I have no problem with allowing other races into the RSE as long as I get a filter to auto block all non-Romulans.
Close your eyes? :P
Maybe Cryptic can restrict the NPC's walking around on the Romulan Academy and Romulan Starbase to Romulan Civilians/Soldiers with a few 'non-romulan contacts'. I'd settle for that. I just don't want a pure Romulan-Reman crew. It would be nice to mix it up a little.
That being said, I don't really want any 7-foot Hirogen on my crew either.
My Federation Crews (I have two toons) are made up of a variety of species, though I've completely excluded the Tellarite, Pakled and Ferengi cause I don't like them, and the Benzite cause Cryptic hasn't got around to fixing the game, giving us Benzite Bridge Officers just yet.
My Klingon toon has six Klingons, and two non. The Klingon Empire (and Romulan Empire) aren't like the Federation. They've not unified with any other species, though they would form alliances and have exchange programs running. On my Klingon ships, you'll see Klingons (mostly) with the odd Gorn, Nausciaan or Orion walking about). I want the same feel for a Romulan character; a ship primarily filled up with Romulans (x4), Reman (x2) and other (x2).
I make it a habit of having 8 Boffs per character. I don't feel there is much need for any more than that.

i like this,good sugestion
LoR should to be about rebuilding Romulan Star Empire, liberating Donatra from borg collective ,confronting Sela & madness of Tal Shiar, claiming Vulcan as new romulan homeworld...
All this negativity is coming from assuming cryptic would put out a full factions worth of content. That only happened with one faction, there are several directions they could go with the romulans, not to mention that some of the romulan content is a matter of copy and pasting other material.
Edits will be made, but the whole FE series could be converted in writing by a days end. The real meat is the home world and the player hub, that would take time, but its not something they couldn't do, especially if you play for the Dtan faction. After that it's menues and interface programming, and ships/customization.
So, lets tally the key necessary items, and the time taken to create them.
-1- FE writing conversion. 1 day maybe 2 to add, maybe a few days to write. (a week or two to add them to the borg conference)
-2- Making home world-(could just be an additional area for new romulus) a whole seasons worth of time or less.
-3- Fleet system- a whole seasons worth of time (for two factions in the season it happened)
-4- Ships- 40 ships were done in the fleet season at launch, majority copy paste from others, but still 40+ ships.
-5- Character customization-Could be extremely minimal like the klingons, lets say it would take a season to make this.
-6- The feature episode cryptic has confirmed as being added in 'season 8'.
So, Dan Stahl has said that this expansion will have up to four seasons worth of material in it based on time taken for release, in addition he states that the team has grown immensely.
Points 3 and 4 happened in the same season, with half of those points being split amongst two factions. So we will converge them into half a seasons worth of content since they need only be applied to one faction.
.1 for fe expansion
+1 for home planet, thats being giving considering the potential of new romulus
+.5 for half a seasons worth of fleet material and ships
+1 for character customization and interface programming
+1 for the promised featured episode
=3.6 seasons worth of material
So there you have it, without even adding the potential efficiency of a larger crew a new faction could definitely fit into their schedule. This is also not considering New Romulus as a majority content zone for the Romulan homeworld, but I want you to think about who you would play as in a romulan faction if not for Dtan, after all, the Tal Shiar and Sela become your enemies in the established FE's. So doing anything else would clash with the games story greatly.
This also leaves .4 seasons worth of work as possible filler for anything essential that I missed, lets give it to system changes or something. (Lets also not forget there were many changes to the ques in season 7 as well)

Whilst it is true that we've currently only got one true faction (in the sense of levels 1 through 50) it wouldn't surprise me if they unlocked the earlier KDF levels to match. All the content is already there; the ships, the weapons etc. Sure, it may remain unfinished, but it would seem somewhat redundant to release a RSE faction that is as unfinished as the KDF one is.
Add to the fact "March under the Raptors Wing" ~ I think that's the quote? Seems unlikely it'll be a faction focused on D'Tan, or a faction that would otherwise eventually integrate into the FED or KDF. If such a faction were focused on D'Tan, the text would most likely read "Relax under the Raptors Wing". D'Tan (and followers) aren't interested in war or conquest.
Another reason I'm thinking not D'Tan; if the faction is based on D'Tan, then what business would there be having you (as a Romulan player) fighting the FED & KDF, who are in diplomatic relations with D'Tan. Wouldn't make any sense. We need an aggressive Romulan Faction (centered around Sela).

Excluding D'Tan and New Romulus, elements of that planet can be taken for an existing Romulan stronghold. The FE Series would work (though I'm not so sure about the Reman Episodes). They only really need to create four specific social hubs; the starbase, the academy, the K-7 like Base and the KDF equivalent and the Fleet Starbase.
So, Dan Stahl has said that this expansion will have up to four seasons worth of material in it based on time taken for release, in addition he states that the team has grown immensely.
If we're getting four seasons worth, then tehre is a good chance we'll get a finished KDF faction alongside a new Romulan one.
This also leaves .4 seasons worth of work as possible filler for anything essential that I missed, lets give it to system changes or something. (Lets also not forget there were many changes to the ques in season 7 as well)
Heh, I hope so, there is a lot of little bugs they've still got to address. Galaxy X Spinal Lance, Benzite Bridge Officers, Noble Class Saucer (Registry) etc.
Has nobody put up the point that maybe they've been keeping this going for a while, on the back-burner, a secret project working on it for months without telling anyone. That would have given them more then enough to time to do it. Maybe all the bugs and content gaps we have been suffering is because they had to sacrifice for the Romulan faction...?
Plus they could introduced other minor races such as the So'na to add to the Romulan faction since they are effectively hated by the Federation and Klingons due to their participation in the Dominion War.
I would LOVE to the see the Interstellar Concordium come back after hundreds of years and kick the Federation's TRIBBLE but that's overly optimistic.
Mays "update" to contain 4 "normal seasons" worth of updates/changes?
OKay so math time here:
7 "seasons" released over the course of 34 months or so = roughly 5 months on average between seasons.
So "4 normal seasons" would amount to "20 months" worth of work which would be 1.6 yrs of time for development = plenty of time to toss the KDF a few bones while creating the Romulan faction even up to KDF "standards".

Yay for fuzzy math?
Im pretty sure he was comparing it to the latest season or two. Those other seasons included holdups like the ftp system and a graphics update. If you really want to take it apart, check the times for the seasons measurements I used in the pseudo equation since they are a rough equivalent of the features a faction would need. For the character creater aspects, check out how long it took the devs to make the caitians and their counterparts.
And as much as I want the Romulans to be evil or individualistic they would either need to get ridiculous amounts of favoritism or neglect for that to happen. The raptors wing may be a reference to breaking away from Vulcan, but that doesn't stop dtan faction ships from using the raptors wings on their ships.

pretty much what i am thinking..
they promised the 3rd faction a long time ago. it is a win win situation..
if the WHOLE game was programmed within 1 year, a faction cannot take longer than that.
with a proper planning, i believe it can be launched by may.
All this hype is infectious. And that could be a problem, if the outcome is not what the forum is clearly setting itself up for. Even at this early stage, the hype in the prospect of seeing a playable Romulan warbird, as a Romulan, in a Romulan faction is palpable.
Cryptic would be wise to keep expectations in check. "March Beneath the Raptor's Wings" is an incredibly suggestive title for a marketing campaign that has very few alternatives to the obvious "Play as a Romulan".
If all this hype over a Romulan faction does get out of hand... well... given the crudstorm Cryptic have gotten in to with expectations vs reality in the past, it might serve them well to at least confirm what the 'season' is not going to be.
I will laugh so damn hard if in May it turns out 'March Beneath the Raptors Wings' actually means the Romulans or a subset of such join the Federation / Klingons.
After 3 years of watching Cryptic consistantly TRIBBLE up STO, especially when it comes to their PR lies vs Reality of what they deliver. I have little doubt STO will NOT get a Romulan Faction like anything the naive masses are hoping for.
It is far more likely they will simply add Romulan Romulan contacts that dish out missions with Romulan rewards. Then watch as the C-Store / Lockboxes start handing out new ships at inflated prices.
If they are willing to throw out a Jem Hadar Dreadnaught for sale, I find it more than likely the Scimitar will be in the cards soon enough.

By doing that, they'll cover a pretty large list which would unintentionally give away their not-so little secret.
They know we want Romulans, they've gone to all this trouble with that new page. It's going to be the faction. Can you imagine just how many peeved off people there are going to be if it turns out otherwise?

The scimitar will be the odyssey equivalent for sure. Hope and pray they don't make it a carrier.
If they're going to follow the route of the Jem Hadar Dreadnought, then it'll be a Carrier for sure; equipped with two hanger bays full of Scorpion Fighters.

It could work.
But it would be lame imo, the nemesis battle was all about just blowing the hell out of the other ships. It would fit the spirit so much better if the thing was just a real monster like the bortasqu, but hope of hope, maybe the in game distinction between romulan and reman ships will lead to two different versions.
The reman one could be a carrier as it was and that sexy green one could be a more traditional Romulan dreadnaught. I kind of hope they do something like this with all the ships now I think about it (but with the option to skin the other version if you want, no neon rave underground reman party ships for me please)

Probably one of the reasons Shinzon didn't use his scorpion fighters is probably due to the Scimitar being more advanced than the enterprise. It would be overkill. Plus..Firing while cloaked. http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Scimitar look at that armament 52 distruptor banks, 27 photon torpedo launchers. And it has a ton of scorpion fighters.

The Scimitar is the only carrier we ever actually see in Star Trek and its made by the same race that make the Scorp fighters.
OF COURSE it is going to be a carrier.
As far as STO is concerned Dreadnaught = Carrier
Any attempt to deviate from that is going to cause a hilarious mess with the ship system.
If you are looking for a ship that is as big as a Dreadnaught but trades the fighters in for more firepower, space magic or thicker armor. Your not asking for a Dreadnaught, your asking for a battleship.
I have no objections to Admiral rank getting access to battleships which essentially do away with the trinity specialisation of tank / heal / DPS in favour of doing all three at reduced effectiveness.
Its just going to be hilarious warping into Infected elite with 5 people flying them.
I will laugh so damn hard if in May it turns out 'March Beneath the Raptors Wings' actually means the Romulans or a subset of such join the Federation / Klingons.
Considering the KDF has raptors... Marching beneath it's wings is not so subtle for what that titling infers.
Sub-sub faction incoming imo.

OR... just to be really REALLY hilarious.
No Romulan faction at ALL, instead the Klingons and Federation are going to unite into a single faction. That would make me laugh even harder than the river of tears that will occur if the Romulan Faction hopes were crushed.

Yeah, this "game update" makes me think of "new game enhancements" and all the fun associated.
Moving away from one descriptive term to coin a new one, SWG went from "Publishes" to "Chapters" which makes me think of this need to drop the word "Season" in STO.
Maybe they will cite engine optimizations to change a "few" things in order to make STO more modernized in terms with what NWN has got going on?
Who knows but your post is quite funny and could even be a portent of things to come. Hehe.
Either way, my popcorn and I will be awaiting. This is going to be good.

what i see coming according to DStahls "we need to put factions in the correct place" is:
- every faction gets a tutorial and some 3 missions
- content is shared from lvl 5-50
- cross-faction PVE and PVP
- cross-faction reputations
only unique faction stuff.:
- HQ and academy
- Fleets
- DOFF system
- ships, uniforms and stuff
- daily missions
if there's going to be any Romulan fraction then it should come with a warning, something like "work in progress, play it at your own risk".
This might reduce the number of complains in this forum in future.
Grinding for MkIV epic gear?
Ain't Nobody Got Time for That
DStahl: "New PVP Changes inbound... out with the old and in with the new... soon-trademark... almost here... introducing... TRIBBLE RACING!!!"

...Or the new romulan faction is part of the KDF (to increase their ranks) and the content the romulan faction provides closes the gap of missions the KDF is suffering.
...or we are looking at a level cap raise, and the romulan faction starts at lvl 50...and the corresponding missions are adapted for kdf and starfleet.
PVP balanced around 3 factions? doubtfull. I rather think romulans will join with one of the 2.

It does look like fuzzy math, until you realise that the Dev team has within the last year apparently nearly tripled in size (from about 15-20 to 40-50). Take into account that they may have been working on Season 8 during the Beta for Season 7 and some team members possibly before that and it becomes clear that they mayhave had more than enough time to produce something 4 times as large as any season previously.
They've said repeatedly there won't be a Romulan faction until the KDF faction has a complete experience. Dan's said the current Klingon experience is not considered complete, and has given some ideas as to what he considers necessary for it to be so.
Anybody who is interpreting this as "we're getting a full Romulan faction in May" is doing so in the face of direct evidence to the contrary. We're certainly getting something related to Romulans, and whatever it is a lot of work has been, and will be, spent on it; but there is no reason to think it's going to be a full Romulan faction but sheer wishful thinking.

To be fair, you could probably write books about what has been said compared to what has actually transpired.
How the Devs see Star Trek, apparently:
Star Trek: The Original Grind
Star Trek: The Next Grind
Star Trek: Deep Space Grind
Star Trek: Voyage to the Grind

You do make some valid points. I would agree that my own interpretations could be construed and written off as mere "wishful thinking", especially given the history of what Cryptic has managed to actually deliver over the last three years content-wise.
Over the past week or so since the teaser was released, I've tempered my enthusiasm down a bit, however, I'm still inclined to believe that we will be seeing some major changes in the STO galaxy come May.
First, Klingons will not be as popular as Fed, never. There are too many "They are animals" fans. Playing level 1-20 will not help, more ships will not help, more costumes will not help. But some Fed players hate Klingons and love Romulans , they will play Romulan faction so we can destroy both in the future .
Second, MMO with two factions are really really boring. PvP instanced + 2 factions = Dead PvP.

If you are looking for a ship that is as big as a Dreadnaught but trades the fighters in for more firepower, space magic or thicker armor. Your not asking for a Dreadnaught, your asking for a battleship.
More specifically, your asking for one of these.
I have no objections to Admiral rank getting access to battleships which essentially do away with the trinity specialisation of tank / heal / DPS in favour of doing all three at reduced effectiveness.
Its just going to be hilarious warping into Infected elite with 5 people flying them.

- every faction gets a tutorial and some 3 missions
- content is shared from lvl 5-50
- cross-faction PVE and PVP
- cross-faction reputations
only unique faction stuff.:
- HQ and academy
- Fleets
- DOFF system
- ships, uniforms and stuff
- daily missions
This might reduce the number of complains in this forum in future.

...or we are looking at a level cap raise, and the romulan faction starts at lvl 50...and the corresponding missions are adapted for kdf and starfleet.
Second, MMO with two factions are really really boring. PvP instanced + 2 factions = Dead PvP.
