Queued up for a pug ISE to test a new ship, slightly under-geared.
I get the notice one is revving up, I hit "enter".
I enter.
Inside: 2 nubcakes. 1 is dead. The mission counter is gone. Optional signals a red cross.
Yup, it tossed me into a gonner game in-progress.
So, I leave.
1 hour "STF leaver" ban, which is not only STF but applies across all the PVE (and probably PVP) public queues (can supposedly create private ones, except for STF ones).
Awesome job as always.
I chuckled and switched toons. No love for miss #7 tonight.
Typical GG.

So... instead of being a good sport and helping a couple of new players make it through ISE when they were clearly in trouble, you bailed and them circumvented the penalty for doing so.
Would it have killed you to stay? I mean yeah, maybe your ship would have blown up a few times, but you wouldn't have gotten a leaver penalty that way, you'd have gotten some marks, dilithium and a useless item.
I will never understand elitists.

Wait... you queued for a PUG ISE to Test a new ship, then left because the optional was gone?
That's illogical captain, you could have test your build in a loosing STF it won't make a difference, you only queued to test your new ship.
If people didn't leave STF when things don't go their way, you wouldn't spawn in a loosing STF.
Win or lose, you stick with the team, or suffer the leaver penalty.

+ 1 on this. Why bother playing PUG at all if this is the way people approach it?

You go to test a new ship which you ADMIT is undergeared for an Elite level STF, get there, realize that the optional is failed and then refuse to help the guys who could have used your so-called "expertise" to at least pass the mission?

I'm sure they also took one look at your undergeared Captain McWeaksauce and weren't sad to see go.

bailing, and the attitude behind it, drags stf play down.
i'd understand if they went afk at the start but in this situation it was better to stay and school the n00bs.

NO to ARC RIP KDF and PvP 2014-07-17 Season 9.5 - Death by Dev
1) It shouldn't put me in a game in progress in the first place. Or at least alert that it's a game in progress and not a new game.
2) "STF Leaver" - then why does it bar the entire queue system and not just STF?
3) I did not circumvent anything. That toon got shutdown. I switched toons, set some doffs and went to play WH40k SpaceMarine PvP instead then returned later.
4) Your comments demonstrate a complete lack of understanding of the way ISE is structured.
Two clueless rookies and a tank cruiser would take an infinity to finish an ISE gone bust, even if they were to listen (which ranks somewhere in the probability scale with Cryptic bringing back episodic mission content or corrupt bankers going on trial).
The nanite spheres waves respawn faster than you can dispose of them.
Bringing the generator down before the nanites reach healing range would be unattainable given the poor DPS.
That they failed it with 5 members, and 3 quit in frustration before I got shoved in there, should be enough of an indicator that they are incapable of achieving it and I definitely couldn't carry them solo (maybe if I had an escort spec'd for tricos with purple gear).
ISE has no "fail" condition. You could keep swinging at that wall for 3 hours and nothing would come out of it.
I prefer a more pragmatic approach of a hour penalty and play another two later.

I don't mind getting put in an STF that's already started. Sometimes I get put in failures. Sometimes I don't. Twice recently I queued for Cure Elite, got in, 2 cubes dead, third almost dead, Kang at 100%. I got 100 marks and Processors for doing very little. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you're unlucky.
2) "STF Leaver" - then why does it bar the entire queue system and not just STF?
It's a punishment. It's meant to keep people like you from quitting at the first sign of trouble.

Not really. I went in with Fleet mates once. I was dangerously under geared (due to a new character) and someone else had no idea what he was doing. Pretty sure they were teaching him how to do it. Someone destroyed a generator early. Two of the group decided to leave. We still managed to finish it even with one new player and a very underpowered me. It was hell, but we did it.
Did you even give it a chance? No, you just assumed they were "nubcakes" and quit.

So the third guy carried you two, and you're a TRIBBLE who enjoy living through purgatory.
FYI, I did carry pugs, many times in space, and even several times in frigging IGE of all places for a hour-two hour session each.
And you know what? I got some sense afterwards to A) Not pug ground, ever. It's dumb to torture and frustrate myself for hours when I could've been out and doing something FUN and come back later.
Have fun pugging, mate.

So really the jist of it here is you are the worst PUG ever - not even an AFKer, you're a pull in pull out... Makes me wonder if you're in a Fleet... and if you are, what they think of your tactics...
Reminder - if you stay and play ~20 minutes, and still can't get anywhere, you don't usually get the leaver penalty, at least that's the experience I've had. Surely 20 minutes could have tested your, admittedly, sub-par build.
I try and help if I can I m that sort of person, I will even give up HE to someone who really needs it more than me considering my healer ship is quite a tank any ways I can always get some damage resistance up.
If I m out of "play time" so to speck than I would as I m not really bothered at that point, just wanted to squeezes in some extra DL and a nice rare reward

People like you make me sick. You insult players here without knowing what happened. Maybe the people who left allowing you to get in caused the problem and maybe the other players tried to test a new ship and or build. You entered to test a new ship and did not even do anything to test it in a perfect test situation. You did not even attempt to help them at all.
In the past I had entered that mission on elite in a new ship to test (Ambassador) with average equipment and helped 3 people 2 in cruisers and 1 in science ship with 1 of them already dead. It took 20 min to complete it despite the fact I was in a cruiser and their was only 4 of us total.
You did not even try you did not even try you did not even try. What do you think that says about you? You could of tried and if it did not go well you could of then left. Would it of really killed you to try even if only for a few min?
This has to be a troll, nobody can be this childish.........
In the world of MMO (many I have played) this is actually COMMON!
I personally would have stayed (especially if I was testing a new ship and loadout) It is a "perfect scenario" because you can see playing with "noobcakes" with your test ship can save them and win the game or not.
This has to be a troll, nobody can be this childish.........
You'd be surprised, I always laugh at the ramblings of these 1337 Players who go on about underskilled in pugs, the lack of maturity and blatant arrogance is just amusing. Especially when they embarrass themselves by posting about it. As if those awesome leet skills mean anything outside of this game.
Reality check, it's not the world, it's just a game, if you don't like who you might have to play with in pugs, don't pug. If you end up in an STF that turns into a cluster f..k you lose less time just playing through it than if you act like a 2 year old and quit before it's finished and you will get at least something for your wasted time rather than a time out.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.
But if I was testing my ship I would have stayed its the best way to test a ship....no win senario Kirk would have stayed.
Well. It is interesting to see some players who are "elitist" and whine about other "noobs" not being at their level. personally a "true elitist" would have stayed and show the "noobcakes" it can be done with a "TEST SHIP build" and then brag about it
You know, I've pugged 3 or 4 Conduit Elite that was on the ropes...optional missed, 2 guys left, spheres, gateways and cubes flaying the living hell out of the remaining guys.
I stayed and HELPED slug our way out of it. That was my choice.
In fairness to this guy, we cannot impose our will on what he believes is right or wrong. He saw the same scenario and he left. End of discussion.
This just proves the point that people, given the same set of stimuli, will not react the same way to said stimuli. Like the Marines ad on TV..."Some people walk away from danger, others run towards it".
As for myself, I'm glad I stayed and did that; one of them over an hour to finish. In each one of them, though, another captain always warped in and those stayed too. And guess what...we finished them all successfully (granted, you can't fail Conduit) and there was always a round of "thank yous" afterwards.
with average equipment and helped 3 people 2 in cruisers and 1 in science ship with 1 of them already dead. It took 20 min to complete it despite the fact I was in a cruiser and their was only 4 of us total.
Two hours after that I came back and pulled a team of 4 who got smashed left and right by tanking with a white-geared Ambassador whereas they kept dying whenever they drew aggro.
And lets re-mention all I said earlier: dozens of space STF, as well as IGE, whereas I pulled pugs out of the mud all by my own.
In one instance I poured 2 hours to teach the 2 rookies who got left in IGE with me after the others gave up, expended about 60 regenerators on them (good thing I packed extra just in case), and by the end we managed it, mostly with a little luck.
And you know something? It was a NIGHTMARE. I don't get PAID to play. I play to have FUN.
I don't serve the military anymore, why should I have to do it all over again?
Having to turn into drill sergeant just to be able to enjoy a game? Is that your idea? That's crazy talk!

It says about me that I've had plenty of experience in past years to know when I can carry a team and when it would be a complete waste of my time, and worse yet, it'll be time spent NOT HAVING FUN. In a game.
I do not need to try. I have ample knowledge of the game and situation to be able to analyze it. If I were in an escort or had strong tricos, sure, I could turn it over.
In an eng/cruiser with white gear? Yeah, good luck carrying a team of 3.
Here's another one for you. Since you're acting so hurt and like to lump on a valid criticism.
My friend is now pissed about yet another "Typical GG", too.
He queued for StarBase 24. He entered.
The scenario ended about a second later. He got no reward. He sure got the queue CD though.
Go ahead, find reasons why it's entirely his fault, also.
Because the game is so perfect and us "elitists" are so naughty.
And more food for thought: when newbies getting smashed, are they having fun? When newbies have the instance won with blazing colours, are they having fun?
Think about that before you trash talk about so-called "elitists".
And yes, I'm in a fleet, several, and even run my own. And I've taught many players throughout the years.
And I answer questions whenever I get asked.
So before you march on your character assassination, think a little if you have a clue who this person is or what he does.

I have enter many starbase 24 (and stayed about 10 seconds and it ended) I always get something.
The thing is that the current mechanics CAN'T tell if a player just join and quit (cause he wants to be a butt hole OR he/she felt that the situation is not winnable) a system can't tell the difference. The mechanic is in place to prevent "a-holes" of joining a random pug and leaving them (other games that happen cause that player find joy in making other people miserable)
You happen to get caught in the mechanics. If it was timed mission, then there SHOULD be a coding that prevent players from entering matches that is almost finish (i.e. 1 minute to go) that ways newly entered player don't get screwed on loots/rewards)
5 people entered ISE. One of the most simple scenario games I've known. It got screwed up. They couldn't fix it. Three players quit.
Good so far?
The Ambassador is the ship I tested and it is barely out a week. Some past...

You do not have any info on what exactly happened beyond how many remained and the optional was a failure yet you insulted the ones who remained.
You did not even try not even for a few min and came here to post about it in a insulting manner. Again would it of killed you to try at all even for a few min? I mean come on a few min just to try and see how the ship you wanted to test does.
How exactly can you magically know if you can carry a team when you left so quickly? I have played all the missions many times and can not possibly know that fast. I have been able to help complete missions that I did not think was possible and done so in a reasonable period of time. Your a arrogant person thinking you know something without even trying. Their is a saying you never know until you try. You did not even try not even for a few min to do what you wanted to do test the ship.
You make me sick with how you handled this entire thing. You quit without even try and called the one who remained nubcakes.

I think that is the main issue that people have against the OP. The presentation seems a bit "a-hole-ish" move. Now the later post is show that the player HAVE help and done things, but we didn't know that originally. We all read the first post and came to a certain conclusion.
Now if it was presented that (or wishing to have an option) that If there was a tick mark saying "If optional failed do not put me into that STF" or something similar and thus avoid the whole situation (that would be a cool function)

Yes and that is why he makes me sick with they way he handled everything. If he had just quit and then complained about being put in a mission that already had a failed optional their would be no problem.
What I find funny is he failed to even test the ship in a perfect test scenario.
The nanite spheres waves respawn faster than you can dispose of them.
If this is your view, then you're not very good, are you?
Back when I was still new and in an Oddy dealing 3.8k DPS, we had one loser ragequit in an ISE after someone blew a generators early, he got killed, and nanites healed the transformer. With the prerequisite rant about noobs, of course. Then some other TRIBBLE got killed, made a speech about how it was a no-win scenario, and then just sat at spawn doing nothing. The other two and myself (a noob back then) patiently cleared the nanites (two waves, in fact) and blew the transformer. None of the three ships (including mine) were built really nicely, I think I was using blue Plasma-Disruptor Mk XIs with the Aegis set, and I think their damage was about the same as mine.
We finished, with the ranting TRIBBLE finally coming in to help when he noticed that wa-hay, we actually blew the gateway and was working on the tac cube.
The spawning nanites aren't really that difficult to overcome if I could do it back when I was an ignorant noob.
personally a "true elitist" would have stayed and show the "noobcakes" it can be done with a "TEST SHIP build" and then brag about it
I'm in the middle of testing various loadouts to see what works better, and ended up carrying a KSE last night. Did at least half the damage to the gateways and all 5 cubes, and blew half the generators. Donatra killed me once with a 50k Photon spread though.
No organization, 3 of us headed right, and the beamboat who went after probes couldn't take them unless he started the moment they spawned - so I had to run after probes a few times. The 2 left managed to get themselves killed from spawning a cube, and it wandered over to our side, where I killed it. They didn't make much further progress before letting a probe slip through. They apologized for it, though I personally didn't care since I was just testing my loadout.
After we cleared the right side, we went left found they had only managed to blow 2-3 generators before the spawned cube wiped them both out, and then they were preoccupied with spawns since we had blown the right gateway. Parser showed I did 59% of the total damage, heh. The two on the left side would have been out of range, but since they only got 2-3 generators and barely 20% off the cube that killed them, at worst I did 50%. Total time was 18 min, and somebody got close enough to Donatra for her to cloak once (wasted like 6 of my Hyper-Plasma balls too, had 3 HY3 and 3 normals right about to hit her).
So before you march on your character assassination, think a little if you have a clue who this person is or what he does.
We don't know you, we only have your posts in this topic to find out who you are. If you didn't want to be thought of as an arrogant jerk, you shouldn't have written like one in the original post.
Hey, inevitably the OP shouldn't have come to a forum to gloat about leaving a bunch of folks on their own... not smart given the amount of hate being lavished on AFK's (or whatever they are being called presently) these days.
There are those who play for the gratification of a certain win whilst others are, as the OP put it, sado's like the majority of us folks who actually thrive on challenge and changing the odds in our favor.
No win scenario my a$$! Even in defeat there is something to be learned, even if it is only sportsmanship.
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." - Rocky Balboa (2006)
Hey, inevitably the OP shouldn't have come to a forum to gloat
My problem is that it put me in a game in progress in the first place, and one that was missing players at that. That shouldn't happen, whether I was there to test or not, to anyone. And that's about it.
It wasn't to gloat. There was nothing to gloat about. I'm sure those two players weren't any more happy than I were over that predicament.
Except that maybe your blues XIs and aegis beat my whites IXs.
As said, I had two players who, from a quick glance, were no good (tac cruiser, who was dead as I joined, and a sci).
And my ship was just a cheap tank with barely 100 damage per shot.
To clean the spheres and the inevitable repeated trials it would've taken to just get a decent attempt would've cost well over the hour of the penalty. There was no sense to stay other than to abuse myself.
Also, someone has carried you on their backs. Perhaps the remaining two or one of them. You THINK they did as much damage as you, but that was probably a very long time ago and you never actually KNEW what their damage was. You were, afterall, a novice and clueless.
So keep pugging and have fun with that. I'll only pug to test new ships and private to do actual STFs.
When you're willing to die in real life for your beliefs or die to protect others that you don't even know you're welcomed to be my judge.
I really have nothing more to say.

Wait... you queued for a PUG ISE to Test a new ship, then left because the optional was gone?
That's illogical captain, you could have test your build in a loosing STF it won't make a difference, you only queued to test your new ship.
If people didn't leave STF when things don't go their way, you wouldn't spawn in a loosing STF.
Win or lose, you stick with the team, or suffer the leaver penalty.
+ 1 on this. Why bother playing PUG at all if this is the way people approach it?
No, that's a bad game.
You go to test a new ship which you ADMIT is undergeared for an Elite level STF, get there, realize that the optional is failed and then refuse to help the guys who could have used your so-called "expertise" to at least pass the mission?
Well, I know who I'm not queing with.
I'm sure they also took one look at your undergeared Captain McWeaksauce and weren't sad to see go.

bailing, and the attitude behind it, drags stf play down.
i'd understand if they went afk at the start but in this situation it was better to stay and school the n00bs.
remind them of the stf guides here on the forums in the future.

I didn't ask to be President of the Balloon Enterprises! The Balloon Enterprises demanded it!

In the world of MMO (many I have played) this is actually COMMON!
I personally would have stayed (especially if I was testing a new ship and loadout) It is a "perfect scenario" because you can see playing with "noobcakes" with your test ship can save them and win the game or not.
At least you wouldn't get locked out.
Please review my campaign and I'll return the favor.
But if I was testing my ship I would have stayed its the best way to test a ship....no win senario Kirk would have stayed.
Well. It is interesting to see some players who are "elitist" and whine about other "noobs" not being at their level. personally a "true elitist" would have stayed and show the "noobcakes" it can be done with a "TEST SHIP build" and then brag about it
Please review my campaign and I'll return the favor.
Especially if I am in my escort.. Boom goes the dynamite.
The people that are there usually appreciate it and take direction if done the right way. Assuming they speak the same language
And THAT alone always makes the stay worthwhile.
Good so far?
The Ambassador is the ship I tested and it is barely out a week. Some past...

Please review my campaign and I'll return the favor.
Please review my campaign and I'll return the favor.
Yes and that is why he makes me sick with they way he handled everything. If he had just quit and then complained about being put in a mission that already had a failed optional their would be no problem.
What I find funny is he failed to even test the ship in a perfect test scenario.
</elitist>
I'm good enough. I have walked many miles in thorny shoes. Have you? If so, then you know.
