I love the look of the ambasador class ship. I personally never liked the look of the galaxy class ship. (the neck looked like a cobra head ready to strike) I personally like that the ship is an in between ship showing Star Fleet's design progression

I like the hull and most of the stats of the refit of the ship, I'll have to play around with it to see if I like the Boff layout. All the still pics and vid I've seen so far look great though. Great Job DEVS!

I'm not enthused. Sure, I'm happy to get a new ship to play with, but this one is not going to hold my attention. I'm far more likely to hop in my Ody if I want a Sci-Cruiser.

I'm happy we have the last remaining Enterprise in game, tho, and she will be a fine ship for somebody wanting a sci focused cruiser without access to the Ody.

    A collectors thing.

I will be very surprised if the c-store bundle attracts me but I'm all about stats so who knows. I will just need to close my eyes while flying it. :P

I'm amazing at the number of collectors there are. They actually keep their ships and buy ship slots until they have them all. It's all just data to me. It's not even like we have a shipyard to go view the entire collection. That could be enough to get me interested but now committed.

Sending all of our ships on assignments and calling them in as re-inforcements. That would get me committed to collecting ships and buying even more.

    Take the hint Cryptic

The Ambassador was the last ship that really said 'Trek' to me; I just can't get behind all the ellipses and arrow heads of more modern designs. They always seem like they are trying too hard.

In my opinion it is an ugly ship, I'll have to see if it's worth a ship slot first before I decide to get it.

Its uglier than both the Galaxy and Excelsior, its an old design and looked like a crude version of the Galaxy..

Morever, dev blogs mentioned temporal tampering by Tholians.. so its not a new ship with new systems like the NX replica. Its an actual mid 24th century ship, hence its worse in terms of technology vs Galaxy.

Therefore, I really don't understand why people are so enthusiastic about this ship. Apart from what the ship represents (The last of the mighty "Enterprise" to feature in the game and its contributions in the battle of Narendra III), the ship is nothing but a relic.

Maybe the enthusiasm really centers around what the ship "represents" rather than the actual ship which people would use to replace their Oddy, Regents, Fleet ships, etc.

Simple answer... You are not the same gamer as me, same trek fan as me, you are not a clone of me. You are not the base line of thought and belief that we should all be measured on. I am not the base line! I like Jamaican music and hate country! That does not mean people who love country are crazy lol

All I can say is why I like it..
Loved it since seeing it come threw the rift. A mix of A and D Not so much b in my view. I love the look! Will I fly it?? Yes for fun:) It wont be my STF ship but it will be fun to fly.

I like the ship but Cryptics designers seem to have a terrible sense of humor when it comes to BOFF layouts. I absolutely hate the Ambassadors and the Galaxy Classes BOFF layout. They're way too passive and can't deliver a big enough punch, without sacrificing their defense in a fatal way.
(With TacTeam only ONE free tac slot.)

They have the least overall tac BOFF slots of all cruisers in the game, even the Star Cruiser has a Mirror variant with more Tac BOFF stations. I really hate what Cryptic made of these both ships. I wish someone else would take charge and remake those two ship for a start.
Giving those two ships such a lame BOFF & Console layout is almost an insult for a fan.
(While the Excelsior, Galor or even the Ferengi(!) D'Kora are way better ships, btw... Am i the only one seeing the wired irony there?)

That's the reason why i am really pi**ed about Cryptics from time to time.

The thing I was more anxious to see was whether or not we would get the Ambassador bridge as seen in 'Yesterdays Enterprise'

The Ambassador Class has always been one of my favourite designs, second to the Excelsior and I for one look forward to giving the old girl a spin. It'll make a nice change to my usual Defiant-R and Tholian Orb Weaver

The Ambassador has an Lt. Tactical and an Ensign Tactical, which means she's got the same amount of Tac slots (BO and Console) as the standard Assault cruiser.
Did you actually look at the specs before you started complaining?

Yes and i have must have misread it somehow.

    EDIT:
So the Ambassador has more Science and Tac BOFF slots than the Galaxy Class, at the cost of one Enginering power.
Meaning more offense (tac) and more versatility (science) for the ambassador compared to the galaxy class, the devs really are experts when it comes to star trek ships....

Don't see why not since most of the Bridge Sets were redressed canonical sets. The Prometheus was a redress of the Excelsior Bridge set, the Enterprise-C was a redress of the TNG Battle Bridge (which in turn was what was left of the TMP Bridge Set).

    NOPE.

Erika Hernandez, Captain of the NX-02 Columbia.

I don't mind about the timeline, i mean in the shows. It's the first female captain since TNG was on the screens in the 90's while Enterprise is much more recent.

It's a free ship so novelty and nostalgia will win out for a time. I don't much care for the design myself it looks unnecessarily bulky, I would have preferred Proberts design which is much more streamlined, but this is what appeared on TV so that's it.
What I would really like to see is some Odyssey variants with different engine and hull layouts etc. like an Oddy version of the Nebula and Dreadnought classes.
Odysseys used to be the biggest ships in the game but have been outsized by the Jem capships, so I think both the Federation and the Klingons are due for a super cap class ship.
Frankly all I will be getting from this event is the missions, a change of pace from the Romuborg grind, the ship will just be a bonus
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.

To each his own, eh. I've never liked the modern art disaster known as the Galaxy Class design ever since I first saw it on a TV screen back in 1987. Had the TNG producers gone with the Ambassador Class as the TNG series hero ship, I might have liked the show more.

(And the Ambassador Class was known - if not shown until the TNG third season episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" - as in the first season episode 'Conspiracy' - Worf mentions on screen that one of the other ships in orbit is an Ambassador Class Heavy Cruiser, the 'Horatio'.)

    LOL!!! Good one. :)

People focus too much on STO's metagame or their own opinions of the ship, without realizing that just because a BOff layout is bad in-game doesn't mean they hate it or they want it to be useless. It just means it fills a niche that the game mechanics render useless.

The Gal-R would be a fine ship, for example, if Eng powers were better balanced and spread out.

Because it's free and the model seems like an excellent recreation of the canon design.

Although I am more excited about the new party popper.

    Ooooh! Party popper!

Why am I still wasting time on the forums?

    Oh yeah, I still haven't re-watched Yesterday's Enterprise... I better get cracking!

Edit: Make an Eng power that starts at ens level that forces an NPC to target you for 3-5 seconds and all the problems with the Gal-R vanish. You job is then to play as normal, and save the 'scorts by taunting off of them for the time it takes for some heals to land... So simple...

Edit2: And then once the mechanic is in place, Boss level NPC's should get some high damage attacks with a visual indicator previous to lauching that a good "tank" can taunt when they see its going to go off... Then we no longer need 1-shot plasma torps and such. Make it so it would wreck a 'scort or a sci but would leave a cruiser alive. The huge and slow moving 1-shots aren't that big a deal really, like from Unimatrixes, but the small, fast moving ones from tac cubes are just asinine.

The only real difference between the Ambassador BOFF layout and say the Galaxy-X this.

Ambassador: Lt. Commander Sci, Lt. Eng
Galaxy-X: Lt. Commander Eng, Lt. Sci

Otherwise there's not much of a difference. The Ambassador has less crew, and turns a little faster with a slightly larger hull, whereas the Galaxy-X has more crew.

Let that sink in a little.... :)

[Authors note: I really have been attempting to quote posts for clarity, but the system is either beyond me or broken]

That is an interesting comparison to the Gal-X. As a Gal-X fan this shows a little more aplication to the Ambassador, I didn't look at things like that.

Of course, I lose my cloak and lance and my 1 DHC I load (Acutally a quad... yes.. I know... but on a gal-x the Quad is *SOOOOO* pretty!)

But... a little extra turn and a GW might well make up for that.

Maybe the Ambassador isn't quite as fluffy as I originally thought.

Still, IMO, the KDF version kicks its tail up and down the street. I find that to be the case with all KDF ships tho. It silll isn't enough to make up for the lack of (endgame) content. I could be arsed about the leveling conent myself, but it is really sad that they don't just copypasta some of the endgame fed events to KDF. It's just wrong.

Edit: Lol, I forgot about the opening to Yesterday's Enterprise! A lot of you men out there need to take Guinen's advice on women =P

Edit2: Ok, time for me to log in, wish me luck

i dont like it either. never has. it hasnt got the massiv but still elegant lines of the galaxy, and none of the sleekness of the excelsior. its just a bulgy fat kitbashed something. and its not really needed in game as there are enough cruisers that do the same thing already.

still, many fans really like it and the mission to get it is very nice done. and its free! so dont complain :)
