Im starting move to Cruisers are fine if built right camp.
I and four or five other Raptors and battle cruisers fought a single Cruiser in Kerrat yesterday and it not only killed me in the combat but survived handily to the point that it escaped the others and lived.
I can only believe it was piloted by its captain that knew how to use his build properly.
    so what was his build

I think this is a huge part of the problem, people that fly cruisers don't want to use them as the game intends. The 98% are ignorant and wilfully remain ignorant.

There are very specific ways to make them good, and most of the ways make them.. terrible. They probably could be a little more forgiving between the two points, and more methods to make them not suffer to sub-par damage then exist. For a game about customization, cruisers must follow a narrow build to get where they need to be.

Sorry Blake, you are wrong. It is a straight up damage boost to multiple targets, it used to divided damage.. in S3 or 4 maybe. You need to actually look at damage logs, check out the damage a CSV does, low/high/median.

What many average escort players don't get, when you look at what they did, their turrets do as much damage as their cannons. Their CRF3 is a fraction of the damage a CSV1 does.

Single target burst damage is pretty much irrelevant in STFs, different in pvp, but in stfs its not the way to go. I have never seen an stf log where someone using rapid fire was even close to the top.

I find csv to be a bit misleading as far as damage is concerned.

For example, In ise the nanite transformers are about 9km apart. and 90 degrees wide from the one you are shooting. The generator in the middle cannot be kill but still receives the damage and instantly heals it. While the damage log may count the damage to your dps it is still effectively 0 that means the most you can do is shoot the one right in front of you and try to hit the one 9 km away as long as the line of sight is not blocking it. At the end of the map once you can kill the gate and the tac cube pops out most people can focus fire on one or the other and rarely do both at the same time. The only time csv is effective is when you are fighting the mob of spheres that pop out.

In cse the only time csv is effective is when you are are shooting the bops and raptors. When you are at a cube and you are shooting probes the best you can do is 2 probs at a time. If you hit the cube or the other probes again the dps is counted but any damage done is instantly healed. also if you use csv while one of the lower probes are out and you pop one of the uppers by mistake that can be bad and sloppy if the team isn't ready for it. THere are many times where in a pug group I have to deal with raptors and negvars from another cube because they could not handle them on their own and died. At the carrier at the end while yes there is a mob you will do more damage with a crf targeting the main carrier because as soon as the carrier is dead the mob disappears anyway whether you shoot them or not.

In Ka the same thing applies as the setup in ise for the gates. During the encounter with Donatra the tractor probes usually come out when she is cloaked. the only time where it is effective is if you are on probe duty.

You can argue that csv takes care of borg hyt and that is true but due to torpedo pathing my Romulan hyper plasma follows the same course back and they collide canceling each other out since both are target-able.

Yes CSV does report more damage and in other PvE encounters it makes sense but due to the regenerative nature of the stfs the dps in the conmbat logs are misleading and the effective dps is much lower.

If I wanted to I could park my ship directly behind the gate at 9.97 km away in ise the whole time and get an awesome dps log while the team kills everything else. I could be afk but it will still look like I'm shooting with out contributing and the gate still at full health.

CSV and BFaW both suffer from auto-healed damage, but still, even hitting 2 targets is more effective than 1.

CSV has a very odd mechanic, I was going to post on it another time.
The game assumes that you shoot at a target from 0 degrees, but if you are on the edge of your arc, it will hit all the enemies far outside your arc as well, definitely buggy, giving cannons far greater range than they should.

If this holds true, then it's very useful information. Thank you. \:)/ Does the range still have an effect on the damage output?
