Colonists? what do I do with them?

They are weighing my ship down and putting pressure on the waste disposal system. and they have a kind of funny musty smell.

Is there something I should be doing with them?
Have to drop them off somewhere?
Better yet is there a slave trader somewhere I can sell them too???

    Occassionally, you find DOFF missions to resettle them, I find them all the time around DS9.

    Oh and there IS a slavetrader, but only for KDF ;-)

    Give them a hug and sendt them off to some desolate planet and tell them to start a new colony.
    Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
    Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

    Colony Chains

    If you wander around to the Nebulas ect like Delta Volianus you will find a 7 part chain - the first part is 1 hour long and needs 2 Astrometric Probes, further missions involve dumping of Colonists.

    At the end of the chain you get a Blue Doff only available there and a repeatable assignment to get a Purple Doff

    There are 14 locations in total off the main sector blocks

    Orions don't particularly like KDF colonists, who tend to have the fail traits but not the crit or success traits... they prefer Prisoners.

    The colonists are best used in the basic Relocate/Deport missions or as part of the nebula/cluster colonization chains. The former gives you 100 dil per colonist, the latter unlocks a repeatable mission that can get you Very Rare doffs.

    The Relocate Colonists mission can also appear by talking to your Operations Officer (Doff) from the Doff interface, or on your ship interior.

    that sounds more like it, I think they will be happier now they aren't going to get jettisoned out with the waste so my energy weapons officer could use their icy cold corpses as target practice.

    There's actually at least 5 assignments on Federation side that takes colonists, which reward up to 500 dilithium per assignment.

    There's the Relocate Colonists assignment that can show up pretty much anywhere.
    Then the others are all found in star clusters, my favorite being the Transport (Additional) Settlers which takes 5 colonists, has low failure chance and is fairly easy to get up to a 20% crit chance, rewards 500 dilithium on a non-crit, and only takes 30 minutes.

    Other assignments that use them include Establish (Additional) Forward Base, Establish (Additional) First-In Colony, and another one that takes 4 colonists, rewards 500 dilithium, but has a much higher fail chance that I can't remember the name of right now.

    There's also the Embassy Reputation project that requires Civilians, and some Starbase Upgrade projects that will accept them as well.
