Ok, just tried this myself, and... um, my opponent sprinted the entire way, I couldn't catch them. But I know there are different opponents, I will try again.
Everyone who is saying that the NPC racer only trots... you didn't get mine! I had a little wolf-thing, and that little you-know-what ran as fast as he could. I had no hope of catching him, even when I went way off course.
Just tired again and again... the little ice spider sprinted, the breen sprinted... I can do a fraps recording if you don't believe me.
So in the snow man fight. Does the better you do get you better rewards at the end?
Also do the holiday doff assignments give holiday rewards? I've got alot of stuff to build and the Fleet mission is also going to drain our holiday goodies.

Seems that way. In one instance I didn't get many kills and only got a handful. In another I practically wiped out all of them and got a ton of items.
There's a big snowman army up in the north east. A few people with the avalanche snowball launcher can make quick work of them for an easy 30-50+ kills.
I am having problems buying some items from the Holiday Item Vendor. Specifically I cannot buy either snowball gun, I have every required input for the purchase (and it shows that I do). I select the item, hit the Buy button and then hit the Ok button when it wants me to confirm I want to buy 'Avalanche' or 'Flurry'.
I was able to purchase the 'Frosted Boots' earlier and this was after I had first failed to purchase either snowball gun (this was a secondary item on my list). Thus I doubt it's a PEBKAC error....
Am I just unlucky or am I missing something obvious?
For those having problems winning "The Fastest Race On Ice"... the solution is simple... Double Tap your forward key to roll at sharp turns. Then hit "Shift" immediately to start sprinting again... Rinse and repeat at every sharp turn... Easy as that!
Completing = winning. You need to beat the NPC, but you can try again until you beat it. Once you get the hang of the track, you'll end up beating the NPC each time by a longshot (tip: jump or roll to stop yourself from sliding). The PvP race has separate rewards for placing and participating.
Well I guess this is another thing I will not be getting . I understand there needs to be complexity since the players are getting a ship, however, O Flakey One, you were unclear about the actual rules and that the mobs the players are running against do not side or slip or have any issues on the ice.
To most people completing is just that completing something whether you win or not.
Way to go to hold a carrot just out of reach of your players.
I knew there was going to be something that ruins this Christmas for me, happens every year, this time you Cryptic are the Grinch that ruined it.

Thanks a bunch.
Do you have a disability or injury to your hands that prevents you from manipulating the controls of the game?
Because if not, you're severely overestimating the difficulty of the NPC you race against. I can almost guarantee that within five runs, you'll know the track and tricks well enough to never lose to the NPC again.
the race ain't hard, you must be doing something wrong.
9 toons here ,straight in and all 9 won.
Not sayin i'm the best thing since beer was invented but it was so easy,in some places i could even take my time and walk.

Uh... yeah. I'm terrible at this kind of stuff, and after a few runs even clumsy old me was able to get the hang of it. While the mobs do not slip, they do follow the same path every time, so as long as you find the short cuts, yes, you can beat them by a long shot. And like Brandon said, the "Slip" mechanic is quite easily fooled. My recommendation is too fool around a bit, throw snowballs at people, scope out the track, and just get used to sliding.
Well, if today is any indication, I think I am just going to skip the whole thing. I am terrible at the racing and doubt I will be able to get the breen ship on even one of my characters, let alone all of them.
Can't figure out the snowman fight either. Was fighting snowman just fine, but after the timer ended, nothing. Granted I didn't get many kills (about 40 or so, not the 100), so probably not going to get anything out of this. Probably best for me to just give up now and except it, then try to work through it and just be disappointed.
This is the catch showing right at the Lobi and our Credit Card.

Oh you mean like the last year when it was the same "win the race" but with a bit of forum trolling about how unfair is to get free stuffs or how unfair is to do something .I can understand lazy people in everyday life but how lazy some person has to be to bich about a 2 minute mission in game ?
I love the improved Winter Wonderland - the races, the snowball fights, the event and
the new goodies one can buy But I especially like skating around and doing tricks on
the lake with my Frosted Boots!
I too despaired about the race at first, I'm hopeless at these kinds of things..
Turned out it's actually very easy if you just roll just before a turn,
as it will stop you from sliding off the track

This is my first Winter Wonderland since I started playing the game and I think its great fun, only been playing today and already got a big snowball gun, I'd like to turn it on the Borg Elite's in STF just to see how those Sucker's like a face full of snowball, lol.
I was loosing the race a lot till a friend told me that at each corner I should steer the camera in the direction I wish to go and then double click the forward move button to roll in that direction, still slippy but works for me. I also tried racing as some of the creature's that Q turns people into, fun.
It would be great to see the Snowman Overlord get Assimilated, he would look so cool as a Cyborg Snowman, maybe a Queen, hehehe.
So far I'm enjoying Winter Wonderland immensely:):):):)
meh, I will keep working on the race, but I am thinking I am just going to have to hope we will have a different way of getting the breen ship later on, much like the Jem'Hadar attack ship. I actually didn't start playing until around the 2nd anniversary, so I missed the winter event last year. But fortunately I have since gotten the Jemmie for a couple of my toons. Hopefully the Breen will be the same.
As for the snowball fight, Looks like I am going to have to watch the instances. lol, most of the time there are so many people with the snow guns that I don't get many kills in. But I have managed to get a few holiday items and hopefully with a little luck I can get the guns and fight it out in some of the busier servers.
One question on the guns, are they automatically loaded with snowballs or do you still need to collect snowballs around the wonderland?
You should receive a handful of Winter Epohh Tags for completing the PvP Race, but we're currently tracking some issues with Open Missions (like this race) occasionally cancelling themselves before being completed. We believe it's related to server load, but we're still investigating.
Any progress on this? I have placed in the race a couple of times, but have received nothing. Truth is, this is a lot of fun anyway, but I'm hoping folks will get at least a "consolation" prize for completing the race if we don't win or place.
Nevertheless, thanks for this - kind of a riot. Nice to have a "goof-off" element where you can get something extra just for showing up, ha!

I got a chance to get in and play last night and I had a really good time in the Winter Wonderland. The solo race seems to have changed a little since last year. Could be that I'm out of practice, could be the rubberbanding (I've got internet connection issues lately), but after a couple restarts I was able to finish it a handful of times over as many toons. I'm pretty sure the NPC Racers didn't sprint last year, but they do now. Also those last hairpin turns seem much harder (sharper/more turns?). Anyway, it's good fun, and I appreciate the challenge.
It's too bad so many people complain about the event. Yes, there is some difficulty, but with some effort/practice, it really is doable. This is supposed to be a game, it's supposed require some investment on the player's part to accomplish the act of "winning" and thereby being awarded a prize.
Personally, I'm very happy with the way Cryptic has set up this year's Event. For one thing there really is more of an Event feel to it. I think because there is more than just the single daily race. There are multiple things to do, more than just a the solo race. There's the group race that can be done 4 (?) times an hour as often as you want, there's the awesome snowman fight twice an hour, there's snowpile farming if you want some mind numbing button pressing, there's exploration (accolades), RP fun, ice skating (the new animations are sweet!), creature transformation, snowballing, DOff missions, etc. Not to mention the look of the Wonderland, truely is wonderful!
And if you want to. Purely optionally, you can spend dilithium ("time currency") or real life money, and buy Cryptic products which give you an advance of goodies. You do not have to. Sure, people will spend money (I've already seen a few Breen ships in play!), and I'm certain they're happy to receive it, but Cryptic is a business. It's ok! Let the game make some money. For those who say they pressure you - Think about this - They also make it easier to not spend money - by unlocking the Holiday Collectibles, the Wonderland zone chat is full of buy/sell/trade offers - You can get anything you want for free (some effort, notwithstanding)!
I spent a couple-three hours playing just last night and I've already unlocked a gun, scarf, two of the jackets, a personal holo emitter, and have a holiday epohh baking in the oven - on one toon, and a separate gun and jacket on another toon. Not to mention a day's worth of Q photos for the toons I care to have them. Most importantly, I was having fun doing it all! I've got 34 more days of this prize bonanza. I expect to get everthing I want.
...One question on the guns, are they automatically loaded with snowballs or do you still need to collect snowballs around the wonderland?
They are automatically loaded/remain loaded. If you have one of the guns, snowball farming becomes purely optional.
Snowball Gun Advice: The guns are a great buy if you want to get Holiday Collectibles... Yeah, it's a case of "spend money to make money" - In other words, you'll get more HCs out of the Snowman fight if you invest in one of the guns.
But since the guns are worthless outside of the Winter Wonderland, unless you're a "collector" or have some other reason to "want" multiple guns, I recommend you only buy one gun, even/especially if you have multiple toons - Only get one gun, on one toon, and only play the snowball fight on that one toon to farm HCs for all your alts. Remember you can send the HCs to any toon for their purchasing needs.
Have fun, and Happy Holidays, everyone!

Yes, they are preloaded with snowballs. I recommend the Avalanche... It kills a minion snowman in one or two shots.
