After running the race on 3 characters - failing it 2x - I can say there is NO WAY I am going to run that race 25 times on my 6 main toons - 3 KDF 3 FED
150 times doing that race - I think I would blow my head off:P
Sure by the 6th time I had done it I was used to it - more or less - it still is a bugger to keep ahead of the creature you are racing against.
I really hope as I asked before they could lower it to 20 times - not because of the multiple character issue - just that this time of year is so busy and players should not have to feel like they have to give up on family or friends just to complete the 25 times out of 35.
I just think a small adjustment would make people feel better toward Cryptic than they have given the recent changes(all good so far) Less stress this season is better for everyone and I am sure Cryptic does not want any of it directed their way.
Well, they will say that there is an alternative in place if you miss a day and that is to use lobi to purchase the autographs. With the rubberbanding i was experiencing, i do not plan to do this for any of my characters. The ship isnt really something I am interested in.
I may be totally wrong here, but more people don't have alts, than do. I have 4 Characters in total (2fed,2kling) But i'm only going to get the ship on one of them. That's a mostly personal choice and besides, surely you don't want every character to fly the same ship right? That's the main reason i'm only doing it for one. Although, each to their own i suppose.
I wouldn't mind a reduction, I'm going to be out of town enough that this will be dificult (out of town for work even, sucks).
But the race itself is easy unless they changed it from last time. Jump at every corner and you won't skid when you turn, I think that was the trick, going to have to try it again tomorrow.
I did it last year without too much problem, though it is about 15 minutes per day for six.
If you are having problems running the race, you are doing it wrong. It is very easy.
One trick you might try is jumping. If you do it correctly, it will stop you from sliding. Also, you can cut across the track a little without going off course.
If you run the race a dozen times, you should get the hang of it.
I don't know if I am going to bother getting the ship on all seven toons, since I probably will not even use it, but it is not that hard if you want to run the race every day.

The reason I suggested a reduction is totally just to help out people who would like to commit more time to family/friends/shopping - etc - but feel extra pressure to get this done in 25 out of 35 days.
accourding to every study done this is the MOST stressful time of year - the economy also adding to this. I just think that Cryptic would be wise to take some of that stress to complete this task off the players by making a small reduction.
Its a Good Will thing - that's all.
Making an Adjustment and telling people that they are doing it to reduce people stress/workload at this busy time of year can only have a positive effect on Cryptic's image with the players and really It would benifit them more than it would cost.
Why sadly? I have 11 characters and only three of them will do the race to get the Breen ship. There's no way in hell it'll get my main out of his Aventine, my time-displaced TOS captain out of her D'kyr etc. Every character can only fly one ship so only those where it would fit will get it.

Last year, I only failed it the first time I ran it because I tried sprinting the whole way. I slid off the track. If you sprint on the straight sections and jog around the curves, you shouldn't have a problem winning.
I have ten characters, but I don't expect to do it 25 times with more than three. I'm not even sure I have a use for the ship yet... A science-oriented escort doesn't really fit any of my characters well.
I was thinking the same thing as the OP this morning after failing my first 3 tries. With 7 toons it just seemed unattainable. However once you get the hang of it, knowing when to sprint, when to only jog, when to use the drifting, and using the Hero Roll to rapidly change direction in the corners, its actually pretty easy. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be alright.

Yeah i got the hang of it - but still I can't see doing it 150 times for 6 toons. Its just a ship collection thing.
No ship is really needed - heck to show how bad I am I got 6 more C-store ships during the sale and have only put 3 into the field! Of course 3 were just for the consoles, but still. I bought the MVAM and have not used it yet. 16 C-store ships. I still plan to get Fleet Excel - have fleet Defiant, Fleet Nebula - would love a Fleet B'rel but will never be able to get that at Tier 5 - should be at tier 3 - there will be few KDF fleets that make it to tier 5.
Still would like to have the Breen ship just in case. The real point was what I got on about in my last thread - that reducing this to 20 times would be the best thing cryptic could do to add to this great promo - more good will at this time of year is better than less.
Even at 20 I still would not do it on more that 3 toons - maybe 4 tops but I can see getting sick of it real fast.

Well, it's actually a Cruiser-hybrid of all three types of ship. It's got 4 weapon slots on both fore and aft, with a Commander tactical station and a Lt. Com science, but with 3 device slots and a middling turn rate like a Science ship...
Kind of a unique set-up. It might be interesting to play with it, except that the Breen aesthetics turn me right off.

Okay, good point. It's more of a hybrid. One or two of my characters might have a use for that.
This race is easy. For me anyway since I was a hardcore Mariokart racer back in my younger days...
You can sprint through the whole track. Face where you need to turn and use forward roll to stop sliding. You'll pause for like a second, but just continue sprinting. Repeat at every sharp turn.
Believe me, unless you're walking, the NPC you need to beat will never catch up to you. It takes a little practice, but once you nail it, this race is child's play.
Rolls, Jumps, powerslides, the non slippery snow covered corners, You can go over a couple of the hillsides without DQing, and the fact that your opponent never goes faster than a trot pace all combine to make this a really ... REALLY easy race.
"Yeah i got the hang of it - but still I can't see doing it 150 times for 6 toons. Its just a ship collection thing."
So, it's a personal choice. I don't forsee doing this with all toons, either, but I think the set up that they came up with... Event runs 35 days , log in sometime for 5 minutes during 25 of them, get the ship. Have a little more time? Throw some snowballs and fight the snowmen for some cool collectibles to buy the awesome stuff in the store. Snowman fight happens every half an hour. It all seems very fair, and the event itself (including the race) is all VERY fun.
Returning player here. Luckily, some would argue stupidly, I deleted all my characters before I departed STO and will only have to get the ship once. I had completely forgotten about STO until I got an e-mail about it. So, I am back to check it out and possibly stick around.

I might give it a go because I do have a KDF who is more than a contraband farmer and he'd look pretty cool at the head of one. But my Fed main already has a small collection of ships I never fly.
The race is pretty easy. You just need to run, turn your toon before a turn so he slides into it, cut corners and catch a bit of snow so your not always sliding on the ice. Just stay between the flags. Got 3 toons and I won 3 times and I even overtook the player in front of me twice. Same track has last year. Practice makes perfect!

Yes it does get easier - in total I have done it 9 times now. Running against the Breen man is easy but the 4 legged animals are faster(as they are in real life). Eight legs for the spider I think.
The guy is way back but the aminals are right on my heals.
Here's an idea! Increase the number of photos we get on the last week. Toss in a patch and up the amount to 80. That way it gives some breathing room to those that are struggling. But those that had no trouble won't notice because they'll have their ship already.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Just my 2 cents.
Anyone else feel the same?
I had to try it, I just did, more out of curiousity. I ran the race for the ship articles on all my toons on my main account, and only 1 toon on my sec account (I ran out of gas by then). - Lucky the wife was away all day at my inlaws.
I have 41 toons on my Main and 9 toons on my sec account = 50 Toons
I ran the race with 42 in total.
Started at 2pm and finished at 7:05pm - total of 5hrs
No freakin way will I ever do this again, and wanted to gauge my eyes out after running the thing for the first 1hr and a 1/2.
I pretty much have the race pattern down pack - Trust me anyone who know me on these forums, I had my issues with trying to obtain the Red Gift Boxes, meaning I ran the races every day since it started until it finished in an attempt to get the BUG ship.
The race is made slightly difficult during the Giant Snow Man event, players tend to grief by pulling the snowmen minions into the race track, that and the fact that they also appear on the track.

That's mental - if you tried that every day for a week - I am sure suicide would follow!

Approx 35 races over 35 days. I only got 1 auto for 1 race. WTF!
35 x1 35... and you need a thousand of the things! Woooot!
Impossible!
So im not bothering. i'll get the boffs from the reruns, the wonderland. what a waste.

I'm not interested in a new ship skin. The bridge configuration isn't something I'm too keen on either.
Do they have screen shots of the Breen bridge?
Not that I know of, but I mean more like the Boff configuration.
