That's no Easter Egg. It's appears to be the behavior of a non-combat pet that's active and the player goes into Quarks Bar. I've been Hortas, Eppohs, Mugatos, and Sehlats running in front of Quarks like that;. If my guesstimate is right, when the pets are appears is where Quarks is located on the map. So my guess is the pet is falling through the floor from Quarks to the Promenade and high tailing it to the door into Quark's to fall to the Promenade to start the cycle over again.

No..this is different to that pathing issue that I've seen as you described before... I watched the lil epoh for a good 15 minutes doing the same cycle (I was afking while eating lunch) over and over, watching the eppoh literally run from the grate/vent texture, across the floor then fade at Quarks entrance..

...thing is though, if you then go inside Quarks, the eppoh doesn't run towards its owner as you'd expect but on spawning inside Quarks, turns 90 degrees and runs behind the bar and then around the corner into an alcove where it vanishes..a few moments later returning to repeat the cycle

Even if it is just an odd pet behavior, I must admit its a fun little quirk that adds a little life to the pretty sterile ds9 (and would make sense that a cute (subjective) species like eppohs would end up on ds9 like tribbles) ...If it is a new easter egg tossed in by a dev having a bit of fun...bravo

This thread is now made of win. Also, on a side note, my faith in the devs is restored...

Honestly, that looks like bad pathing. Reminds me of the running of Boffs in the Bajoran Fire caves when I played that mission.

I had a random thought. What if a dev pulled a prank and on occasion when fighting the Borg you would hear in their typical Borgy voice...

YES, PLEASE! LOL That would be so funny! They could explain it as a Windows bug from a hard drive they assimilated that was found in a time capsule!

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

Your fighting the Borg, then suddenly all the cubes turn blue...

Borg: "One of us. Gooble Gobble, Gooble gobble. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. We accept her, we accept her. 0x21FE0001 One of us, One of us. DIVIDE_BY_ZERO_ERROR..."

They blink out of phase and display a four-colored flag on all their sides...

Borg: "One of us. Gooble Gobble, Gooble gobble. We accept her, we accept her. One of us, One of us."

The first time i heard the music, i was like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JF83LhxnAPA
And then, i heard it in the Arucanis Arm(which is depicted as a nebula)... And then i remembered... Everything... The war, the attack on the colonies...

    STO and BSG spoiler

It makes sense now. Iconians are actually the Cylon God. They led Humans to Earth, helped them create a civilization there and they're coming to claim it.

As Gaius said "It doesn't like to be called that", when referring to God.

(which is why the ending of BSG was spooky as hell, especially when we see the robot montage of our current tech levels and what could become)

There's a strange sound/music that plays if you get within .3 LYs or less of the Arucanis Arm nebula looking thing in the Regulus Sector Block in Celes Sector. Sometimes I just park my ship there and listen to it and fantasize for up to an hour.
