Wow, that's amazing what you can deduct from a picture !
Yes, in the same way that someone else can deduce that that single picture means there will "definitely" be a playable Romulan faction in may.
My prediction is based on the Hidden Camera cut scene where Unseen Ones begin trying to impose on D'tan and insinuate they aren't done yet combined with the end cut scene from the last T5 rep mission. The Tal Shiar still operating are desperate for leads to old Iconian tech that could give them another chance for power. Just seems the Romulan thing to do.

I still think the Romulan faction will only span on a few level, and then have to choose between both faction. I'd say that's the reason why D'Tan was added to the game, because he is an ally of both faction.
It would require less ressources, since 3/4 of the content would already be ingame.
Same here, combined with the reworked KDF tutorial this would make sense.
I wonder, IF the romulans come, do they come for free? do they bring their own ships for higher levels or do we depend on our 0.35% chance-luck for a lockbox warbird?
Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
This however, is not only what's best for this game, it's what Cryptic NEEDS to do.
1) So you can max out Omega and Romulan rep in under 60 days?
2) So you're saying Cryptic does need to focus on endgame? Because then developer lower level content for other factions IS a distraction from that.
I think the current system is probably worse than either starting KDF at level 1 or starting KDF at level 50 and tends to create orphaned KDF alts. Starting at level 50 would create a more active (but less committed) KDF.

They said no to a romulan gamblebox because of a romulan faction. I'm sure they would include some of the ship for "free", while probably some from Cstore.
Maybe they'll make a romulan faction pack, with more ship/race option, for some amount of z point. For example pack 1 with romulan only, mogai escort, pack 2 with remans and romulan, D'deridex, pack 3 with the same as above + hirogen and scimitar.
Maybe as costume unlock . IE you fly an armitage, but it looks like a D'deridex. Same stats, different skin. Which is likely if they fly with the feds or klingon.

We need the Tal Shiar side as a hostile wing for PVP and RP/fiction reasons. And they are part of the 3/4 too, since they already have content in the pre-New Romulus arc. All that's needed for RSE is a home planet (spawn point for faction players) which already exists according to the tooltip screens. And boom there is your third faction, with a three-legged stool of combat and alliances.
The group-huggers that aligned with D'Tan on New Romulus are a splinter group, not representing the empire. Bring us the Empire.
Actually imma just come out and say it, New Romulus was a mistake. It kiind of springs up from nowhere after the story arc ends, and hey there's that Reman guy with the forbidden WMDs who was trying to kill me, now he's my buddy. And they have this massive rep system with weapons and everythying, but the ships aren't sold anywhere. Its just all a mess.
Let Sela come back and take over New Romulus. Everybody with rep points is now aligned with Tal Shiar. Good day
I'm with the "it's there to be there but faction is still a ways off" crowd. Whoever they have working on gateway was probably told to go ahead and implement romulan stuffs for the future as so far it's really the only sure thing for additional factions.
I don't believe in any romulan faction speculation. It's practically guaranteed to exist eventually via dev commentary, and it'll have to been worked on for quite some time if it's due out in May. Dev commentary does not support the may theory but they could have been hiding their intent extremely well when discussing tidbits about the faction, taking care to make it sound like it's planned but a long ways off. That doesn't mean they won't suddenly decide to rush it out and half TRIBBLE it like they did with the klingons. Frankly, I would choose that method if it gets me romulans sooner than later. shrug. I need things to do while I wait years for real progress in between all the money grab content that's disguised as normal, honest content additions, like rep/starbase/embassy systems.
We will hopefully know by March 21's whether or not it's going to be a Romulan faction, but I'm 90% sure there will be. All these naysayers are just jaded garbage spewers. Cryptic has added 40+ people to their staff since f2p and we really haven't seen much from them yet, which tells me that we're going to see something HUGE coming. A team of 40 people can basically make an entirely new game in a year.
That could just be the file name the OP gave it before posting it.
Clearly, you have no idea how URLs work. The STO Gateway is a database created and maintained by Cryptic. I can't "give" filenames to anything because I'm not an employee. There are three "Choose_Faction" files on the STO Gateway:

All of this bickering and speculation is irrelevant. Without more facts to support either side speculation is futile.
How the Devs see Star Trek, apparently:
Star Trek: The Original Grind
Star Trek: The Next Grind
Star Trek: Deep Space Grind
Star Trek: Voyage to the Grind
I did say maybe in a somewhat tongue in cheek manner. But it wouldn't be the first time they made the player base unhappy now would it, with teasing and false promises. (cough...KDF...cough)
I've already said, I think that this "evidence" is either an artifact or a placeholder. Either way, on it's own, it means very little and to be very honest, I'll have to physically see this new faction, to believe it.

Only time will tell.
There were supposedly other "artifacts" in the Foundry a couple of weeks ago.
Now, maybe it will be monster play. But given the dev talk about how what they'd do with a Romulan faction would redefine what a faction is, well...
My provision is that it may not happen in the May update. But it will be setup in the May update and I think it will be announced in 10 days.
Actually, I think it will be announced in PWE's investor report in around 7-8 days. We just won't get dev clarification for 10 days.

I think Cryptic's attitude is:
A) That it is. There's months of play in it.
That endgame is more likely to get bigger than anything else is and that focusing on anything else is a distraction.
Same here, combined with the reworked KDF tutorial this would make sense.

Not exactly.

Doesn't mean I'm going to stick around to do it.
Only if you lock higher levels out of that content.
God, lvl 60 CW. 17k.
Do you think the game is actually targeted at people who won't?
it does not confirm it for may. perhaps its another little tick in the 'sooner rather than later' column but not concrete.
Perhaps I should rephrase that; Doesn't mean my wallet will stick around.

Other permutations like "Dominion," "Borg," and "Terran" yield nothing. Common sense, people. Faction in May or some time after.
Let's just see what happens in 10 days or so.
looking forward to the next group of people that will begin to feel what the KDF has to indure since launch...
just saying..

What sense would it make to spread disinformation that will make players unhappy?
It is absolutely delusional at this point to think Cryptic isn't planning a Romulan faction.
The only real questions are how much of a faction and when.
I've already said, I think that this "evidence" is either an artifact or a placeholder. Either way, on it's own, it means very little and to be very honest, I'll have to physically see this new faction, to believe it.

In really big letters with some cool background graphics, it will say...
ROMULAN FACTION: COMING TO STAR TREK ONLINE, SUMMER 2019
