the problem i have with that is that you can drop a bunch, they evidently cloak themselves, aoe counters like faw and scatter volley powers suck my butt right now because of everyone's uber shield kirksauce hax....
and the simple fact that this huge burst number can me obtained through zero piloting competency and minimum build adjustments.
only counters that dont require 'seeing them' to thwart them,
Eject warp plasma, TRIBBLE the green stuff out while it tails you (theta to slow it)
Aecton assimilator, speaks for itself
scramble sensors/ams, apparently this makes the mines turn against its user >: D
and if you are in a carrier/flight deck 'intercept mode' not as must concentrated dps, but targets anything small
oddly i've been able to tank the odd 4mine explosions, but must have been luck
(not a real pvper)
[Combat (Self)] Your Bite deals 2378 (1475) Physical Damage(Critical) to Spawnmother.
oh man, i tank my fare share of them too. but with so many lurking around in the matches where you find these guys....well...
even with omegas and deltas and polarize hull and subspace field modulator rotating on a darn good cycle, i still get popped every other day by random tric mine floating in space to be forgotten about.
that being said, the smaller hits just give me an opportunity to hit go down fighting a little early...:)
Yeah, tric mines are lol right now. But given how many ****ing zombies are going to be running with the Omega T4 shield passive, it may not be a bad counterbalance to that ****.
Why, when, and did they actually remove the damage these do to the user? I understand why they turned off friendly fire but for a while trics killed you too. Maybe they are still supposed to but I fly my Brel right through them when I'm griefing the Romulans.
Maybe turn that back on.

May not actually be "way" cooler or even "slightly" cooler.
Funky Monkey deals 79476 (102363) Kinetic Damage(Critical) to you with Mine Explosion.
tric mines that is all FIX THEM
You were hit by one lucky mine. Seriously I don't understand why people cry for nerfs when it comes to tricobalts, most of them NEVER hit a target in PvP (thanks to all the AoE and pet spam) and all those people who are using them and awaiting a big explosion effectively waste their rear weapon slots.
He might have decloaked in the wrong place at the wrong time. Oops, just saw the pic. Nvm. Yeah, sounds like a lucky crit. Typically, if I'm being CC'd and FAW is down, I can usually still tank em pretty easily. Just gotta keep shields up and pop PH or BFI.
He was a tac in a cruiser and would come up tractor ams and drop that thing on you and you would die. It is redic no ship can take over 100k damage... between this the shield TRIBBLE power-drain being obnoxious it is a **** all out there.
Stuff like this is why the Q's are empty and the only good fights are premade with the rules in place. Just think if you were new to the Q's you go in and are doing ok then boom 120000 damage hits you! Ok wtf then go in again boom another for **** sakes TRIBBLE this warp out and afk it to get dill.
Normal mines do 2k damage if that through shields trics 100k huge difference.
It wan not one lucky mine that was the 3erd on me and the 5th on the other guy in there
Guess if you want to fight you have to be in a cruiser with ewp and faw to fight these things. Kdf just keep spamming your assimulators only thing that really works against them.
I spent a respec to defend against these with hull resistance and what do I get one shot still. Bit over 45 resistance and I am sure I had either delta or omega up when it hit cause I always have one or the other up. But it seams most of you are ok with them so shall I put them on my ship? I am quite good at being a noob tric spammer! I know the kdf don't care they have the assimulator.
i suppose one thing they could alter to tric mines (as a START) would be to remove it's mask energy ability that much energy packed into a small container, doesnt sit right in my mind.
(plus tricobalt mobile devices are innately targatable and dont require rejigging your settings to seem them so mines should be too?)
But yeah, the recoil sounds like it should certainly be in there, i loved using my defiant with a rear mounted tricobalt torp, flying near nanite gens with torp spread 3, at the right angle you shoot out 4tric devices, do massive damage to the generator in question, and the recoil damage was HILARIOUS!, on occasion i even managed to blow myself up whilst cracking myself up laughing about it

see, and this is how you have fun!
good attitude man, i used to do that back in the day....tric torp out the back, they seemed to just get eaten up faw back then though.
Consoled out, you can get a HYTIII Tric to crit for about 90k. On a generator or sphere, it's not that hard but very situational in pvp. Still fun though when it does pop.
I cant remember last i hit with a tric mine as they are easy to avoid. For goodness sake remember to highlight mines and develope some situational awarness. If you see any tric mines, evasive away, BFI, FAW, CSV and PSW will work wonders.

you can normally get around the FAW with pointblank fire , still works now and again but VERY dependant on which way you and your target are flying and what enemies the torp spread chooses to aim on

It's getting to the point where about half of the ships I see in the queues or in private games are tric bombers, and another half of those have absolutely nothing else on their ship (i.e. they're dedicated solely to tric bombing).
These ships have zero team value and tend to chew through heals like no one's business. Many are incapable of supporting themselves and melt like butter without a dedicated team healer.
There's one player in the queues, I won't name names, who is using a known exploit involving the timeship CD/"freezing" power and DPB3: your ship is completely suppressed, all your powers are put on cooldown, and as long as the DPB3 was laid a second or two prior, you're finished.
If people are going to keep making excuses for their silly gimmick builds and borderline-exploits, that's fine, we can let the game plummet as far down as you like. Ultimately it isn't me who suffers, like Rand says it's the new players I feel bad for. I've had some talented players on my pug teams who I can bet were scared away for good by the fleet-handled morons taking tric bombing teams into the queues.
As I said, doesn't bother me though, 95% of these bombers don't care in the slightest about improving their ship or their skill, so they go down faster than a bungee cord (and I'm just in an escort, not even in my Excel). The few who build selfishly enough to survive (double RSP, FPB2, the works), no biggie, I'll call a friend to bring a nuke and we'll make sure you're permanently staring at the respawn button.
im not really complaining about them so much, as admitting they are a little silly.
as a 2 year pvp veteran in this game i have more than 1 trick up my sleeve to deal with this kind of thing....but as shimmer said....its gotta rain down on the new players....
kinda how i came up as an escort pilot through faw 2 point whatever. hella not fun.
actually, lets dig into horizon's bag of piloting maneuvers for this one...
(and i don't share many of them with most people, for various reasons)
but in this case...i'll pull up the sleeves for a second...
things you need:
a crit heavy escort
a full alpha
aux2damp
evasives
engine battery
the moves:
watch the zombie tric bomber, play defensive a little bit... catch his tac team and rsp cycle...(does he have 1? 2? ect ect...) when the opportunity presents itself for a window of kill....
from his 6, engine battery aux 2 damp, while coming to the fore of his vessel, run alpha sequence, 180 around to reverse...staring him head on, about this time aux2damp and engine battery are nearing cooldown, pop evasives. lay down the lead along with fomm.
and politely escort that zombie to respawn. repeat as necessary. once he figures out how fun it is watching the respawn counter tic down, he might rethink his build. send him a friendly message in zone chat that you targeted him for specific reasons.

YES! This happened to me this morning! Quite a well known guy! Problem was not only was I stuck still unable to do anything, he had 2 science pugs on his team that were scrambling the **** out of everyone as well. I sat there, and sat there. And after about 30-40 seconds i just had to sigh. It's idiotic.

The torps are bit derp in general at the minute, they take up a fore slot (usually), they do marginally less damage than the mines, they're slow as balls and they don't get the innate MES.
They wouldn't be so bad if they were like the torpedoes. The people that use the torps actually have to time them and get your shield facing down to kill you with them because they don't do 100K+4 damage through your shields. And the torps are shot-able.
And while you are amsed you cant even see them. Me I just say another name to add to the no skill noob list but to a new player they quit pvp.
I am in a few pve fleets to and I try to get them into pvp but they hate it cause TRIBBLE like this. it seams every time they go to pvp its ams gravpuls tricmine repeat there is no defense unless you are kdf with a assimulator.
All they are good for is to run new pvpers back to their pve...
FAW is no good against players at the moment, that's true, but it doesn't seem to ever miss mines as they, IME, don't have defense value. CSV can work, though if you're in an Escort anything other than CSV 1 probably has too high an opportunity cost to slot.
Tyken's Rift, Aceton Assimilator, Gravity Well, Eject Warp Plasma, Photonic Shock Wave, and Tractor Beam Repulsors all clear mines through their innate MES.
A Science Ship with the Jem'hadar Deflector and Aux power at 125 can see through a mine's MES at 6 km, and that's without Captain ranks or Consoles buffing Sensors. For the record Photon Mines only start homing at 3 km, all others 2 km.
Mine clearing is part of the role a Science Ship can, and probably should, fill. If you aren't running with a Science Ship you should be prepared to take steps to deal with mines yourself when heading into the ques.
That said, the Manheim Device+Tippler Cylinder+Tric Spread trick needs to be broken/made to not work the way it currently works. If the Dev's don't have a solid escape planned to be patched in for ships caught in it, it probably ought to create a zone that eliminates friendly mines and heavy torpedoes as a way of preventing the swoop/pause/nearly-guaranteed-instakill combo.
If you feel Keel'el's effect is well designed, please, for your own safety, be very careful around shallow pools of water.

Still your "fix" for them is ship speck/builds and require you to fly a specific ship with a specific cpt and once amsed you cant do anything about them. i have mines on my escort to fight them but even still they miss them and also ams once again or even scramble they will get you.
The "fix" for them is to incorporate a teammate who can deny enemy mines all the live long day or adjust your ship to deal with them. That's pretty much how team vs works. Indeed, you should be including at least a little spam control into your ship anytime you're out even *if* you have a dedicated spam clearer just because that person can be shutdown and made unable to keep up in their role.
The game provides you the tools necessary to deal with mines, if you want to keep crying about them, that's you're prerogative, but don't think for a second their counters don't exist.
If you feel Keel'el's effect is well designed, please, for your own safety, be very careful around shallow pools of water.

anywho,
yeah. trics hit, they hit hard.
are you sure he didnt, drop your defenses at the last second? i've done that plenty on my sci wells (no aoe freeze because i never got the escort).
also, doesnt shockwave counter them wihtout seeing them?
maybe people need to get the auto defense battery? (the close range plasma console that auto fires a shot every few seconds at the closest thing)
its quite handy.

Pew-pew is still king in PvP.
There is a discrepancy between mines and torps. Get caught in your own tric torp explosion? Heck, be too near to your THY Plasma? Mines though?
There should be consistency...
