Maybe it's my inner pessimist, but I can't shake the thought in the back of my mind that the phrase "some will fall" is a reflection of an internal cryptic acknowledgement that some players aren't going to like what's coming, and may well quit.
Defera have a Invasion Zone, it also have a utter useless social zone since there arent even basic services there and unless you are buying snowtubes or whatever those are called there isnt any point of beaming there ... heck Risa even have a discount commodity vender.
Also Defera Invasion Zone and Defera Social are have very different map layouts, nothing says they are the same area (since they cannot be unless the Borg as they were at it made some serious urban renewal) but the main issue is this.
New Romulan is NOT a social area, its a adventure zone like Defara Invasion Zone and Nukara.
So why would you want two zones? also for example, if it goes kaput why I haz a embassy there? is it on a timewarp or something?
More important ... why? are you people THAT incapable of coming up with something new and so it must be something we seen because clearly its impossible to create a whole new map and attach it to a planet, I mean its not like we dont HAVE plenty of systems with nothing there on the Romulan section ...
So why New Rom,ulus? I mean was D'Tan even in the game before Season 7? what is the point of destroying something FOR the sake of destroying something as being unable to CREATE something?
This is madness ... its wrecking something JUST because you cannot make something new so WHAT IS THE POINT?
SO its real? was the destruction of Romulus not real enough? Do you people want to stuck the Romulans as the Iconians puppets to torpedo a Romulan faction so hard its impossible for it to exist after without coming across as totally out of place, something WORST the KDF that was what caused the faction to have serious content issues? So the KDF can have a duet when it complains about no ships, no content and how its all Fed only?
Again whats the point? Do you people really want to fly a D'deridex as a Fed or KDF so badly that you are sabotaging it so we get a Romulan lock box?
Whats the point really to destroy New Romulus?
Also my argument about paradoxes have a hole, so far nobody seem to have found it.
I think you're missing the point the people that said that wanted to make.
Romulans have always been xenophobic, secretive, devious species. They don't want outsiders and keep to themselves.
Now D'Tan is founding a "New Romulus" together with Remans and while they're at it, they share their unique tech. and knowledge with Starfleet and KDF through the embasies and the Romulan rep. system.
If Sela suposedly ever returns (big hints about this with Denise Crosby voiceovers) with the regular RSE and possibly some new allies, this makes New Romulus a prime target. Not Qo'noS, not Earth, because imo the RSE will want to deal with these "outcasts" that give access to Romulan technology to Starfleet and KDF first. It would go well with the story so far.
No one says that New Romulus would be destroyed or useless in STO any more. I'd reckon that Starfleet and the KDF are fully capable of fighting the good fight to protect them. But, I can really see the possibility of FEs around the topic of Sela & RSE trying to take over New Romulus.
P.S. Believe me, if Cryptic makes a Romulan faction it won't be D'Tan's, because actually that would be completely out of place for the Romulan fans that want the faction. They want the devious, secretive and manipulating RSE and this is exactly what Cryptic will deliver if they make Rommies a faction. Not D'Tan and his pacifist band of missfits.
IMHO - May - the RSE returns through FEs with a venegance trying to punsih New Romulus for the "betrayal". New Romulus will probably not be destroyed, but Romulan power will be set up in the Romulan domain. We get new maps like NR, more missions, war zones, more diverse end-game content and sprusing up the KDF to look more like a proper faction.
That sets up the stage for the introduction of the RSE faction in S9, just as the wiki says.
Maybe it's my inner pessimist, but I can't shake the thought in the back of my mind that the phrase "some will fall" is a reflection of an internal cryptic acknowledgement that some players aren't going to like what's coming, and may well quit.
Welcome to MMOs in general.
Seriously, if anyone at Cryptic believes that everyone will love the new content and that no one will quit over it then they need their head examining.
The best most people at Cryptic will be hoping for is that more people join than quit, just like every other MMO launching a major update.
Hey everyone, so i've got a radical idea of what this might be about, it will probably turn out to be complete rubbish but who knows. What if the woman is actually Sela who disappeared? And furthermore, what if the may release is to coincide with the new Star Trek film? What if John Harrison (or whoever he turns out to be) is involved somehow? What if he's the guy in the picture? What if Sela was taken by the iconians to the JJ universe?
I think there are some really interesting story ideas to explore here anyway.
The only trouble I see with the Romulan Empire being playable and not D'Tan's is the that the reputation system and the STFs.
This would put the playable romulans against KDF and Feds both, and outside omega Reputation and Romulan reputation.
Say goodbye to your shinies may not go down well with all players. Of course, if romulans are going to be a level 50 "monster play" faction, that may as well be okey.
Though I would feel the new romulus one to be better, playable iconians as part of a monster faction might appease me
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.
Yeah it's not the 1960s anymore. Had me worried for a second.
Hang on *checks episodes from Enterprise, Voyager, DS9, and TNG*
Yeah, the trend of sexualizing certain female characters in Trek totally died out with the uniforms and outfits that cast members of TOS wore. Except for T'Pol, Seven of Nine, Kira, and to a lesser extent - Troi.
Otherwise, you're completely correct. STO has totally introduced a sexual component into Trek that was clearly never there in the past.
Thanks to Time Travelling Space TRIBBLE Guy for helping me with my research.
And yet even T'Pol managed to not be as blatant as T'its, or as ridiculous as a barefoot woman thrusting her TRIBBLE up to a big strong man in what's supposedly a tragic scene.

Well, at the same time the KDF will be against the Feds. and the RSE both, as well as the Federation against RSE and KDF both. That's what I would expect to be the point, have a 3-way conflict that would bring more diversity in the war zones and PvP.
It doesn't necessarily mean that the players will say goodbye to the shinies they've acquired through the Romulan rep., maybe the playable Romulans would have another tech edge, or alternative, but that is Cryptic's domain.
I can see your point about D'Tan's being easier to implement due to the Romulan rep., but I stand by my opinion that the peace-loving, open-minded and cooperative Romulans is not what the majority of players and especially the Romulan fans were looking for.

Anyone care to comment or are you all ignoring me because i haven't posted much?
Can we please stop call the Romulans a "race", they are a offshoot of the Vulcans and as about as much as a race as Caucasians and Mongoloid are different race, this have so unfortunately implications it always amuses me people go around how Romulans apparently are "xenophobic, secretive and devious" down at the genetic level because they ARE Vulcans, in case you people forget they left Vulcan in the 4th Century so how about you people stop being racists? since I WILL call on that.
First off all, acknowledging races doesn't make you a racist, it's when you say that one race is superior to another.
Second, there is a difference between species and race. Romulans and Vulcans are the same species but not the same race. They are not identical, genetically speaking. This was noted several times on the shows, by Dr. Crusher for example. Romulans have ridges on their foreheads, Vulcans do not. Romulans also don't seem to be as strong physically as Vulcans.

Much as your story has merit, It isn't going to happen. Cryptic has said repeatedly, there license is with CBS, JJverse is owned by Paramount. They can NOT do anything JJverse related without negotiating a totally new contract with Paramount, and probably paying majorly in royalties.
If it wasn't on TV or a movie before (and including) Nemesis, Cryptic can't do it. There are exception, but not many.

I am pretty sure the various species have been called races before, but I could be wrong.
That being said, it has been established multiple times on Star Trek that the Romulans are not Vulcans. They are a genetic offshot, with Origins in the Vulcan species.
Yes, they were once Vulcans, but Centuries of Isolation from their Vulcan Cousins have mutated the Romulans genetically to the point that they are a Totally different species.
why is she barefoot? Most females in trek (except orions) wear boots.
dunno why, but she kinda looks like she would be a native to pre (industrial?) planet, kinda like she is tarzan's jane who's hair has more vaults in it than a secret romulan base
[Combat (Self)] Your Bite deals 2378 (1475) Physical Damage(Critical) to Spawnmother.
Considering all them tholians on new Romulus why are people so shocked it might get burned the ground or abandoned. What's d'tan gonna do if he gets that gate working? Maybe that alone will change everything.....
Personally I hope there is a romulan faction come may. This game needs more factions.
Big story focus [16][33]
At least one new Feature Episode series at launch and maybe even more than that [2]
New Romulus-like adventure zone in the Nimbus System [34]
Khitomer will be a featured location
"March Beneath the Raptor's Wings"
"Our Shadow Will Dim the Stars"
"Some Will Fall"
my guess is this will happen on khitomer and will poss. show what happened there and how sela became who she is today ..........

I think William Ware Theiss started that in the 1960's. Just sayin'.

I think its more logical to have the old Star Empire's capital, Rator 3, in flames.
Hang on *checks calander*

Maybe this is actually an announcement for a book tie in.
Because looking it over, this pic would make an excellent cover for a trashy romance novel.

SOOOO ... Casting her into the fires of Mt. Doom, eh?
What about the One Iconian Ring to rule them all and in the darkness bind them?
U.S.S. Maelstrom, NCC-71417 (Constitution III-class/flagship) --- Fleet Admiral Hauk' --|-- Dahar Master Hauk --- I.K.S. qu'In 'an bortaS (D7-class / flagship)
....
Because the fire is behind them.
One does not simply carry gratuitous imagery into Mol'Rihan.
Hey, I just noticed... why are you ASKING if you added it to the teaser site? :P
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
u saying this makes me think u are involved with this pic somehow and u play starcraft in ur spare time away from the trek universe. :P:D
