Isn't that the sound of the Borg Assimilated engine?

It's to be heard when you get your camera position next to it. And that often happens when you bump in a wall (sector or system map border).

I removed the borg engine and the sound was still there.

Probably a bored software engineer having some fun with the code. :D

The sound is the result of "temporal wakes" due the recent overuse of temporal ships. This is the theory that Section 32 has been working on to explain what you have been experiencing.

Section 32 denies that existence of Section 31 and Section 33 deny that we exist.

Anyone noticed another little egg? namely ds9 now has a rogue colony of eppohs - stand outside Quarks and you can see a grey eppoh run from an air vent into Quarks and then behind the counter before dissapearing...

Guess we now know what meat is used in those Jumja sticks...

Really? Gonna have to check that out. :)

I remember this sound far back in Beta. There was a black hole at the southern end of Regulus that this sound as well. One of the reasons why I turned off the music in STO.

Ok, I've been around this forum long enough to know where this thread is going now.

"Wall of text describing in detail why you wouldn't hear any sound from a black hole."

    Amirite? :D

Pffft. I've had the sound (all sound) turned off in STO for quite some time now.

Don't attribute to 'easter egg' what you can to incompetence on Cryptic's part.

I always thought it was just an ambient sound for the exploration clusters.

Huh, I guess that the stress of trying to market a successful game to one of the most obsessive fandoms of all time could break anyone. :P

Honestly though, I think this game needs more Easter Eggs and secrets strewn all over it. Finding everything would be a good incentive to go everywhere, and land sakes does this game need more reasons to explore.

Yeah, i came across this several months ago too, and you know what?

This is the sound of the crystalline entity when you were close to it. It seems, for some reason it is being played when you are at some particular sector block transition spots.

Some of these spots only play this sound only when you get there via autopilot and your starship comes to a halt there. You can make it play louder when you zoom far out with your mousewheel and move your camera under the map grid, then slowly zoom in again (you are looking at the underside of your ship now).

    Hope that was understandable. :)

That's no Easter Egg. It's appears to be the behavior of a non-combat pet that's active and the player goes into Quarks Bar. I've been Hortas, Eppohs, Mugatos, and Sehlats running in front of Quarks like that;. If my guesstimate is right, when the pets are appears is where Quarks is located on the map. So my guess is the pet is falling through the floor from Quarks to the Promenade and high tailing it to the door into Quark's to fall to the Promenade to start the cycle over again.

What I found ironic is mentioning there are no sounds near a black hole, while failing to mention that there is simply no sound in space. No matter how close to a black hole, and the lack of sound is not related to the presence of a black hole.
    Just saying !

Not sure if it's an easter egg, but the answer of the devs made me laugh^^

Well I listened to that noise and the Crystalline Entity, and I can say that the mysterious music is not the CE. Though when I listen to the perplexing sound, ringing through my head is...

One of us. One of us. Gooble Gobble, Gooble Gobble. We accept her, we accept her. One of us, One of us.
I ask nothing but that you remember me.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

I had a random thought. What if a dev pulled a prank and on occasion when fighting the Borg you would hear in their typical Borgy voice...

One of us. One of us. Gooble Gobble, Gooble gobble. We accept her, we accept her. One of us, One of us.
