My favorite ship is the: CMA CGM Marco Polo. It's the largest container ship in the world.
I like container ships, because they are useful and because I'm currently studying in the transport sector.
Fireboats* because of the ingenuity, hard to reach places and naval fires can be fought with them,
Lightships, Back in the day if a lighthouse didn't cut it, a lightship could
Tugs, ..at the risk of quoting one of my favoured kids tv shows ^^', hell quoting time!
"The tug boat, for its size, is the most powerful craft afloat"
The necessity and importance of them in ports was astonishing

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

'...I can tell you that we're not in the military and that we intend no harm to the whales.' Kirk: The Voyage Home
'Starfleet is not a military organisation. Its purpose is exploration.' Picard: Peak Performance
'This is clearly a military operation. Is that what we are now? Because I thought we were explorers!' Scotty: Into Darkness
'...The Federation. Starfleet. We're not a military agency.' Scotty: Beyond
'I'm not a soldier anymore. I'm an engineer.' Miles O'Brien: Empok Nor
'...Starfleet could use you... It's a peacekeeping and humanitarian armada...' Admiral Pike: Star Trek
Although I really want to say HMS Victory, based on her illustrious history and condition (she's absolutely beautiful, if you ever happen to be near Portsmouth, be sure to check her out!), her sailing days are over... as a national treasure, she's too precious to risk putting in the water again.
On the other hand... HMS Surprise (formerly HMS Rose and "HMS Surprose" to her longtime fans) in San Diego is a gorgeous replica of an 18th century frigate, and still sails periodically with volunteer crews. Tall-ship fans have seen her in the films Master and Commander and/or Pirates of the Caribbean III.
And *of course* I can't mention tall-ships or Star-Trek without name-checking Lady Washington! Trekkies/ers should know her as USS Enterprise from Generations. She sails regularly, and if you live on the west-coast USA, you can catch a charter or volunteer to sail her yourself! Seriously, take a 2-week vacation and hop aboard, the experience is amazing.
That is actually not a ship. The truth is so much more awesome! That is called an Ekranoplans, which uses something called ground effect to fly very close to, well, the ground. This makes it more of an airplane/hovercraft hybrid. Ekranoplans are often portrayed near oceans or lakes due to large bodies of water being safer than the ground, but they can travel across land.
Sorry about that, I so rarely get to geek out about this kind of stuff.
As for my favorite ship, the Olympic which was a kick *** ship, and namer of it's class. Which is sad, cause everyone only remembers the lame one.
