I've realised that sometimes I'm shooting invisible quantum torpedoes.
This might be linked to the invisble Borg torps that other people mention.
I've flying a Mirror Heavy Quin Raptor with 1 quantum torp in the back. Often the outgoing torps seem to explode on the rear of my ship. Generally I'm using the High Yield. Sometimes they both detonate and sometimes just 1. But here's the important bit, though the torpedo has exploded and no longer exists to fly towards the target, I see the damage done to the target appearing in chat window. And both hit from the High Yield appear in the log.
I'm checking the log entries "in real time". I have turned off all combat messages accept for my own, so that I don't miss the damage being done in the clutter of all the other log entries. And I see both High Yield strikes appear, and the damage is being applied to the target.
What I'm not 100% sure of is if the damage is being applied when the graphic shows a hit against my hull, or after the correct flight time to the target. But I have only 1 launcher, and it's on the rear, so I'm sure I'm not seeing a previous firing.
When I first noticed this "pre-detonation" effect, I was 0km away from a Borg transformer, so I though that was the reason. But I've realised that it's happening when I'm 5, 6, 7 km away too. And against all types of enemy / target.
On a side note, I've never been hit by an invisble high-yield plasma torpedo. Sometimes I haven't seen them coming because they have come down from a high angle. Cure is were this seems to happen a lot.
And I've had diffucult seeing a plasma torp spread coming at me. But with all the green "ground clutter" you have on KA, I'm not surprised.
