From Startrek.com

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Star Trek Into Darkness, starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller, arrives on May 17th, 2013.?
Might the Earth of the alternate timeline be the next world to be blown up? Just my wild speculation.

    Uh...

This sounds like the only bigger waste of $20 than buying Z-points.

Oh man, I don't know whether to be cautiously optimistic or groan and despair that they're really going to repeat the mistakes of the previous film. There's nothing about this plot synopsis that sounds even remotely interesting but at the same time, there's no writer's strike to interfere with the film's development - so it should be good, right?

    ...Right???

I'm looking forward to it, I'm not sure if what they meant in that description was that the whole Federation fleet exploded at the same time though :P

At this rate, I wonder what will be left of the Abramsverse by the time the trilogy is over.

Cos I've written about a temporal captain who recounts events from the first movie as part of her past... now I'm starting to doubt she even existing! :P

I don't know, I kind of like that there are real casualties and permanent changes to the universe. The villain they're describing sounds more like Gary Mitchell or Garth of Izar, rather than Khan.

Karl Urban let slip that Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Gary Mitchell in an interview.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

I bet that's just marketing misdirection. Like how a rumour got dropped that Talia would be in The Dark Knight Rises, which was then rubbished by 'official' sources.

I saw the Chess reference, and I immediately thought Garth of Izar, since there were a lot of chess based code words used in teh TOS episode involving him. But we shall see soon enough.

I just had a disturbing vision of the best one liner in Star Trek being ruined by J.J.

Not Willian Shatner actor yells: Khaaaaaaaaaaan!
I ask nothing but that you remember me.

    Nor Garth (also never existed)

see both of those have tie ins to Kirk SENIOR and Abrams blew him up

No, of course I don't think it's Khan. I was just saying that I had a very strange thought of J.J. messing with the best line in Star Trek.

Watch the Harold and Kumar movies. He makes a good Sulu, but, the actor will always be a walking stoner TRIBBLE joke to me.I was waiting for him to look kirk in the eyes after they were beemed to saftey from their fall, and say "Dude, you realize our junk was pressed together." Like the Harold and Kumar escape Guantanimo bay movie.

If this plot blurb is true...

    Well just lol....

the plot sound like something a 12 year old would write... and the all the ships got killed and everyone was very sad...

seriously sounds like Abrams is just taking a Boston Steamer right on the Star Trek IP.

No Denying the quality of the casting, but after the abortion of JJ's first movie, I have no faith in this one being any better...
