown would allow you to do it, what, 4 or five times? Hardly a game breaking exploit.

When you can do them for no cost, repeatedly, across every single character you had better believe it would add up. Not to mention the pile of Doffs you could magically create (and subsequently do all manner of things with) by repeatedly putting your inexhaustible supply of regenerating doffs through the Doff-grinder.

Even if you can't sell them, being able to Transfer them as Changelings means it would be exploitable if you could freely reclaim them. Attaching a Dilithium cost to the reclaim should fix that though.

Whatever Lt. Ferra charges for a purple is probably a good starting point.

What missions are these? What they are instantly done missions? I must admit, I tend to just hang in sector space and in and around space docks so I don't know all the DO missions, by a long shot.

Ok, perhaps not immediately replaceable, but at least give us a chance to reclaim them again next year.

Basically you can claim one, once per year. If you loose it during the year (or even during that years event) you need to wait until next year to get it again.

    Boom! solved.

[edit] Edited original post to reflect this condition of reclamation.

We don't allow petition threads, but this is still good feedback, so I've edited it to not be a petition. Please continue your discussion.

Off the top of my head: changeling infiltrator, execute for incompetence, doff-grinders, cultural exchanges.

Once you get a handle on what missions spawn where, it isn't too hard to put together a flight plan for alts to efficiently shuttle them around to the prime doffing grounds.

Infiltrator and incompetence aren't really worth putting in a VR doff, the grinder won't take bound doffs, thus your only real issue would be the doff exchanges.

    Hey thanks Syberghost. :)

Yeah, as I said it wasn't a "raaagh nerd rage petition grrrr!" type of thing, but a thread to ask for a change.

Wouldn't it just be simpler to code it so that purple doffs cannot be used for these "handover" type missions? That way there is no exploit, no petitions to answer and no threads on the forums to go through?

    Completely opposed.

If a mission says YOU WILL LOSE THIS DOFF and you stick it in anyway, that means you will lose this DOFF.

No, you don't get a freebie so Execute Changeling Spy is easier. Absolutely no.

Even when the " you will lose this doff!" text is hidden and it doesn't say "execute" but says " escort" changeling spy?

Cause I'm not a stupid man and can read and I still made the mistake. Hell, I even had it in my head that an Exocomp would be a perfect security escort because a changeling spy would have a hard time overpowering him and then pretend to be him.

If you really want the Exocomp duty officer, there is an unbound version that fell from the Gamma Quadrant duty officer packs. If you look under Very Rare Maintenance Engineers on the exchange, you can find about 20 of them at about 15 million Energy Credits each.

I made a post like this like a year ago on the DOFF forum, after a friend lost his Gul Tain (Unique DOFF mission reward) when he accidentally used it for an exchange mission.

I asked Borticus to make Unique DOFFs have special indicator so you don't accidentally get rid of it. And that it wasn't able to be used on missions that get rid of DOFFs (like Exchange Missions).

Once you lose a Unique DOFF, you'll never get another again.

I can see making certain DOffs being ineligible for "kill" missions, but hopefully just having access to it once a year would do the trick.

I would love a list of the specials and where to get them as I dont know if I have all of them. I only recently started to give them love.
